I have a Windows 7 installation disc that I created. It has worked in the past because I have Windows 7 running on this computer now. I wanted to reformat but disc is not booting. Have gone into Bios and checked that, 1 as DVD, 2 as HDD no probs seemingly there. I have also tried it on another laptop with the same result.

I have 2 laptops. One, a Sony Vaio has a working Windows 7 home premium OA 64 bit. And another Toshiba Satellite that HAD Windows 7 home premium OA 64 bit. The hard drive in the Toshiba went fubar and is unrecoverable. None of the sectors are readable except the partition table and SMART says that drive failure is imminent. I installed a new blank hard drive in the toshiba.Can I use my Vaio Windows 7 to get this Toshiba Windows 7 working somehow? I created a repair disc on my Vaio but I don't know what to do next for the Toshiba. No the Toshiba does not have any backup recovery disks made from it but I can make whatever discs with my Sony Vaio. I have not done system recovery on windows since the old NT days. It looks like MS made this harder than it was. All I had to do was use my install disc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit. I recently burnt some files to dvd disc on my pc and they played back fine on mine and a Vista pc.
However, now if I burn files to a dvd disc using any program or Windows Explorer drag/drop the pc does not recognise the disc when ejected and then re-inserted, it just does nothing if I click on the Dvd drive. It doesn't argue about inserting a disc or an error on playback, its just as if the drive is inaccessible, not there. The burnt video files play fine from disc before ejection.
However, if I then insert that disc into my old Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit machine, everything is hunky dorey fine, disc is readable and prompts to auto play cideo files. I have no issue with it. Put it back into Windows 7 and again nothing.
So, the dvd disc is created in Windows 7, plays ok until ejected and then will only play on my old Vista Home Premium machine. I thought maybe session wasn't closed but as far as can see it is.
Most perplexed! I burnt the files ot dvd to sent to a friend who has Vista but has also tried a Windows 7 laptop so am completely stumped. This process worked fine just mere weeks ago for us, I am doing nothing different.
My devices show no sign of problems. Normal shop bought DVD plays on my pc fine so I know the drive is good!
I installed win 7 Pro on a new build: Gigabyte GA-P55-UD7 + i7875 + 8Gb Crucial DDR3.Made system backup and created System Repair Disk. A few days later (and a few backups later as various software loads were made) the system crashed while I was attempting to email photos from Picasa via its link to Outlook 2007 Screen went blank and on restart neither normal nor repair start worked (latter recycled to POST continuously).So, got out the repair disk, made by this system earlier - and after keyboard choice it tells me that the "repair disc created by win 7 64 bit not compatible with this system".
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a new Dell Inspiron 620MT with Windows 7 and have just run the Setup procedures. This included the creation of 3 DVD's for Recovery Disks. My hard drive has 33 GB of content as delivered, including Microsoft Office Home and Business and several "freebies" Dell includes. The setup told me my 3 DVD's include 10.88GB, I "think" but am not sure Setup told me it was using compression to load the DVD's. What is the content of these 3 DVD's? I've called Dell multiple times and get conflicting, contradictory and changing answers to my question? I am wondering if it is ONLY Windows 7 or is it some partial or complete set of everything on my hard drive? Unrelated, Dell support sent me a flash drive of Windows 7 restore software that is "bootable." I looked at it and it contains only 4GB. That is why I am thinking there may be more content on the 3 DVD's 10.88 GB. I simply want to know what I have as a base in the way of backup BEFORE I migrate everything from my 7 year very old Dell Dimension 3000.

He created a password for his user account, and when he went to login during his next session, the password didn't work. The 'Create Password' field had two entry boxes, so the probability of an error in the password is quite small. I have tried various password reset/recovery programs, but when I boot with the program, the user account is not displayed. Thus, I cannot reset or recover the password. Booting in Safe Mode has been tried, but it also requires input of the user's password. Booting to the last safe configuration doesn't help, as there is nothing (apparent) wrong with the actual system.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI had to replace my hard drive in my computer and did so, re-installing all of the necessary drives and components, and when attempting to create a homegroup using the new "computer" (old tower with the new 2TB drive and reinstalled windows, etc) it is telling me that the old "computer" (the drive that crashed) has the password for the homegroup, but OBVIOUSLY I cannot access that "computer" because the drive crashed. How do I delete the homegroup that was created by the dead and therefore inaccessible computer and create a new one with the new computer?

