RAID Installation Problems ASUS MB And Etc.
Nov 28, 2009
I have a computer I built using an ASUS MB A8N-SLI Premium card. This card is a was purchased in 2007 and is one having two RAID chipsets. The first is a NVIDA and the second is a Silicon Image. The OS was XP Professional.
When I set up to install Windows 7 Professional Upgrade, I found that a) there were no ASUS drivers for Windows 7 and the "generic" Nvida and SII Raid drivers would not work with this ASUS card. So, says I, lets try and see if the VISTA drivers will be accepted by Windows 7... Nope.. Win 7 error says "can't find any drivers compatible with your hardware". OK.. So..
I have to buy a completely new motherboard.. I chose the Gigabyte MA790GPT-UD3H with AMD Phenom II Quad-Core 3ghz CPU. The M B is excellent with dual output video for two CRTs, and all the I/O I needed including IEEE1394 port for my FlexRadio.. But I get ahead of myself! So.. Let the buyer of Windows 7 be aware that he should check his MB and insure that Windows 7 drivers are available for his particular model. Otherwise, upgrading to Windows 7 can be more expensive than you planned!

I bought a PC with a ASUS P6T Deluxe motherboard a month or so ago and installed Windows 7 Ultimate to a SATA drive. When the machine boots up it goes through the process of initialising the onboard RAID controller then looking for drives to boot from RAID - of which there aren't any. Also in Device Manager I have a RAID controller showing under Other Devices as 'not installed'.Can I disable RAID in the BIOS to speed up booting as I don't need it at present (or do I???)?

I have an Asus P6T SE Motherboard with 6gb RAM, Core I7 etc and 3 x Samsung 1.5tb disks. Purchased specifically for RAID config. I wish to RAID 0 2 of the disks and then use the third to back up data.
I initially set up the rig with RAID 5, it was a disaster for me (using the built in Intel sotrage manager) as I had a slight error and it was still rebuilding the array some 3 days later so I decided to cut my losses and go to RAID 0.
The problem I now have is that despite Windows 7 seeming to install correctly, when it comes to the reboot section (just before 'completing installation) the machine cannot find a bootable device!!! I am removing the USB key at this stage to stop it from starting all over again.
it reports 'reboot and select proper device, or select boot media etc'
I have already tried
- Destroying and rebuilding the array with different sizes in case Windows 7 struggles with large boot partitions
- Resetting BIOS to defaults
Even reverting to an IDE set up and this still wont boot!
Can you help guys, I cant see how the PC could have been corrupted at a pre OS level that would stop the disks from working as I have configured. But nothing would surprise me.

Just bought Asus M4A78-EM AMD780 with AMD Phenom X4 9750.
I am using TSD 500AAKS Western Digital Caviar 500GB and a WD2500JB IDE
Ultra 2048DD2 8Gb Memory and Cyberlink Optical Drive
Am unable to create a RAID with the Optical Drive in slot 1 and the WD500GB in slot 2. sometimes the machine fines the disk drive, sometimes it does not, it never fines the WD500GB.
I was able to install windows7-64 on the IDE disk but the program does not boot - did not restart when it finished installing.
Anybody has an idea?
The latest problem I am getting the message Secondary Master ATAPI incompatible. Going crazy with this, so far as i know the disk drive worked perfectly until now. Where can the problem reside?

This is my first post but after searching the internet trying to find RAID drivers to work with 64-bit Windows 7 when using an Asus M3A motherboard, or another model using the ATI SB600 RAID driver, I have discovered a lot of people are having an issue and are having to use IDE emulation mode.
I was lucky to stumble across this post on the AMD forums with a working driver:
AMD Game Forums - SB600 RAID driver for Windows 7
If this driver ever gets removed I will keep a copy, please send me a message on this forum and I'll email it to you, it works!
Several people have suggested downloading combinations of drivers or forcing the use of older ones, but this one does work straight away, no hassle.

