View 1 Replies View RelatedLeft my computer running Win 7 home premium on overnight, had just installed a fresh copy of windows. I saw a message saying the system was restarted because of windows updates. Now, none of my USB 2.0 ports work, neither the rear ports nor usb mobo headers work. The two usb 3.0 ports do work however. Those 2.0 ports were working fine previously. Never seen update do this before.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWell I will get right to it. Its a desktop I built about 4 mths ago. I was goofing off all day, ran perfect. I got my package from Tiger.com, yay new memory. I also bought a drawing tablet that came w/ photoshop ele 8 and artrage. I promptly shut down my system, installed the new stick of matching memory, Corsair DDR3 4g 1600mhz, in slot two and four, with the old stick. I was only running one stick due to an order error. I reboot. The system recognizes it, runs fine. I install photoshop ele 8 and art rage along with an update to java. So far no problems. I turn the system off to plug in the drawing tablet per the instructions it came with. When it goes to reboot, i get to the windows loading screen, the animation just starts to load when i get a flash BSOD then the moniter shuts off to no signal and the computer just sits there fans and all running. I am using Win 7 home premium 64. I can get into BIOS. I have run the launch repair. I have tried putting the memory back to the previous configuration. I have run the memory diagnostic tool. I have tried system restore but no points to restore. I have tried to repair install with Windows disc, says disc is incompatible with current version, its the same disc i used to install windows the first time. I have tried to reinstall windows twice, still does it. I have attempted to make a repair disc, didnt work. If you can tell me how to get dump files from this state i would be happy to do so. If it helps at all i am using an SSD as my main hard disk, i have a second drive but there is nothing on it atm. I am just at a loss, i know a good bit about computers but not far enough, lol. My desktop is my baby and i really wanna get it up and running again.

When I restart it, fails to load and doesn't even show to startup screen, nothing, just a black screen. so, I must shut it down from the power button. And if I start it rapidly, it's possible to not start from the first try. I made a fresh install of the OS, nothing. Can this be a hardware problem?
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is only 4 days old. The IE9 icon in the taskbar was working properly meaning if I click the icon it will launch a webpage and if I pressed it again it will launch another webpage (the icon in the taskbar then get stacked up which is correct). Unfortunately after a windows update on my laptop, this feature doesn't work anymore. When I click the icon it will open a webpage but if I click it again the webpage CLOSES! No matter how many times I click the icon in the taskbar it won't launch another webpage. The IE in the start menu works fine and it will open as many webpages as I like but not in the taskbar (I have unpinned and repinned but to no difference) I have even done a system restore back to the earliest date possible but the problem has not been reverted. How to I fix it?.

nvidia - Graphics adapter WDDM1.1, Graphics Adapter WDDM1.2, Other hardware - NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M.
After installing it, whenever my laptop tries to use the Nvidia card, I get a blue screen and the system restarts. I looked in installed updates to uninstall it, and it is not there. I did a system restore to four days before I installed it, and I still get the same effect. Lastly, I installed some older nvidia drivers that used to work using the clean install option, and I still have this problem.

The file also included two .bmp icons, one for Walmart and one for the Samsclub. I renamed the Walmart .bmp icon to the exact file name of the Walmart.csv file so it is displayed on my map screen. Tried renaming the Samsclub icon with the same filename as the Walmart one but got an error. One user suggested that I split the main spreadsheet into two seperate files with all of the SamsClubs locations to a new worksheet in order to see the SamsClub icon.Since I am a novice user of Excel, how do I get all of the SamsClub entries on the main worksheet to a new worksheet?

I have tried the alt-tab, move method but still can't get them to appear. Is the problem caused because my computer thinks there are two monitors, when I actually have only one? How do I stop this from happening?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI know there is a thread running round with issues regarding Win 7 desktop not showing icons and the solutions to it.even CTRL ALT DEL don't work. Just shows me a black screen which fades back to a icon-less desktop. Solutions regarding finding explorer.exe and running it to show desktop icons don't work either.Just pops out the explorer window showing the desktop. And don't even start on right clicking desktop and select show icons.... cause that's the first thing I tried. System restore in safe mode yielded no results. Virus and malware scans turn up a clean bill. I'm only short of reformatting the pc, and I'm not even sure if I'm able to run the reformat from windows.