Ever since, I've had to deal with slowness, lagginess and many errors. After trying to fix these things manually, such as updating, removing old files I don't need as well as programs, I had to eventually give in and do a system restore. And this is where my other problem begins. For one reason or another, the previous restore points I had are mysteriously gone. I only had one from around 2 days ago. All the ones I had from as far back as a month are history. Why I do not know. I usually check up on that to make sure I have one from way back. Perhaps I may have deleted them without knowing. So much to that.

I tried this previously and ended up with a dual booting system. Trying to remove the old Windows 7 installation and format that disc created much trouble so now I'm starting again, how to: Install Windows 7 on the new SSD disc (I'm assuming this will work ok as I've done it before), Have the system recognise only the new Windows 7 installation at boot & not the old Windows 7 installation so I don't have to select which OS to use, Reformat the old Windows 7 disc and remove any boot references that it might hold.

Now I would like to some how recover this computer to it's factory settings, to wipe all installed programs and files, but I would prefer not to be downgraded back to Vista. Is this possible?

my computer has Windows XP 32-bit, and i'm trying to do a clean install to Windows 7 64-bit. this is my processor. i'm assuming it can take the 64-bit version. i boot from the disc, press any key, and all the files load and whatnot. i see a screen that says "starting windows", and the logo appears. i figure that's a good sign. but...after that, i get stuck on a screen with nothing but some "desktop wallpaper" and my mouse. it just sits there. i can move my mouse around, but no installation options pop up. i bought the upgrade version of Windows 7, and i'm under the impression that you should be able to do a clean install using those discs. i stuck the 32-bit disc in my drive, and the install menu showed up no problem. but i want to install the 64-bit version.
View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer ended up with the malicious toolbar iminent. After multiple attempts to remove it I decided to reformat the computer, since my last backup is mercifully recent. However, when I attempted to run a repair disc, but in the middle of this I received the message in the thread's title. What's wrong? Is the repair disc something other than the disc I need? While writing this via my phone I'm currently trying an alternative of restoring my computer from a system image on my backup drive, I don't know if that will solve the problem. But even if it does, I think I should still try to find out what went wrong here for when something goes wrong in the future.

Or is it safer to burn a CD from the original ISO file? Wouldn't the 'exact copy' option have higher chances for data corruption, especially since it is a boot/installation CD?

My cd/dvd drive cannot read the disc. You can here the drive attempting to load up the disc but to know success. I have tried Microsoft Fix, does not work (however, it has in the past as well as booting from disc at startup-that too has worked in the past), I have tried booting from the cd/dvd drive on bootup, I have attempted to go into the registry and delete lowers installers I think its called (I didnt do this on previously installation attempts and I installed fine). I have all correct drivers according to my laptop, plus I've gone into the packard bell website to download the correct drivers and I have used windows update too in case I am missing anything. Nothing is working.

If you still do not understand what I mean, I'm confused on how will the OS, during installation, gather the information when there's no CD inside to read from?
My second question would be, which one of the versions (Home, Professional, Ultimate) is the best for GAMING? I have no need for security, but anything that would make my games, internet, etc run smoother would be of use.

View 8 Replies View RelatedIm attempting to upgrade from vista 32 to windows 7 on an hp compaq presario cq60 with and AMD athlon Dual Core @ 2.10ghz. When i place the windows disc into the dvd drive nothing much happens. It makes a few noises then nothing. It's an optiarc dvd rw drive which otherwise seems to be working fine. I've already used the 32 bit and 64 bit discs to upgrade on my two other machines so i know there isnt a problem with them. I have checked that the drive is first in line for booting the machine but to no avail.

I've tried a myriad of repair options with no success, and am now trying a burned repair disc from another windows 7 64bit computer. I boot from the disc, and everything is fine. I hit the first 'next' button. When it reaches the second menu screen that's supposed to show your OS, it just doesnt load. The cursor becomes a little blue circle that shows its loading, but never does. I left it there for at least 10 hrs to no avail.