How to setup RAID 0 with an Asus CG5290-BP007?
I bought an Asus Desktop CG5290-BP007 at best buy, when I opened it says RAMPAGE II GENE/CG5290/DP MB
Asus CG5290
motherboard: Rampage II Gene Micro Atx
Processor: Intel I7 920 (2.66 Ghz)
Ram: 9GB
HD: Seagate 1TB 7200 RPM
Windows Vista Home Premium 64
If you want to see the link here it is: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=9366642&type=product&id=1218092150864
I removed the Seagate and I put 2 WD Velociraptors 300 GB each and 10,000 RPM, I have a concern, one it is on the port 1 and the other velociraptor is on port 3.
Does it affect in order to make appear the RAID option in the bios? Because it does not appear, it just appears these options: IDE and AHCI. How come it does not appear RAID in the bios options?
What am I doing wrong? Or what do I have to do in order to setup in the bios as RAID?
I don’t know if this link below it is exactly my motherboard, it seems that my desktop came a little bit different than this motherboard or they designed specially just for best buy, I am not sure about it.
http://usa.asus.com/product.aspx?P_ID=6i86Hj0lGriFHfY9
I took several pictures to show you what appears when I turn on the computer and when press <Del> to enter in the bios and when I just turn on the computer and I don’t do anything.
I went to Asus website and I downloaded the manual for Rampage II Gene Motherboard, I was reading it and It says that Intel Matrix Storage Manager option Rom utility will appear when I press CTRL + I , I tried it several times and nothing happens, is that option working in my Asus Desktop CG5290-BP007 ?
Please help me what to do, I would like to install Windows 7, my hard disks are not formatted I think so, because I just installed them and I am not able to see RAID in the bios options, Please tell what steps to follow in order to setup RAID 0 in this computer.

So I just recently decided to do a RAID 0 configuration on my ASUS M4A89GTD with two 1 tb drives. I first set the Raid controller to the raid 0 setting and added my two drives. The raid manager reported back the raid 0 drive was healthy and working fine.
I proceeded to go through with a fresh windows 7, 64-bit install. The install goes fine but when the computer boots up to load windows 7, it hits a blue screen and instantly restarts. Over and over again.
I think I tracked down the issue to a rogue registry entry. Apparently there is an entry called iaStorV that causes the drivers.sys file to not load the drivers correctly, causing a blue screen error.
Things ive tried: Using ubuntu off a cd. Didn't work because the chntpw doesn't know how to mount a raid 0 drive Regedit bootloading programs, dont work because they dont know how to deal with a raid drive Regedit in the system restore command prompt. Doesn't work because it's version doesn't match windows 7

So i have a new SSD Corsair Force 3 240 gig and all I want to do is install Windows 7 Pro on it. This board does not support parted magic (cannot wake from sleep and there are no onboard video to wake up to) so ive resorted to clean all.I have not been able to successfully boot the OS on the SSD. I never intended on setting up raid but apparently all the literature i see is on raid. I created a USB install disk as reccomended onto a 8gig ntfs primary active did the bootsect /nt60 X: and it successfully worked copied the cd over to the flash drive and copied the rste drivers in a folder called drivers My SSD is installed on port 1 6gig sata intel (as this board doesnt have marvel apparrently) My DVD is installed on 3gig Sata port 6 I set up Raid in the bios as reccomended by others (as this is the only way to install ssd?).
Nothing UEFI is enabled There are no other drives hooked up to the computer. Just SSD, USB cordless mouse, keyboard and no network cord or WIFI i started with a clean ssd as reccomended my bios recognized the ssd on post i booted into the win 7 install (MBR not uefi) i loaded the 64 bit rste drivers from asus as reccomended by others i left the machine to install the usb then booted into windows install (for whatever reason) i pushed f8 to boot my corsair windows brings up an error on a black screen File: windows/system32/drivers/adpahci.sys driver did not load Status: oxc0000221 Info: Windows Failed to load because of a critical system driver is missing or corrupt

I have a Asus Xonar DG audio device, but no sound. No sound at all. When I go to my device manager, yellow exclamation points are on my Asus Xonar and on RAID controller. Asus says driver is current. AMD High Def audio device is not disabled, should it be? If I disable it would I have sound? I have to listen to 4 hrs of video for work so I have to have sound back up asap.

