Windows 7 OEM Disc Not Recognized?

Jan 24, 2012

I'm currently looking to replace XP with windows 7 on my old PC, one so I can use it as a media centre for my TV and it should improve the performance of my machine a little.

The problem I have is, I bought a copy of windows from my local computer store, they've given me an OEM copy (not sure if this matters) and when I put it into the DVD drive it accesses for a coupe of minutes then nothing happens.

I have read that there's a lot of issues out there with windows 7 & installs and I guess I want the easiest way to get around ths issue.

What I've tried:
1. restarting the PC with the disc in it but it just booted XP from the hard drive
2. changed my bios setting to boot from DVD and restarted. The couple then hangs on a black screen for around 20 minutes and then boots XP.
3. tried opening disc in "my computer" but no files are visable, so I can't select the setup file
4. I have checked the DVD drive is working fine and it will even recognise my other copy of windows that was provided with my new PC, however I get an error along the lines of "incorrect installation disc select correct installation disc and select custom install".
5. I tried the OEM disc in my new PC and its recognised, so disc is fine
6. I checked compatibility using windows upgrade advisor it seems to say I have no conflicts and can either use 32bit or 64bit
7. I also download CPU-Z and checked that the processor is 64bit compatible and supposedly it is.

The only thing I can think of is to do a full clean install so format my harddrive and install, I'm happy to format the drive as I've backed everything up, however I've installed operating systems for years and never had this many issues. I'd prefer not to have to disconnect harddrives but if I have to then I will. I just don't see a reason why I should have to go that far to install an OS.

Windows 7 Installation Disc Not Recognized

Jul 15, 2012

To start off, I've been having massive problems with my current laptop. Mainly just the OS which started going wonky after a Microsoft update about a month back. Ever since, I've had to deal with slowness, lagginess and many errors. After trying to fix these things manually, such as updating, removing old files I don't need as well as programs, I had to eventually give in and do a system restore. And this is where my other problem begins. For one reason or another, the previous restore points I had are mysteriously gone. I only had one from around 2 days ago. All the ones I had from as far back as a month are history. Why I do not know. I usually check up on that to make sure I have one from way back. Perhaps I may have deleted them without knowing. So much to that.

I really want to do a complete reformatting or system installation. A clean one. However, my DVD drive doesn't recognize or acknowledges any of my OS discs. None of them. And they're all purchased from Microsoft. Not even the ones that came with my laptop are working. All other discs work. Such as DVD's as well as regular CD's. I updated the DVD drivers and still nothing. I tried Fixit and still nothing. I don't get why it only does this with the Microsoft installation discs.Currently, I am using Windows 7 Ultimate on a Dell Precision M4400. 32bit. The DVD/CD is a Toshiba TSST corp DVD+RW TS-U633A. I already tried cleaning the DVD drive as well as making sure all the installation CD's have no signs of damage. And they don't.

Windows 7 Upgrade Disc Not Recognized By Dvd

Sep 12, 2010

Bought an Windows 7 home premium upgrade disc for my Vista home premium pc, duly went and downloaded the upgrade advisor program before opening the package and it told me that my computer was a-ok to run windows 7 and upgrade, so I opened the package and put the dvd in my laptop's drive. It makes a whirring noise, then sticks, if I click on the drive it tells me to insert a disc and ejects the windows 7 dvd. This is the first and only DVD that has ever behaved like this, all others work.

Operating Disc Isn't Recognized And Password Isn't Working

May 19, 2011

I was trying to open .pdf files last night and they weren't working. My task bar showed that there was an update to adobe so I downloaded it, restarted the computer and went to bed.

I got up this morning and the password screen was up. I tried to input the password and it said it was wrong. One weird thing is it's not giving me the option to click on my password hint, which I always create. I have not been able to get past the password.

I found my operating disc and put that into the drive, restarted the computer and nothing. The password screen still shows up exactly the same, no hint, password doesn't work and nothing happens when I try to use the disc. I've also tried F11 at start up and nothing there either.

Resolution Not Recognized - HDMI Connection Not Recognized?

Sep 29, 2012

I have a Zotac 570 gtx connected via HDMI cable to my Asus VE258 LED monitor.I've had this video card and monitor setup working before with the exact cable, card and monitor.Something changed in my system where the monitor is no longer recognized for what it is. When i go into my Nvidia control panel under change resolution 1.Digital Display, 2. DVI-PC Display - Resolution 1080p 59 Hz. There is no DVI cable plugged into the computer and the monitor is set on HDMI input. When i go to my Audio playback devices, the HDMI connection does not show up at all, even as disabled or disconnected. When i go to play a game (Diablo 3, Skyrim, Farcry2) The game either doesn't open (skyrim) giving me the error that resolution is not recognized (but then does not give me any resolutions to choose from in the options menu) or will play (Diablo 3) but is stuck on extremely low resolutions with only 2 options.

Here's what i've done. Contacted Zotac and had them send me the most recent drivers for the video card. Uninstalled originals and re-installed the new ones. Contacted Asus (they say its not the monitor as long as its set on HDMI input) I am unable to find a driver that will make my computer (Windows 7) recognize the monitor for what it is. Zotac failed after their attempt with the driver and told me to RMA the card. So i did... i waited a month.

