USB Drive Not Getting Recognized In Windows 7 - Driver Service Disabled

Apr 4, 2011

I have two external USB drives, one independently-powered, one USB-cable-powered, both with NTFS and linux ext2 and ext3 partitions. Under Windows 7 both drives show up under Device Manager with the Property: "A driver (service) for this device has been disabled. An alternate driver may be providing this functionality. (Code 32)".

None of their partitions show up in "My Computer". (BTW, the partitions are all good and they are all usable from the linux side of my dualboot system.) I probably disabled the guilty service(s) myself. To get Windows 7 to work reasonably, I disabled all the services I thought I wouldn't need.

Which service(s) do I have to look at to get the disks to work again? The powered disk is a Hitachi HTS545016B9A300 and the unpowered one is the internal disk from my previous laptop, a "Seagate Desktop USB Device," both as reported by the Device Manager.

Disabled Service Reverts To Automatic?

Jun 4, 2011

I've changed a few of my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit services Startup Type from "Automatic" to either "Manual" or "Disabled" based on the "safe" recommendations at Black Viper's site. The changes have been successful with one exception. Note: This is my home PC, I am the sole user and administrator and this machine is not part of any network nor is it used for any peer-to-peer computer communication.I've changed the "IKE and AuthIP IPsec Keying Modules" service Startup Type from Automatic to Disabled. However when the PC is subsequently started from a cold boot or a restart this service always reverts to a Startup Type of Automatic. There are no other services dependent upon this service. I've made multiple attempts with the same result. How can I determine what is causing the reversion from Disabled to Automatic? Is there a Windows log or a 3rd party tool that can isolate the culprit?

If Service Is Disabled Any Services That Explicitly Depend On It Will Fail To Start

Dec 27, 2010

I am thinking of setting this service to manual, as this is a home machine. It does, however, have a wireless network running to which I've attached 4 devices (two laptops, a printer and an Xbox - but that's wired to the router).Supports file, print, and named-pipe sharing over the network for this computer. If this service is stopped, these functions will be unavailable. If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it will fail to start. 99% of me is sure that the above statement applies to a workstation in a production environment but I wanted to make sure and bounce it off a few of you folks.

DVD ROM Drive Disabled In Win 7

Mar 25, 2009

When I go to my computer it has a 'BD-ROM Drive' but my DVD-ROM/CD-ROM drive does not appear. I tried putting a CD but nothing happens.

Under device manager I have a CD-ROM drive enabled but below that is 'PBDS DVD+-RW DS-8W1P ATA Device which when I click says this device is disabled (Code 22). I try to click 'enable device' but when I go through the troubleshooting wizard is says windows cannot enable the device.

Can anybody help me? I just want to upgrade my Windows 7 Beta 7022 to 7048 but can't do it without my CD-Rom drive.

I want to get his fixed but if I cant would I be able to upgrade Windows 7 from Vista (I'm running a dual-boot) or will that write over my Vista partition?

Flash Drive Not Recognized Under Windows 7

Feb 9, 2010

I have an HP laptop which I recently upgraded from Windows XP Pro to Windows 7.

The flash drive (Lexar Firelfy 2GB) I was using on the XP OS can no longer be read under the Windows 7 OS. Information are stored in it (I am able to access it with computers other than mine), but my computer does not see them.

I have also tried different flash drives with the same results. Under disk management, my computer detects the flash drive but is unable to read it.

Lightscribe CD/DVD Drive Not Recognized In Windows 7

Mar 21, 2011

I recently installed Windows 7 Professional 32 bit on my computer. I actually installed it clean, because I had Ultimate on it; unfortunately, the copy I obtained was not genuine, so I got a genuine Professional in its stead. This problem started in, but I figured when I got a genuine copy of Windows, it would be fixed. No such luck.n is pressed; I have to stick a paperclip in the manual eject hole. The Device Manager doesn't even show that a CD Drive is installed, neither does any other program. I tried editing the registry myself and deleting the "upper filters" line, or whatever it is, but that didn't work. I have been attempting to find drivers, tools, or anything else that could help with this, but nothing seems to be working. Here are the specs for my computer: Product Specifications HP Pavilion dv2945se Entertainment Notebook PC - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Backup Drive With Windows 7 Boot File Is Not Recognized After Installing SSD

Oct 18, 2012

I used to run 2 WD Caviar Black 1TB each, I decided to get a 128gb Intel SSD, put the other 2 WD drives over to SATA port 2 and 3 with SSD on port 1. I did not format the WD drives since they both have data on it, port 2 WD still has Windows 7 installation on it.

When I started up after installing SSD, I went to BIOS to ensure everything is in working order, I noticed only 2 drives are detected, the SSD and WD on port 3. Tried several things like check connection, power connection, switched SATA cables, switched ports. Still no difference.

I went ahead and installed Windows 7 on SSD, disk manager does not detect WD on port 2.

