Operating Disc Isn't Recognized And Password Isn't Working
May 19, 2011
I was trying to open .pdf files last night and they weren't working. My task bar showed that there was an update to adobe so I downloaded it, restarted the computer and went to bed.
I got up this morning and the password screen was up. I tried to input the password and it said it was wrong. One weird thing is it's not giving me the option to click on my password hint, which I always create. I have not been able to get past the password.
I found my operating disc and put that into the drive, restarted the computer and nothing. The password screen still shows up exactly the same, no hint, password doesn't work and nothing happens when I try to use the disc. I've also tried F11 at start up and nothing there either.

I'm currently looking to replace XP with windows 7 on my old PC, one so I can use it as a media centre for my TV and it should improve the performance of my machine a little.
The problem I have is, I bought a copy of windows from my local computer store, they've given me an OEM copy (not sure if this matters) and when I put it into the DVD drive it accesses for a coupe of minutes then nothing happens.
I have read that there's a lot of issues out there with windows 7 & installs and I guess I want the easiest way to get around ths issue.
What I've tried:
1. restarting the PC with the disc in it but it just booted XP from the hard drive
2. changed my bios setting to boot from DVD and restarted. The couple then hangs on a black screen for around 20 minutes and then boots XP.
3. tried opening disc in "my computer" but no files are visable, so I can't select the setup file
4. I have checked the DVD drive is working fine and it will even recognise my other copy of windows that was provided with my new PC, however I get an error along the lines of "incorrect installation disc select correct installation disc and select custom install".
5. I tried the OEM disc in my new PC and its recognised, so disc is fine
6. I checked compatibility using windows upgrade advisor it seems to say I have no conflicts and can either use 32bit or 64bit
7. I also download CPU-Z and checked that the processor is 64bit compatible and supposedly it is.
The only thing I can think of is to do a full clean install so format my harddrive and install, I'm happy to format the drive as I've backed everything up, however I've installed operating systems for years and never had this many issues. I'd prefer not to have to disconnect harddrives but if I have to then I will. I just don't see a reason why I should have to go that far to install an OS.

To start off, I've been having massive problems with my current laptop. Mainly just the OS which started going wonky after a Microsoft update about a month back. Ever since, I've had to deal with slowness, lagginess and many errors. After trying to fix these things manually, such as updating, removing old files I don't need as well as programs, I had to eventually give in and do a system restore. And this is where my other problem begins. For one reason or another, the previous restore points I had are mysteriously gone. I only had one from around 2 days ago. All the ones I had from as far back as a month are history. Why I do not know. I usually check up on that to make sure I have one from way back. Perhaps I may have deleted them without knowing. So much to that.
I really want to do a complete reformatting or system installation. A clean one. However, my DVD drive doesn't recognize or acknowledges any of my OS discs. None of them. And they're all purchased from Microsoft. Not even the ones that came with my laptop are working. All other discs work. Such as DVD's as well as regular CD's. I updated the DVD drivers and still nothing. I tried Fixit and still nothing. I don't get why it only does this with the Microsoft installation discs.Currently, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Precision M4400. 32bit. The DVD/CD is a Toshiba TSST corp DVD+RW TS-U633A. I already tried cleaning the DVD drive as well as making sure all the installation CD's have no signs of damage. And they don't.

Bought an Windows 7 home premium upgrade disc for my Vista home premium pc, duly went and downloaded the upgrade advisor program before opening the package and it told me that my computer was a-ok to run windows 7 and upgrade, so I opened the package and put the dvd in my laptop's drive. It makes a whirring noise, then sticks, if I click on the drive it tells me to insert a disc and ejects the windows 7 dvd. This is the first and only DVD that has ever behaved like this, all others work.

I was trying to completely restore my system using factory discs. I upgraded my ProBook 4525s from 32 to 64 bit. because of all the problems I've been having, I tried putting on the 32 bit version again... well somehow I'm miss a whole lot of stuff. I'm not super computer savy, but figured that i've bdone it in the past, I can do it again. Well the first thing I noticed is that my wireless isn't working. So I go to HP website and try and download some different drivers. Nothing is working and when I try to open and install anything downloaded it doesn't work properly. Went to update my bios and it needs F.0A which I can't download because I don't have a burning software that is compatible. Why I need to burn something to disc when I want to download it directly I don't understand..

Firstly I should say that I am primarily a mac user, and it is not my laptop I am posting about. Although I am reasonably knowledgable about Windows, I haven't used it since XP, about four years ago, and so am pretty rusty.Basically, my girlfriends computer randomly turned off about a week ago, she assumed it was a dead battery, plugged it in, and then when it turned back on it wouldn't boot displaying error message: missing operating system. As it is a Dell laptop it didn't come with any installation discs, and I totally forgot to even make a repair disc when we got the laptop. I managed to get hold of a Windows 7 Installation Disc and license key for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit through my university. I think the laptop was previously running Windows 7 Home Premium, but that's all I know, and I'm not entirely sure of that fact.
Anyway, burnt the .iso to disc and have tried to boot several times from DVD Drive. The laptop loads the files from the DVD fine, and gets as far as the "Starting Windows" screen, where it seems to get stuck for a few minutes, until it becomes a black screen with just a cursor (the cursor still moves). This also happens with an 64 bit repair DVD I also managed to get hold of.

