View 1 RepliesBought some pieces, assembled a new PC, installed Windows 7 Ultimate, then SP1, then several programs and everything seemed to be fine. But the next day, without changing anything, some programs won't start correctly, to be more precise: their processes seem to start (or at least they show up on Task Manager, but consuming only a few KB of ram and no CPU) but no program window appears whatsoever. Sometimes rebooting the PC will stop this from happening, but not always. Here I attach screenshots of CPU-Z and the customary files for debugging BSODs. Full system specs: [URL].
View 7 Replies View RelatedAs I shutdown/restart my laptop, I notice it switches to a secondary desktop that has been running programs.A good example would be trying to open my Task Manager, I can Ctrl-Alt-Del and it will allow me to open Task Manager - however when I click on Task Manager, it opens on the Desktop running in the background. I can't even access the Desktop in the background, it only shows up as I'm shutting down - closing programs that I tried opening awhile ago.
View 7 Replies View Relatedam having a problem with many of my programs. For example, my minesweeper does not save my game anymore, my curse client does not open saying it is a logging system error, my google chrome does not save my history and the extensions i have on it do not save any of my history as well, my windows desktop gadgets do not update anymore (my weather is not updating and says it cannot connect to the internet), and my taskbar does not recognize my cursor leaving it so it keeps whatever icon i had my cursor on last highlighted. The last thing I remember installing before all the errors occurred is minecraft and a minecraft server

View 2 Replies View RelatedI seem to not be able to install new programs to my computer anymore. dditionally, programs can not update themselves--the programs that auto-update have stopped working (they just "hang up" during the install or update process).
- Programs that don't try to update seem to work fine. I can use them, save new files, and do everything else as normal. The problem is restricted to programs that are trying to update, or programs I'm trying to install.
- Restarting the computer or trying to re-install the programs has not solved the issue.
- I am able to work around the issue for one of the programs (Screenpresso) by manually downloading the updated edition and installing it in safe mode. This tactic does not work on my other programs with "update issues" though (FocusMe, Market Samurai, & SpinnerChief)
- Disabling all my background monitoring programs in normal startup mode (Adaware, ZoneAlarm, AVG) has not helped
- The problem has been occuring for about a month and I've been tolerating it because the programs with issues were not needed then. Now they are--and I need to figure out what the issue is!
I'm using Windows 7 32 bit.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a 32 bit 2010 Office Home and Student version loaded on a 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium version. I received a 32 bit VBA Excel program that will open fine, but when I enable macros I get the VBA message: Compile error in hidden module: modtimebomb. I'm told this 32 bit VBA Excel program works fine when running on a 32 bit windows system. Would this be a problem with the VBA programming or is there a problem with running certain 32 bit excel programs on a 64 bit windows system?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI want to be able to restart Windows, by choice, either without startup programs running, or with startup programs running. The reason is that I have an old (~2001) Palm m105 PDA handheld that updates using Palm HotSync Manager via a USB/serial port cradle (Serial Port 6). It works very well and I don't have a need to replace it with something more up to date, but the problem is, when I try to run the hotsync while other programs are running, I get a Windows BSOD at some point before the hotsync finishes, I have to reboot every time, and the hotsync never finishes. However, I find that if I shut down almost every optional running program before running the hotsync, then I can run the hotsync to completion without the BSOD happening. As a workaround, to simplify things, I figure that when I'm ready to run the hotsync, if I reboot Windows to a state where no applications are running, I can run the hotsync and then reboot Windows back to its normal startup state, with all the normal startup programs running. This all seems very labor and time intensive regardless of how I do it.One way I thought of doing this more cleanly (though probably not saving any time) is to create another user account, with no startup programs, and run the hotsync from there, and switch between the two.

View 2 Replies View RelatedSo I downloaded a bunch of wallpapers to get a nice shuffle going on. Went into personalization and checked everything I wanted to get shown in the shuffle and saved it as its own theme.
The problem is that after I run programs (games, mostly - usually L4D, but just five minutes ago, Oblivion as well) the theme will have somehow switched to a new, unsaved and modified theme that is just fixed on whatever background I had up before running the program.
It's really just a minor annoyance, as I I just have to right click->personalize and select my saved theme again, but still - anyone know why it would be messing with my shuffle custom theme?
I'm looking for a way to keep my computer from sleep when I have certain programs from running.I'm most likely looking for an application that runs in the background with a list of some sort, and if a program on that list is open, the computer will not sleep after the "1 hour" of inactive mouse use, that I have set in power options.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm running 64-bit Windows 7. Last night my computer was fine, and I just booted up today to find that whenever I run programs, they don't show up on the taskbar. I have two monitors, one is my laptops screen and the other an external one. If I drag the applications to my laptop screen, they show up on the external screen, but if they are on the external screen, they don't show up at all.
The external is set to my main display.
Any ideas on what's going on?
I have a computer based training program that is designed to run on older Windows versions. The last version that I had it working on was XP. I am trying to get it to run on my new Windows 7 machine, with no luck. Windows has a patch to run XP programs, but it is not available for my home version of Windows.
View 16 Replies View RelatedMy laptop kept shutting off on me within 5 minutes of use about a month ago due to overheating. I took the laptop apart and noticed the fan wasn't working so I ordered a new one and installed it. Now the fans working great and the computer runs, however, the processor seems to be idling high. It seems to constantly increase processor usage even when no programs are running and back again to a base line in a constant pattern as can be seen from the attached cpu usage chart. I have disabled pretty much everything from starting on windows start up and have scanned for viruses and defragged my disk but to no avail. My laptop has a core i3 processor.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am about to install Windows 7 64 bit on a new-build PC, so it will be a new install and on a new formatted hard drive. I have three other hard drives on which all the program and other files were created under Vista 32 bit. I know I can transfer the files which are installed on my Vista boot hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer, but when I am running Windows 7 will it recognise all the programs and files on the existing drives if I just leave them there?
View 1 Replies View Relatedthis is really annoying when playing a game as it causes the game to drop out and go back to the desktop. it also does it when watching a Internet video on full screen or watching a video in windows media player blocking the controls and being generally unsightly in both cases.
i don't want the taskbar gone completely, i just don't want it interfering when i'm not using the blasted thing!
Aside from the surge itself, what other negative effects could arise from experiencing an outage while multiple programs are open and running? For example, if I lost power while regedit was open, could it change or possibly cause damage the registry itself? The machine in question is currently running Win 7 SP1 64-bit.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed a Kingston SSD and did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 32 bit. It runs well most of the time, but once or twice a day, usually when browsing the internet using Chrome or Firefox, the mouse pointer will go to the "busy" circle, and the program will stop responding. When it does this, I can't click on any other programs on the taskbar or use ALT-TAB to switch to another program.he mouse moves, but I can't interact with anything. If I'm playing music with Spotify in the background, or video chatting on Skype, they still run in the background, the skype video for the recipient doesn't even freeze. So it seems that all the programs are running, but my user interface stops working properly.
View 9 Replies View RelatedSo I've just built a new computer with the new 2011 chipset and initially the computer would freeze without warning while I'm playing games through steam, since then I have reinstalled windows and now it freezes when playing video files and FileZilla. I have no idea what is going wrong with the computer as I have updated the drivers and tried checking the components individually. Temp readings are normal and used memtest and intel burn test to check the ram and CPU. I have used my old nvidia GeForce 8800gt graphics card instead of the new one but it still doesn't work.