Is it because that WD on port 2 still has windows installation files? How can I fix this? I have critical data on there that I need to access to.

Driver Disabled For USB Memory Devices?

Jun 19, 2011

When I attach any USB storage devices to my laptop (eg memory sticks, 1TB Seagate standalone drive, internal drive mounted in external usb chassis) I get a Code 32 error in the properties panel saying the drivers are disabled. All the devices show the following drivers:

c:WindowsSystem32DRIVERSApsx64.sys
c:WindowsSystem32DRIVERSdisk.sys
c:WindowsSystem32DRIVERSDzHDD64.sys
c:WindowsSystem32DRIVERSpartmgr.sys
c:WindowsSystem32DRIVERSsnapman.sys

These all look like pretty standard drivers. A possible item of interest is that I have been pretty aggressive about turning services to manual or disabled at boot to get my computer to run faster. Which driver is disabled and how do I enable it or otherwise fix this?

Realtek Lan Driver Not Recognized By Windows 7?

Aug 25, 2011

so this question might have been answered for some but i've been reading the threads and have tried other's working solutions and they have not worked for me.I recently moved my whole system to a new case ( a full tower vs mid) and everything was peachy until i notice no internet. at first i think ok i'll just re-download the lan driver via MSI cd. I put it in and all the drivers are colored and clickable except the lan one, crap, not sure why.. but i try downloading the driver via another computer and put it on external hard drive and install it from there. well it worked until a pop up comes up that says "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enable Please Plug the Cable" now of course the cable was plugged in so i was confused.. just to make sure i tried rebooting a few times, taking out the ram to reset motherboard settings. after that failed i checked my programs and settings and the driver was installed but under device manager.. nothing for networking at all. so i guess my question is, Is my windows failing on me cuz it can't recognize the lan or is my motherboard crapping out on me?

Hard Drive Not Recognized?

After removing a virus, my 3rd hard drive is no longer being recognize. It was a nasty virus. My main hard drive c: shows up as well as my second drive. e:. My other drive used to show up as well as f: but since all of this it hasn't. Nothing else was changed besides resetting the cmos battery and a couple of disconnect reconnections, becasue the drive wasn't showing up.Ide channel 0 master and Ide channel 0 slave (set to cable select). are the 2 hd'sIde channel 4 is a disk drive. The 3rd HD is also set to cable select. but that shouldn't matter cause that's what it was set to before.I also tried another spare hard drive I had with the same connections as the 3rd hard drive ( marked as slave and cable select). Drive Recognized But Size Is 0?

Jul 30, 2010

I had Windows 7 installed under Western Digital 400 Gigabyte Driveat first I got the BCD error message so I tried a repair with the rescued disk. When I use the repair tool the drive is recognized as Windows 7 followed by the letters zero. If I boot to another drive both drives are listed but I cannot open the damaged drive and under properties it shows 0 GB. I tried using the command prompt and the bootrec commands and they appear to complete but still the drive will not boot and is listed as having 0 GB. I can not understand how I could have lost all the files unless the repair utility in trying to fix the disc wiped it clean.

what to do next short of reinstalling window seven.

Can't Get NEW Hard Drive To Be Recognized

May 23, 2009

I have THREE Hard Drives.

1) XP. Old PATA hard drive

2) Windows 7 SATA

3) New Hard Drive (E; with program files, back up, images, music.

Sorry, I had to edit this message as every time I went to type E colon, slash, it gave a smiley face. so the E; = E colon, slash to indicate E assigned hard drive letter, the new hard drive.

When I boot to XP with the new hard drive (E; shows up fine.

When I disconnect XP and boot to Windows 7, the new hard drive (E; shows that it installs fine (lower right in windows, shows that the OS see's it and says it installed fine), yet I cannot see it.

The configuration that does not work is two (2) SATA drives, one with Windows 7, the other, the new hard drive.

To be sure, I disconnected the Windows 7, connected XP (PATA) and booted again, sure enough, the new hard drive (E; is fine and shows up.

I then disconnect and attach the Windows 7 hard drive with the new hard drive, (I even tried moving the SATA cable around) and Windows 7 boots fine, shows me that it installs the newly found hard drive (E; but does not show up on my computer.

Now, here is what may, or may not be a bug.

The new hard drive was formatted NTFS in WINDOWS XP, the drive letter assigned was E:, when I boot to Windows 7, I have a Virtual Clone Drive which also has the letter E: assigned to it. Could it be possible that Windows 7 does not know what to do since the Virtual Hard Drive was there first and therefore, doesn't show the new hard drive when running Windows 7?

I have tried everything I can to get it to be seen in Win 7 to no avail. Again, it works fine in XP, but does not show up in Windows 7.

Has anyone heard of this problem before? Do I need to rename, or assigned a different hard drive letter to E:? If so, how do I do that?