- build a system with 1 WD1101FALS HDD and installed Windows 7 64 bit no problem. All was good for few days until I got a bug to set up a RAID 10.
- Went out bought 3 more of the same drives. All 4 drives are WD1101FALS 1TB.
- Set up the RAID 10 array on the ASUS motherboard, got the RAID drives for Win7 64bit on a USB key.
- Start install, no problem. Win7 asks for drivers, I click browse and select the drives from USB for the RAID. Install continues, files are copied, thing are flying, it's fast.
- Then 1st re-start
- Windows continues to install (finalizing things, registry update, etc).
- I get to 4 check marks on the Windows Install screen and then it goes into the last step "Completing Installation". The progress bar goes to about 80% complete and then
BLACK SCREEN, computer re-starts. Windows comes up with a message "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation can not proceed. etc.." It assks to press OK and and PC re-starts and the installation re-starts from scratch. I tried about 15 times, with different RAID drives, from XP to Vista, to Win7.
I have no clue what else I can try. Usually people have problem with the RAID drives but I have no problem with that step. The drivers are selected and seem to be working fine. The install almost completes.
Here are the images on how far along the install goes. The progress bar actually goes more than that, I just took a picture before the black screen.

I'm looking to move my Win 7 install from a RAID 0 (with two traditional HDs) to a new single SSD.
I have the new SSD installed in the computer and the system can see it fine. (In fact, I installed a trial copy of Win 7 and it boots up fine).
I'm not sure what's the best way for me to proceed. Do I make a disk image of the RAID partition with Acronis and restore it to the SSD? Any way I can set this up so I can keep my existing program files and installations?

I can't install my Windows Ultimate 64 bit edition on my RAID 0 Western Digital 500GB hdd's because on the boot screen my computer keeps telling me to "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device", I've done both those instructions, rebooted, reinserted, all of it, no solution. I made sure my boot priority is the drive first, and raid drives after. Still nothing. But this is the interesting part, last time I fixed this problem by using my previous computers dvd drive to install instead of the blu ray, it installed and everything was right with the world.
But I have since then thrown out the old DVD drive, and now have nothing to install with. So what I did in the past hour was used a freinds DVD drive to install and it did not work. When my System Config, is set to RAID, it calls both my blu ray and his dvd drive, ATAPI CD, when in IDE, it calls my blue ray a blue ray and his dvd drive a dvd drive. I simply want to do a clean(custom) install of my windows 64 bit on my two RAID 0 HDDs, I've checked the boot priority, I've put both hdds in RAID0 and I've also used someone elses dvd dive to try and install.

I have an Eee 1000HE.
I used to be able to install Windows 7 Betas just fine, but now when I went to go install the latest build 7057, it gets up to the Copying Files section, then jumps straight to 100%, then goes into Expanding Files, then comes up with an error about not being able to find the files!
I tried reverting to a previous beta that I knew worked, same problem.
I tried reformatting (through Ubuntu) and still can't get it to work!
Anyone else have this kind of a situation?
EDIT: I'm using a IDE -> USB Adaptor, tried two different DVD drives, same result.
I would LOVE to have Windows 7 on my Eee, but it just won't work!

Well this computer is brand new its supposed to have windows 7 its a Eee PC. A message pops up saying The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click "OK" to restart the computer, and then restart the installation.as far as I know new programs were not added and the installation was completed the first time. I already tried safe mode but it does not allow me.
P.S. its the mini so it has no cd rom to insert the cd and it did not come with a cd.

My new asus p8z68-pro mobo runs everything just fine in the bios -- it detects all the relevant drives, my USB peripherals are working, etc. When I try to install Windows, however, I run into a problem. As soon as the installation files load off of the DVD and the installation begins my USB devices shut down. This means, of course, no keyboard or mouse to proceed with the install, so I'm stuck.I checked in the bios -- both the usb legacy support and the usb 3.0 legacy support are turned on. I have tried this with the EHCI hand-off both on and off. Either way, I run into the same problem. I've even swapped out my fancier mouse and keyboard for simpler models to see if it was some sort of driver issue, but nothing seems to make a difference.