View 2 Replies View RelatedAt the beggining of the installation, after selecting install windows instead of repair, i waited for some thigs to be checked (like installing services, expandind files ..) before the final check, which was "completing installation" my pc restarted. After the restart, i waited the final point to be checked, i waited for about 20 minutes, and i thought that the pc tilt, so i restarted it. After i started it I get this message "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click OK to restart the computer and then restart the installation." I did this many times and get the same result.
View 10 Replies View RelatedI've been having an issue with Windows Explorer when it's restarted. If I restart Windows Explorer, My Computer, My Documents, and Recycle Bin will not respond at all. If I try to move, copy, or delete a file it will just hang up and not respond.I don't have any of these issues when Windows Explorer runs the initial time after turning on my PC or login/relogin to an account. But if for some reason I need to restart Windows Explorer, I might as well just restart the PC or log out & back in of my account because these issues will just crop up.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have my task bar placed at the top of the screen and auto-hide is OFF. This is what it normally looks like and should always look likeAs you can see indicated by the red line, there is a space between my web browser and the task bar. However if I restart my computer or if I open up a full screen game this is what happens:As you can see the space disappears. I prefer the look with the space but the only way to get it back is move the taskbar back to the bottom, then move it back to the topThe space comes back if I do that. However I should also mention that if I keep the taskbar on the bottom and turn off autohide, the space will be there as well but when I restart the computer the same problem occurs down there as well.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI was playing a game when suddenly the screen froze. The system was completely unresponsive. The lights on the keyboard wouldn't even change when pressing Num Lock, Caps Lock or Scroll Lock. When rebooting, the system would not go into Windows. It would just make it past the "Starting Windows" screen and then freeze up again. I ran System Repair and let it do its thing. It took about 5 minutes then came back and gave me a general error message, saying it couldn't fix the problem. However, Windows did start correctly after System Repair was run. The problem occured a few more times. Mostly when playing games but also once whilst I was browsing the internet (music was playing also).

View 6 Replies View RelatedThis morning one of our computers started acting strangely. Any window screens we have open, whether an Internet Explorer window, My Computer screen, etc, the top bars are flashing in and out. It is similar to the flashing like when it is trying to alert you of an error message / box you have to click through to do something else. The home screen is fine, and shows no signs of flashing or flickering, it only shows on any window screens you have open. It will interrupt you when you are trying to open drop down menus etc as well. I have gone into screen resolution, but as soon as I open a drop down box, it will close as soon as the screen flashes again. However I was able to change the resolution to a lower setting, but it still flashed. I also tried to change the screen refresh rate, but there was only one option to choose, 60 hertz. The computer is an Acer Laptop, running Windows 7 and AVG Antivirus, but I dont have any other exact specs on it right now as im working from a different computer. My mother said it had updated last night with a possible new Windows update? Again the back / desktop screen appears fine, it just seems to affect any windows you have open.

Has anyone else encountered this, and what does it mean? From a Google search, it looks like Restart Manager had to restart Explorer for some reason. I can't figure out why, though.
Got new ASUS N53JQ laptop, running Windows7, and can't get the taskbar to lock. I put the cursor "under" screen at bottom, right click to show taskbar, then click on "Lock the taskbar". A tick appears against it, but when I then click on the main screen, the taskbar disappears again.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI keep my taskbar at the top of the screen. I just like it there for ease of use. I'm not trying to make windows look or act like a mac (they annoy me with a lot of their button positions and whatnot)... I just like it up there on the top of my screen.
However, a lot of applications start out up at the very top of the screen. In XP, they started out in the middle of the screen, but in 7... well they are all the way at the top. And my taskbar is covering the menus and title bar, thus not allowing me to grab and move them.
Any of these which are resizable by grabbing a side or bottom edge, I just click there and windows will pop it down to just below the task bar. But several aren't, and I can't move the window in any way, shape, or form. If I know the menu layout, I can use alt keys to duplicate most functions... but some don't have alt key equivalents, or I just don't know them.
Is there any way, short of moving my task bar, or making it auto hide (which I do NOT want to do), to prevent this from happening, or even just reliably fix it each time it does happen?
It seems like each time I do the windows update for my "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Network - Realtek RTL8190 802.11n Wireless LAN (Mini-)PCI NIC", when I restart i get a blue screen sayingDRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL.
