View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm not sure what happened, but this is a new one for me. I was using my mother's laptop and decided to create a new user account for myself. I thought this would be a way of avoiding her complaints and worries of me "messing something up" on her account, i.e., trying to improve her usage of the computer. That's a story for another day. After logging out of my account, I went to log back into hers and found the icon for my account and a blank "other user" icon. I attempted to enter her username (she had no password, at least not that she recalls) but the account pic that shows up in User Accounts doesn't show up and I was unable to log back into her account. I've tried changing my account status and hers, but nothing works.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to change the folder properties of a applications folder from read only. I am doing this per instructions from the apps provider to prevent crashes.
When I go to change the permissions it states I need admin privileges. The only account I have on the box is the admin however I did change the name to something besides admin. The account is definitely an admin account.
I noticed my laptop being slow and so I checked the active processes. Found an unknown process dllhost.exe using a massive portion of CPU. A friend of mine managed to locate file and alter it so that it was restricted to only the admin of the machine (me), along with another file below it (dllhst3g) was worried that this was some sort of infection that went unnoticed by my antivirus software which at the time was Stop Sign. Since locking files computer worked faster but have been unable to scan computer for infections as Stop Sign couldnt be update for unknown reason. Since then have been infected with virus which stopped me getting to cmd tool, task manager and changed desktop background. Started laptop in Safe Mode with networking, got a copy of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware which managed to find the problem and delete it. Then was advised to use Avast anti-virus and had no problems since. My main problem is that the 2 files are still locked off and I am wondering how important those processes are? Also, my primary concern is the sudden inability to perform administrator tasks. I am the only user on my laptop and am an administrator according to profile on Control Panel, but when trying to perform Microsoft Windows Update receive pop-up message saying: You need to provide administrator permission To complete this task, you need to log in as an administrator or ask an administrator to complete the task for you. One of the updates to be downloaded is Windows 7 Service Pack. gain admin privileges again and let me know how important the dllhost and dllhst3g files are and/or how to unlock them?

Not sure if it was a virus, spyware, or hacker, but something wiped out all of the passwords in windows 7 professional. I am signed in with a standard user account with no password. I've attempted to use different software such as <software name removed>, and password pro to retrieve passwords, but neither of them can find the SAM or any accounts with passwords. This system is on a peer to peer network and is being used as the server. Is there anything I can do to get admin rights back and get logged in as the administrator?

There are a few programs that I would like to run automatically when windows starts that require a password EVERY time I start windows, or if I select them manually. Is there any reason certain programs due to their permissions need an admin password to run and other don't?
I could not find the difference looking in the security section of properties comparing it with a program that runs as an admin. HELP! I would like to run these programs automatically as windows boots without typing in the admin password for each program.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently created a password and have regretfully forgotten it. I have no windows 7 disk and no other users on my laptop. I have not setup any password reset options i.e. system restore disk etc.
How can I restore my computer or just change my password?
I have Windows 7 32-bit(official RTM, clean install) only 1 account on it which of course is Admin.Sometimes when I press the Windows button + l to lock the screen and come back after a few minutes, enter the password but Windows 7 reports it as wrong password all the time. I have had the same password for 3 years so I know for sure I entered it correctly all in lower case. Also, if I deliberately try to enter a wrong password when my normal one doesn't work, I get the white round circle indicating that its being processed. Then after like 3 minutes, Windows 7 reports it as being the wrong password (the correct behavior from Windows 7 would have been to reject the the wrong password immediately). So I have to do a manual shutdown as it's the option left. I have tried to reinstall Windows 7 many times but this problem just keeps happening randomly.

View 1 Replies View RelatedLost administrator password on windows 7. I must have accidentally mistyped my admin PW when trying to change it. I don't want to get locked out completely. I do not have a back up or restore/repair disc. Is there any way around it besides using the disc, or USB, or complete reinstall? Just wiped the HD and had to start over so don't really want to do that again. My personal account is just fine and I can access that. However, without admin pw, I am very very limited.
