View 2 Replies View RelatedI would like to know whether it is safe to defragment my recovery partition? Seeing as it is listing in the Disk Defragmenter, which states that only disks which can be defragmented are shown i am assuming that it is. I recently had to reinstall windows on one of my laptops so checked the disks for fragmentation a fews days later and i noticied that all disks had been defraged apart from C: drive and the recovery partition. I also have a brand new laptop, which is also running Windows 7 x64 and all disks were defraged apart from C: drive again. Having looked at the schedule the date/time had not come up yet so i am assuming that is why, but why would windows choose to defrag one drive but not another? Lastly, i notice Windows chooses to schedule a defrag every Wedneday at 01:00 by default so i assume if my laptop is off it will start the defrag process the next time i turn my system on, correct?

I keep the C drive lean. All files are " moved to " my external hard drive. Meaning, most often I need to plug in my ext.HDD in order to access files.

In explorer I can see it in my network section as well as map a drive to it. However, intermittently, it does not allow me to write or delete files on it. I know computers aren't suppose to do intermittently, but that is what it is.There are brief times when I can add and delete items. I just added one file about 20 minutes ago. For several hours before that, it was locked, and it is now again locked.I can go for days without any issues, and then I get a night like tonight where I can't get anywhere.

I am have 2 256GB SSDs running in raid 1 as my 'C' drive and 2-2TB hard drives are 'D' & 'E'. My system tells me that windows is handling the defragmentation of my drives. What I would like to know is if there is a way to stop the system from defragmenting my SSD 'C' drives, but let the OS defragment my D and E hard drives. Also is there a way to control which drives the system is defragmenting?

I have a generic System 7 64 bit system with a 1 TB SATA drive. It has one hard drive which I have partitioned into 4 partitions, with C: being where I put all the system software. The board has mulitple SATA ports.Change considered: cloning the C: partition onto a new SSD so that I can get the performance boost of an SSD. There are some heat problems with existing hard drive so I probably need to change it out, so I would also like to clone the D:, E:, and F: partitions to a new hard drive.I have cloned a single physical drive to another physical drive, and the software (Ghost, or the like) usually handles it ok, so that all I need to do is adjust some partition sizes, and then disconnect the old hard drive and everyting is good. This includes cloning a single hard drive with multiple partitions to being cloned to a new single hard drive with identical numbers of partitions.Compared to my prior experience, is there something different about cloning one partition only vs cloning the whole drive. My proposed plan is:
1) Install SSD
2) clone C: to SSD only
3) clone D: E: F: of old drive to new drive.
4) remove old drive.
Disclaimers out of the way, I'm getting random BSOD's, seemingly to always to coincide with my usage of Solidworks (ver.2009). Although, to be fair, this is my work computer, and SW is always running, so it may be unrelated.This is my first foray into debugging BSOD's (only recently started doing IT stuff), so I *think* I know what I'm doing, but we all know how that ends. I've attached the jcgriff.zip, but I couldn't seem to get my perfmon /report to finish it's 60 second test for an output report (working on getting administrative rights, will update accordingly).I've also attached the two .dbg files I've found to help better understand.It appears to be an error involving Memory Dumps and ntkernal errors.

I don't know if they're all the same error, but the most recent one was IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and 0x0000000A and this occurred when i started up my computer from hibernation.Ever since I had the first BSOD (in January), my computer crashes randomly when playing League of Legends. This does not happen often, maybe once a month, but it does happen. I wonder if this could be related to the BSOD. I also noticed my computer started up a lot more slowly after the first BSOD as well.

View 2 Replies View Relatedrunning on windows 7. it has been working fine for a few months then I started getting BSOD 0X0A and now the last BSOD that I got was 0x7E. It's pretty much random since there can be a time that I can use my PC for a really long time and not get BSOD and sometimes get it in just as little as 10 minute use. I just got this BSOD a few minutes ago and then when the system restarted there was no display. So I restarted the computer and NO POST, no beeps as well. keyboard light does not light up, no display either.

The issue is, we'll say 1/10 times booting, the boot freezes when Windows says "Starting Windows, and the first red pixel of the animation comes into view.After this, as per forums here, I enabled boot logging. The boot log does not seem to log anything when the freeze occurs. This makes me think there is an issue with the BIOS. This is a custom BIOS, and I am working with the manufacturer to try and see if they will send me an update, or at least do more research on this.Here are my ntbtlog.txt file results. They seem to be consistent. Should I be concerned with any of the drivers that did not load? [code] I also enabled diagnostic startup, and still was able to reproduce my boot freeze/hang issue.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI recently had some problems in my windows. Out of many problems in windows 2 were that windows update was not working and secondly dialogue boxes did not have texts on it. I ran a quick WDO on windows from Boot and the scan was successful. It found some Malwares and removed it aftet which the above 2 mentioned problems ran away.. But; when I did a full Scan so that problems completly eridate away; BSOD occurred and could not complete the task.. I tried it twice an both the times same thing happened..
