Oct 26, 2011Our office has an old program that we still need to use when upgrading our PC's to Windows 7. The program will run fine if you start a windows virtual PC and install and run it. However, based on the needs of our office, I need to be able to run Windows XP mode and simply have an icon for our users to click to take them to the application.If I install the program in windows XP mode, and then add a shortcut to the file under all users/start menu, a shortcut is placed in the appropriate place on the windows 7 machine and I can copy that shortcut ot the desktop. The program runs fine until you restart the computer. Once you restart the computer and double click the link on the windows 7 desktop to the program running in windows XP mode, it says:
Cannot start virtual application. The application is blocked from running as a virtual application.
I read some other posts saying to put a new shortcut in the all users/start menu folder. This works, but only until our users restart their computer. The next time the computer is up, the problem happens again. This is not an acceptable solution to have to create a new shortcut for each workstation each time the computer is restarted.
Windows 7 Running Slow, Not Running Games Properly?
Nov 1, 2011I'm just installed windows 7 on my 2009 imac through bootcamp. However there are some problems. Ive noticed when i try to play something on windows media player it will tell me that my computer is running low on memory and to close some windows. Also games run poorly if at all. I suspect its a driver issue but have gone through all the auto updates etc.

Sep 14, 2011Why would 5 of my windows 7 machines be running slow on our school network. I have updated drivers. We also have new laptops which are running windows 7 and access the network wirelessly. These are fine. The Main server is 2008 r2 while the data is stored on a 2003 server.

Feb 28, 2010I upgraded to windows 7 ultimate a few weeks ago (clean install) and since then when I go to access files on my file server (running vista home premium) it takes forever to pull up thumbnails of photos I have stored or any other data for that on the drive. I never had this problem when my comp was running vista home premium as opposed to windows 7 I flashed the BIOS on my mobo to the latest version and I have all windows updates. Any ideas what I can do to speed things up when accessing this drive?

Jan 5, 2011At my work we are in the process of upgrading our network from server 2003 and xp on the clients to server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 on the clients. We have some productivity software that will not run on windows 7 64 bit so we have installed the XP mode virtual machine in order to run that software. The software installs fine and runs fine. The problem we are having is some of the software is used to program PLC's and so we need to be able to talk with these devices over the network at their IP addresses. I have configured the "virtual" ethernet adapter and windows 7 ethernet adapter the same. From the cmd prompt in win 7 i can obviously ping the devices and communicate with anything on the network however when I am running the XP mode I cannot access anything on the network. The virtual mode isnt recognizing any of the physical computers resources. Is there a way to make it so when running XP mode and the programs in XP mode the computer can communicate with other devices over the network?

Nov 17, 2011A couple of months ago I was working on a logo design in Adobe Illustrator CS5 (I'm a graphic designer) when the power in my town cut out for a moment. It shut the computer down, and since then I noticed that it takes quite a long time for the machine to boot up... 5 or more minutes.
Also since then, every time I buy and install a new font it does not keep the font installed. I have to continuously reinstall them. Anything installed prior to that day is fine, but new fonts since then just won't stay put.
I'm using a Dell Studio XPS with Windows 7 Pro.

Nov 28, 2011Sometimes if I open a file by double clicking it in windows explorer, it will sit doing nothing (and that explorer window is then tied up) for a few minutes! Then the file opens normally in the correct application. But opening the application first, and getting it from the file open menu, or dragging the file into the open application is ok. The problem goes away if I reboot windows, but can come back again later for no apparent reason.

Nov 8, 2011A few days ago my pc started running really slow. I didn't do or download anything new so i'm stumped. every few minutes its like my system skips. freezes for a second then runs. Every program I click stops responding, I have to wait a few seconds for it to start running again. Minimized windows lag while they're being maximized, Chrome tabs open and load pages really slow. Even clicking the start menu takes it forever to come up. its like im running on an ancient PC. I've done some things to try and fix this like:Avg boostspeed and CC cleaner to try and fix any problems.Cleaned and defraged the registry &Defraged and optimize the hard drive Virus and malware scans all come back negative. No windows updates either.I have no idea what else to do.

Oct 20, 2011I have a HP I purchased at a store just over a year ago.I am running Windows 7 64bit. [code] I have some games (Spore, Sid Meier's Railroads) that worked great on this machine after I got it. The machine more then meets the specs. I could play for as long as I want and have no issues. Now I open either game and after about 5-10 minutes it is like the machine is overwhelmed with process. My CPU usage and ram goes up to 100% and everything is slow. When I click on a button to get a menu it takes 3-5 seconds for the menu to come up and then another 3-5 seconds for the mouse to move to the menu so I can select an option. So far I have made sure all my drivers are current, I have cleaned the registry with 2 different cleaners, I have removed all unnecessary programs from starting, I have tracked down process I determined to be non-essential and made sure those don't run, I have tweaked Windows to use less recourse (I should not need to do this now), I have removed unneeded programs, I have defragged, I have cleaned unneeded files, I have run Microsoft malware scanner (forget the name, no problems found), I have run Kaspersky 2011 in a deep scan and a critical area scan (nothing found), I even got one of those Speed Up My PC programs (I know garbage program) because I am so frustrated but that didn't do anything. I don't want to F disk it because I have too much data I need to keep.

Nov 25, 2012This program has been running for 12 hours without interruption, and it is still chunking away but slower. That is it seems to pause 5-10 seconds before flashing up the next file. I don't think my data is unusually large at just over 1 million files, and my hard drives total 2,946 GB with each well under 50% used capacity. All other programs can run smoothly and Windows Task Manager Shows no program is stuck. But if I need to wait for 1+ million files to be examined at 5 seconds each, it won't be done in my lifetime! What do I need to do differently?
