Reloading Windows 7 After Hard Drive Change?
Feb 10, 2013
I have a toshiba satellite laptop and had to replace the hard drive. I am trying to reload Windows 7 from a USB. I went into the settings and changed it to boot from USB but the computer is not recognizing it. It gives me a black screen that says "Check cable connection! PXE-MOF: Exiting Intel PXE ROM. No bootable device--insert boot disk and press any key" I also have tried using a Windows 7 upgrade cd that says it contains the full version but got the same message.

I have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path. The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject. How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.

I have built a computer for video editing and named the hard drives (C for the main drive, (M for the drive holding my music, (P for the drive for photos, and I named the drive to store my videos (V. However when I tried to write path to the V: drive I was told V: is an invalid path, I suppose because of the confusion with a followed by a / which would give you a / which can be confused with V but is not exactly the same. I went to My Computer and right clicked on the V: drive and clicked on "rename" in the drop down menu and changed the name to "Storage" but the (V persisted. Then I renamed again and named the drive "Storage (S" and now in "My Computer" the drive is shown as "Storage (S (V" When writing a path to put videos on this drive can I use either S:/ or V:/ to get videos into this drive? Is there some way to remove the (V

I have two 1TB drives, each containing 4 partitions, used for backing up 4 computers. These drives are regularly switched between buildings as part of our backup strategy, always having one off-site. I have assigned drive letters M,N,O,P to respective partitions. When I swap the drives, the drive letters get reset and have to be manually reassigned. assigning the drive letters, including USBDM, but get no results.

I have a hard drive I want to backup to a 64gb flash drive and then restore it to another different hard drive than where it came from. I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.

I need to reload my w7 os onto my pc.Question i have is my hdd is partitioned and if i format and reload the os onto the C: partition will i be able to access the other partition after the reinstall? It`s not a recovery partition, don`t have that but i do have some info on it that i want. I know it should probably be backed up just in case but there is about a 100GB`s of "stuff" on it and i don`t have that available free space on any other drive that i have. Am i risking losing access to this info if i go ahead and reload the os?

I lost my Event Viewer, and had to do a repair installation to fix it. Unfortunately, during the repair install, Windows decided to rename my second HD as the D: drive... it was K: before that. Now I cannot access any of my docs, pictures, music, or videos through the normal means... they don't show up in libraries or explorer, and apps like Restorator and Sure Thing (CD labeler) cannot find them. I think that means the paths are broken..?
It won't allow me to rename the HD back into K: (it's not listed as available). I can access the data by clicking Computer > D, and I can see the data is there, but its unusable as of now. Any ideas?

Had a major crash so bit the bullet and went for a fresh re-install of Win & Home 64 bit. Now it will only let me reinstall a few progs previously downloaded. It comes up with a message that says: The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you are running. Check to see wethere you need a 32 or 64 bit prog and contact the software publisher. These progs all downloaded and installed before. I have switched off UAC to no avail. It also seems to install freshly downloaded files.

I had to reload Windows 7, and made a backup copy of my hard-disk before restore. When I reloaded the backup files, most went well, but some of the .pst files took an extra effort. BUT 7 years of personal folders were nowhere to be found! The backup file is about 58 zipped folders of 200 MB. How can I look up for my personal folders in this backup? Adress book, sent items and some other folders I have recovered, but all my saved e-mails (sent and received) are lost or at least disappeared.

So, I have a i7 2600K system with a solid state disk as the boot drive, and an older (c2008) Samsung Spinpoint F3 500GB drive as the data drive for programs (that I deem as not worthy of the quick load times). The hard drive has given me some errors over time, and I bought a hard disk to replace it (a Hitachi 1TB). The issue I'm having is that the fact that Windows 7 puts a small (100MB) partition on the F3, and for some reason, even though I'm running Acronis 2012, it doesn't seem to be able to clone the F3 over to the Hitachi. I've also tried Drive XML, and for my 2 hour wait, I only managed to acquire a boot error. Thankfully, I've not done anything rash to destroy the data on the F3, but given the fact that I've seen corrupted files in Steam from that drive, I'm not will to trust it long term with my data. I really need to get the data onto that Hitachi, though... Anyone have any advice for upgrading the HDD in a SSD/HDD system? I don't really feel like it should be so hard, especially if I've bought Acronis True Image, but maybe they haven't designed their product to handle this scenario quite yet?

I have a HP Touchsmart IQ500. Turning my computer PC on today, all I got was a blue HP invent screen with setup, boot menu, system recovery, and system diagnosis, and I could not get past it. I entered the BIOS and figured out that the hard drive was listed as "not installed." Pretty sure that is the main problem.I tried a system restore (with the Windows 7 install disc), but I guess the computer couldn't read the hard drive enough to enter safe mode (I tried restarting and F8ing several times). I put in an external hard drive, and the BIOS read it; however, windows does not allow you to partition an OS on a hard drive.

Me and my brother built me a new computer from scratch (he did the building - i did the watching). I purchased an internal hard drive from Overclockers UK. It's a Samsung 1TB drive. I also have a 64 Solid-state drive in there as my primary hard drive that Windows was installed on and a couple of programs are installed on. My storage disk (the 1TB disk) is for all my music/films etc. Whenever I drag and drop a file into the Samsung hard-drive - it copies it rather than moves it instantly. When I had a laptop, I had 3 external hard drives and this is the way it copied files onto them.how I can get the internal drive to stop acting like an external drive?

I dunno whats going on, the icons on desktop refresh every time the desktop loads (it does not repeat during session), these can be fast or slow and i have to remove them cos it will takes ages - they are already loaded when desktop comes on...but they all turn into white sheets then load again?I dont know what is causing this there is no AV installed, ive uninstalled perfect disk and disabled wireless adapter so only windows is loading.. it seems to happen as soon as the power & volume icon load in the tray, ive updated the audio driver and increased icon cache size to 2000 then 8000 but still it does this? the only thing i done before it started happening was I stopped a defrag session before it finished.

My Dad has a vintage Dell Optiplex, just reinstalled Win XP and now the *^%^$ NIC cannot see the webI rechecked and verified that the connecting cable is OKI tried downloading a NIC driver from MS, but the installer cannot see it. The hardware manager (control panel) does not show NIC mfg. details so I have to guess. The NIC is built into the board so I can't disconnect it.