Client of mine has bought his notebook ASUS U31S with external DVD drive yesterday and he asked me to install windows 7 ultimate (origin was windows 7 home edition) beside other operating system Linux and Solaris.
I divided the 500 GB hard disk but didn't touch the hidden partition that has recovery.
I formatted the C partition that had windows 7 home edition and install a fresh copy of windows 7 ultimate,,,the process was smooth , first restart asking about username and computer name , password,,,etc ,,,,but with the second restart, PC kept rebooting without completing the windows installation.
Although I have used the same widnows 7 CD for his other new laptop and the installation went smooth without any problem.
I tried different media same problem. This laptop does have an external DVD driv, of course it is an LG and brand new

I am currently attempting to install Windows 7 on an SSD RAID Array, and I have encountered several issues (this has been a one step forward, two steps backward affair). The issue that I am currently facing is the fact that I am unable to load RAID drivers during the OS installation. As is normal for this kind of installation I choose "Custom" and I cannot see any drives listed, this is the point at which I click on "Load Drivers" and then I select "Browse". My challenge is that regardless of how I "insert the drivers", which is to say whether I put them on a separate USB drive (FAT32 partitioned), or take the Windows 7 installation DVD out and insert a CD with drivers - I simply cannot navigate to the drivers.Because I am unable to load the RAID drivers I simply cannot proceed with the OS installation.*** Note ****As of writing this I came across a program called RT Seven Lite, which has allowed me to create a "slip streamed" Windows 7 installation - using the program I was able to integrate the troublesome drivers into the Windows 7 installation disk.

I have a mature Windows 7 system, with so many applications loaded that rebuilding from scratch is just not an option. I have a 300MB Velociraptor wholly given over to the OS and another empty 300MB VR. I want to extend, that may not be the right word, my OS to use both disks in Raid 0.

I have Win 7 Pro 64 bit installed on an ASUS P7P55D LE motherboard which supports RAID 0,1,5 and 10 using Intel Matrix Storage Technology through an on board Intel P55 chip set. The system was assembled in Nov 2009 using two Western Digital Caviar Black 750Gb drives in RAID 1 as Drive C:. (I now know from Western Digital Customer Service that I shouldnt have done that, but lets move on from there). Last December, an error message informed me the RAID array was broken and identified one of the 750 Mb drives as needing replacement. I happened to have a spare 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black at the time, so I pulled the 750Mb drive and replaced it with the 1.5Tb drive. Life was once again good. Then on July 4th (wouldnt you know) there was a repeat of the December 2011 error message telling me to replace the other original 750Gb drive. Okay so I had another 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black laying around (dont ask) and did a similar swap out. Thats when I emailed WD Customer Support asking about the 750 since their diagnostic software said the drives were fine. Thats when I learned that I should be paying lots more for enterprise quality drives if I want/need RAID. Well thats not what ASUS says in their advertising, but live and learn. All thats prologue, because my real question is whether its possible to break the hardware-based RAID 1 array and set up a Windows 7-based RAID 1 with the two 1.5Tb WD Caviar Black drives without having to reinstall Windows 7.

anyways, my main drive is a RAID 0 with Vista x64, but I have a second HD that is a SATA 250GB, which I installed Windows 7 on. The only way I could get install to work was to switch my BIOS to IDE mode rather than RAID. I would of course though, like to be able to access my Vista drive from Windows 7 (and more importantly, not have to switch between IDE/RAID mode at all in the BIOS, it's a pain).
Now, the one odd this about this all is that the drivers I have for Vista (x86/x64 drivers) for this mobo's RAID controller WORK when loaded on installation to identify and install to the drive, but seem to not load or not work in any way once the first reboot on install occurs. Maybe this is because I installed from within Vista x64, though.
(Incedentally, my motherboard is an M3A Asus, using ATI's SB600 for a RAID controller)
I've tried loading the drivers from within Windows 7 while in IDE mode, but the install program won't let me. At first it didn't allow because of version restrictions, but then I altered the ini file to get around that, but it encounters some sort of error when installing and quits.
Any help that can be offered, would be grateful. I realise it's a beta and not a real release, so I can get past the BSOD from my odd setup, and I really am enjoying playing around with it so far. Very very impressed.
Edit: Just in case anyone thinks of suggesting me to right-click the inf file and install that way, already tried, won't allow for it.