Boot Manager Missing When No Disc In Disc Drive?

Oct 13, 2011

So I have an bit of an odd and I think unique problem (as many searches came up with no solutions). Simply put, my boot manager is missing, but only when my windows install disc is not in the disc drive. It started several months ago and I just left it be, let the disc it int he disc drive and it was not that big of a deal. But just did a clean install couple days ago I re-installed windows 7 ultimate 64-bit on my computer (using an upgrade disc if that makes a difference).I formatted the drive with what I guess is a quick format (the option the install disc gives you). I have tried doing a repair with the install disc but no problems are found every time I try.

USB Device Not Recognized In Windows 7?

May 24, 2012

I am trying to connect a Blue Snowball USB Microphone to record stuff with but when I plug it into the USB port it doesn't work. Windows recognizes the device and starts trying to install the drivers but then it fails and gives no explanation. In Device Manager it shows up as "Blue Snowball" but has a yellow exclamation point next to it. When I click on it and try to install drivers it says that there are no drivers available. The light is on the device so it's getting power. I checked their troubleshooting guide and turned the USB cord in the other direction. I've restarted my computer a few times, all to no avail. I am using USB 2.0 ports and my OS is Windows 7 - Professional 32-bit.

I consider the sound card but I can play music and use skype (if I connect a 3.5mm POS microphone to the back) just fine.

After Upgrade To Windows 7 CD-ROM Not Recognized?

Dec 6, 2012

I've purchased a used Dell Precision 490 'born' June 2006 and 'driven only on Sundays.' The seller upgraded it for me from XP to 7 before shipping. (The genuine Windows 7 DVD was sent along with it.) The CD-ROM (TSSTcorp CD-RW TS-H292C ATA Device) is not recognized. The DVD drive works fine. The seller says the CD drive worked fine before with XP. When the computer boots up and also when restarted, the CD drive is listed as E: under "Computer" and also in the Device Manager. It does respond to a right click on E: to open the tray. When any of several CDs are run, the 'doughnut' spins for 5-8 minutes resulting with "E: refers to a location that is unavailable..." Or using the Task Manager to exit causes a gray out with "Computer not Responding." Then E: is no longer listed under Computer or in the Device Manger. The CD tray will not open.

With the CD inside it takes 5-8 minutes for the computer to shut down or restart. The CD tray can only be opened when the computer is first (re)starting. Without the CD inside start up is within 60 seconds. Using the Device Manager to update, the response is 'The best driver for your device is already installed.' Following Windows 7 troubleshooting, I've also uninstalled and rebooted to reload the driver. Checked the cables disconnecting and reconnecting the CD drive and mother board. Checked the registry for upper and lower filters (none were listed so none needed to be removed) and followed the numerous other measures listed in a thread, November 2, 2010... missing upper/lower filters registry cd/DVD - Microsoft Community Still unrecognized as above

Windows 7 On A CD (and USB As Well) Which Does Not Get Recognized On Laptop

Jul 21, 2012

I have windows 7 on a CD (and USB as well) which does not get recognized on my laptop (Samsung NP RV520). I can boot from both successfully on 2 other machines. My boot order is cd, usb, hdd .When I insert windows7 cd, it is ignored and I get the choice to start the existing win7 installation in normal or safe mode or repair. (I have succesfully booted XP and I'll try Ubuntu tomorrow as well.)When I insert windows7 usb, computer freezes on the "Starting Windows" screen with logo. The existing installation of windows 7 freezes on the login screen, no matter what mode I use. It takes about 15-30 minutes for it to get to the login screen (and then it freezes) or it freezes before and shows a blank black screen, for hours.I did install UBCD (Ultimate Boot CD) and tried to use boot managers from there, but all of them gave errors when I tried to boot from the windows 7 cd/usb, or the cd/dvd/usb did not get detected at all. [code] I also booted miniXP from Hiren CD successfully and ran a bunch of diagnostics tools. GMER showed 5 results in rootkit/malware, but I'm not sure how to interpret them.Do these issues sound like something a virus in boot sector or MBR could do? That's a hunch I have, but I'm not a techie so I don't know.windows 7 was reinstalled at a service, and same problems started after a few days again.

Windows 7 ATI Graphics Card Not Recognized?

Nov 23, 2011

I have recently had some video issues with my HP Probook 6550b.

Basically, I have recently had the heat sink, motherboard and monitor all replaced. My ongoing issue is that now Windows does now not recognize my on board ATI graphics card. If I install the drivers from the ATI website it does not acknowledge that the adaptor exists at all. Conversely, under Device Manager, no display adaptor is listed.

I have also installed the 64 bit BIOS update and graphics drivers from the HP website with no success. Interestingly, If I attach an external monitor, reboot and enter BIOS. I can close the lid, and the external VGA monitor works. However, when I then log into Windows and then try to use the secondary monitor, it does not work.

HP have informed me that as the external VGA out does work, it is not a hardware problem with the graphics adaptor. How do I go about getting this issue resolved? Currently, all video is jittery and the brightness is sub-standard.