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium on Acer Ferrari 200 (pre-installed). There will always be times where after waking the notebook from sleep, the password will not get recognised. I am very sure password is correct. The occurance after a number of sleeps and wakes varies. And the only way to get in again is to hard reset. My account is admin privilege and the only account in the notebook. I have checked the security event log but there is not denied messages.
I have the latest Zonealarm Extreme 9 installed and Bit Defender disabled. All recommended Windows 7 patches installed.

Lost administrator password on windows 7. I must have accidentally mistyped my admin PW when trying to change it. I don't want to get locked out completely. I do not have a back up or restore/repair disc. Is there any way around it besides using the disc, or USB, or complete reinstall? Just wiped the HD and had to start over so don't really want to do that again. My personal account is just fine and I can access that. However, without admin pw, I am very very limited.

My windows operating system is not working properly. It's taking too much time to start. Sometime, after starting, internet connection isn't being connected. After restarting PC it connectes. Sometimes, after starting PC, a message shows that the windows wasn't shut down properly. Then some options come i.e. "Start windows normally" and so on. After pressing 'Enter' it starts.

Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/Windows 7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.
I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.
We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.

My friend's Sony Vaio recently stopped working. It's displaying a black screen and the words "Operating system not found." I tried to do a system restore on it but half-way through it reported an error and aborted. Since a recovery disc wasn't provided or made, we bought one from a website provided by Neosmart.net and burned it onto a blank CD. The CD starts up but the problem is that it can't find the Windows 7 operating system. It was the only OS installed on the hard drive.

New to the forums, kind of a novice with computers and I'm at a loss with what to do.Okay so my Acer Aspire 7551 running Windows 7 Premium Home 64bit was acting funny so I decided to do a system restore. So I put in the Acer Recovery Discs that I made when I first purchased the computer. Now I have used this discs before with no problems at all. So I put the first disc in, selected the option to do a complete system restore back to factory defaults. It's my understanding that this completely wipes the OS off the HDD. So the first disc ran with no problems. I put the second disc in and got an error message Fail to copy to HDD: D:PatchModulesWIncre.002WOP000460OX0TCB111.SWM Press OK to continue I press OK to continue, and it boots back to the BIOS screen. Then it goes to a black screen and says BOOTMGR IS MISSING. PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO CONTINUE.So I put the recovery disc back in to try the process over again and same thing happens.

I have a toshiba satellite c655 laptop with windows 7 64bit going thru some issues right now. Long story short, windows wont boot. I've tried a myriad of repair options with no success, and am now trying a burned repair disc from another windows 7 64bit computer. I boot from the disc, and everything is fine. I hit the first 'next' button. When it reaches the second menu screen that's supposed to show your OS, it just doesnt load. The cursor becomes a little blue circle that shows its loading, but never does. I left it there for at least 10 hrs to no avail.

All of a sudden about two weeks ago one of my ports for my wireless router dongle decided to quite so I used another and after a couple days that quit as well. Now none of the four work nor does the disc drive. I have tried everything to attempt to correct this but I get the same result. I don't know if it is in the system configuration I am missing or the CPU board going bad. I would hate to buy a new board and have the same results their by telling me it was the Windows 7 software all together. I could re-install Windows 7 but I do not want to delete all my programs I use that are loaded.

I had Windows 7 Home Premium installed and I just wanted to reinstall everything but when I boot it up from CD it is not working for some reason. It just goes straight to Windows 7 log in. Seems like ppls been having problems but they do not seem to have exactly same setting as me. Since I am doing Windows 7 to Windows 7. I wanted to format it but instead of just formatting I tried installing it. But now it is not working.BIOS setting is CD/DVD and I also manually did it by pressing F12.. still not working.

i have a Acer Aspire 5755g-6841 laptop, and yesterday i started getting this message. "bootmgr is missing" after i tried to do a system restore. The attempt at the system restore ended bad with it not finishing and me having to reboot my laptop. It was stuck at 99% completion for 5hrs. Now when i use 2 different restore discs that i made for windows 7 64-bit from a downloaded iso, i get stuck in the recovery options menu with the blue loop never ending and no OS being loaded to be selected. Also anytime i try to use the eRecovery from pressing ALT+F10 it gets the blue loop there and never loads.

Okay. I am new to computers, I just hated vista with such wrath that I printed out everything ever to computers and updated to windows 7.
I had vista 32 bits, and all my drivers were working correctly when I upgraded to windows 7 32 bits. But I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 64x because I found out my computer has additional RAM that wasn't being used by the 32x OS.
When I did this, I had to install some new drivers, which I figured out by putting in my ASUS driver cd and then from device manager I would search the ASUS driver cd for correct drives.
(The ASUS Driver CD wouldn't work, it would tell me my operating system (obviously) wasn't vista, so I had to use the driver folder in it manually)
So, I can connect to password-less wireless perfectly, like my neighbors, but my work's pass-worded network it says connected but I can't actually go use the internet. Same with when I plug in Ethernet, it will tell me I'm connected but no internet.
I read around the internet and it said it has something to do with drivers. I tried downloading 64x versions of my drivers but I had difficulty using and installing them,
Here are my Network cards:
Atheros AR928X Wireless Network Adapter
Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)
Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI) (Pretty sure bluetooth doesnt relate to my internet but whatever)
Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.20)
