Office 2003 Word Very Slow To Open Or Close On Windows 7 Machine
Feb 10, 2012
I have Office 2003 Word installed on 3 Windows 7 Home Premium machines, but on one of them the program is very slow to open and close. I have uninstalled and re-installed many times with no improvement.
I have WINDOWS 7 32 bit, with MS OFFICE STANDARD 2003. WORD docs. take at least 2 mins. to open - and to save. This applies to docs. saved on MY DOCS and new docs received as e-mail attachments. The strange thing is that this was not the case when first getting the new PC with WIndows 7 -- it has developed within the past month and is most inconvenient as I work with MS Word docs. daily. I changed my antivirus from AVG to Avast, but no improvement re. the MS Word docs.
There are strange icons when I am in Windows 7 with Office 2007. I first noticed this when I needed to do a project. Because of the lack of new software, I had to save the file in the doc file format. Then, when I tried to open it to edit it, I noticed that the file icon was not right. It was the blank file icon with the Word 2007 icon on it. Then, I noticed that the rtf files have the correct file icon for doc files. The files can still open, but the wrong icon drives me nuts!
In windows 7, in my email program, a Word 2003 doc will not open. I must save the file to a folder, and then open it. This is the only type of file for which this occurs. I have gone thru the Default Programs drill and tried all types of options, but with no success.
since I installed SP1 for Office 2010 I have problems with opening some (not all!) older Word documents created with Word 2003 (*.doc). I get a message that Word can't read the document and it is probably corrupt. On a other client (same OS, Office 2010 without SP1) I can open the same document without difficulty.
I have recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit from XP 32bit. When I was running XP, Office 2003 ran fine on it, nice and quick. Since installing Office 2003 with Win 7, I have found that documents drag on it. By this I mean, if I'm scrolling down an excel spreadsheet or word document, it will be quite slow and the text will "flicker" as I am scrolling down. Basically, I can't scroll down as quickly as I could on XP. This is particularly noticeable on larger documents. Also, for example, if I insert a row of cells on Excel, it is slightly delayed and certainly not as quick as it was with XP.I have installed SP3 for Office 2003.I have tried Office in the XP mode on Windows 7 and this actually seems to solve the problem but I found that the XP mode slowed down other programs that I was using on my PC so I would prefer to find a proper solution to the problem.I also installed the 60 day free trial of Office 2010 on my PC and I still encountered the same slow issues. So I am certain this problem has something to do with Windows 7 and Office.
I Have been using Outlook 2003 (and office 2003) with Windows 7 for about 1 year and today - I cannot open Microsoft Office outlook 2003 - the message i keep getting is that - Microsoft Office outlook has stopped working . I do receive email on my cell phone but cannot access it on the computer.
I installed the Office 2010 software on my windows 7 64-bit laptop however now it doesn't open any of my Office files that are from 97-2003? It opens 2007, but nothing before do you know why?
My company recently installed Windows 7 and Office 2010. Every time I try to open a excel file, via a link on our Intranet it asks for credentials.I ruled out IE, firewall, and the document. I narrowed it down to something in Excel except i can't find it. Its like a security setting.I was able to open the file when I had Office XP installed but as soon as i installed Office 2010 it won't work.
I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.
I normally use Word 2003 for documents, although I use Outlook 2010. This morning I opened a Word 2010 document and after quite a while of some sort of an installation, I was able to open the Word 2010 document. I did not think too much of it, except that later I was sending an e-mail and attached a Word 2003 document and when I went to check it (i.e. open it up) it opened in Word 2010. How do I disable Word 2010 as my default program to open Word documents. I do not want to uninstall the program, but at this point I am not ready to learn how to use Word 2010.
Having upgraded my desktop PC to Office 2010, I need to import three seperate letter template files for use in Word. These were lost during the upgrade but are on my laptop, which still runs Office 2003, as .dot type files and I also have them copied to a memory stick. However, I am at a loss as to how and where to save them into the new programme on my desktop PC. If it makes a difference, I should add that I do not use Libraries and have disabled them.
I use now MSOffice 2003 but want to upgrade to the Student version 2010 which comes without Access.Does the Access from MS Office 2003 work in tandem with MSOffice 2010
I have installed on my computer Office 2007.When i opend a Word or Excel document and than try to close it i get the following error messages: "Microsoft office Word has stoped working"A Problem coused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notofy you if a solution is available. In some cases i can not even close my word ofr excel document and only can do so by using the Task Manager!

sporadic (4 out of 10) issues with saving files. Opens file from the network (AD) drive adds data which takes about 10 min. then saves the file. The save appears to be successful then user closes file and gets file permissions erro Yes or No to save file to another location or change name. They save it to another location. The original file disappears from the network drive.
I have windows 7 32 bit with office 2003. When I receive new updates for office 2003 it fails to install them. I get the error message 646.It tries to repair and fix the problem , but still will not install updates.
I installed open office and after a few months I deleted it to return to office 2003.Now if I create a word doc and try to email it I get a message that it can't find my email program. I finally printed it then scanned it and saved it as a PDF file ant then I could send it. I sure wish I could figure this out. I may need a 2003 service pack installed as I do not have it. I am trying hard to save the money that a newer office program costs.
I don't think I am breaching any Forum Rules with this, no doubt someone will soon tell me if i am!I am looking to buy the above software. I have located a company here.
if I buy a new Acer Aspire One Netbook with Windows 7 Starter as its OS, will I be able to install Office 2003 Pro (Enterprise) and be able to run all of its programs or at least Word 2003, Outlook 2003, Excel 2003, and Powerpoint 2003 without any additional apps/downloads?
I'm trying to install NeatScan to Office. When I run the setup.exe, it says it's extracting to Office.msi then gives an error, "Office version 2003 or higher must be installed to use NeatScan to Office."I've tried running it in compatibility modes (tried several) & nothing works.
All stored documents on my 1.TB memory PC take about one minute to close when I X out why? only in the past two weeks this has started. I have only a small amount of these documents. M.S. Office 2003.
I just bought a new Samsung RV511 laptop. I legally downloaded Windows office 2003 on it. My laptop will not open email attachments with my windows office 2003. However, my old desktop will open the same email. I don't want windows office 2010. What can I do to make attachments open with Windows 2003?
New laptop, Windows 7, office 2010 installed, frontpage 2003 doesn't seem to see the office 2010 version on c: so I located my old copy of office 2003 (full version) and put that in the cd drive and pointed it towards that, but that didn't work either. Any suggestions, I am too old and tired to learn a new html program. I have the Windows 7 home version.

Is Micrsoft 2003 compatible with Windows 7. Also, just purchased a new computer with Windows 8, I can't get it to upload to 8 so assume that is a no go? Is Microsoft 2007 compatible on Windows 8 or do I have to go to 2010? If I purchase the Microsoft 2010 from you, how many times can that be installed on my computers? I have 3, and I need the office version with outlook, excel, word, etc
