The new computer will not read any of the discs that created using the windows vista. View 9 RepliesI have 2 laptops. One, a Sony Vaio has a working Windows 7 home premium OA 64 bit. And another Toshiba Satellite that HAD Windows 7 home premium OA 64 bit. The hard drive in the Toshiba went fubar and is unrecoverable. None of the sectors are readable except the partition table and SMART says that drive failure is imminent. I installed a new blank hard drive in the toshiba.Can I use my Vaio Windows 7 to get this Toshiba Windows 7 working somehow? I created a repair disc on my Vaio but I don't know what to do next for the Toshiba. No the Toshiba does not have any backup recovery disks made from it but I can make whatever discs with my Sony Vaio. I have not done system recovery on windows since the old NT days. It looks like MS made this harder than it was. All I had to do was use my install disc.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64bit. I recently burnt some files to dvd disc on my pc and they played back fine on mine and a Vista pc.
However, now if I burn files to a dvd disc using any program or Windows Explorer drag/drop the pc does not recognise the disc when ejected and then re-inserted, it just does nothing if I click on the Dvd drive. It doesn't argue about inserting a disc or an error on playback, its just as if the drive is inaccessible, not there. The burnt video files play fine from disc before ejection.
However, if I then insert that disc into my old Vista Home Premium SP2 32bit machine, everything is hunky dorey fine, disc is readable and prompts to auto play cideo files. I have no issue with it. Put it back into Windows 7 and again nothing.
So, the dvd disc is created in Windows 7, plays ok until ejected and then will only play on my old Vista Home Premium machine. I thought maybe session wasn't closed but as far as can see it is.
Most perplexed! I burnt the files ot dvd to sent to a friend who has Vista but has also tried a Windows 7 laptop so am completely stumped. This process worked fine just mere weeks ago for us, I am doing nothing different.
My devices show no sign of problems. Normal shop bought DVD plays on my pc fine so I know the drive is good!
I have a Windows 7 installation disc that I created. It has worked in the past because I have Windows 7 running on this computer now. I wanted to reformat but disc is not booting. Have gone into Bios and checked that, 1 as DVD, 2 as HDD no probs seemingly there. I have also tried it on another laptop with the same result.

A few days later (and a few backups later as various software loads were made) the system crashed while I was attempting to email photos from Picasa via its link to Outlook 2007 Screen went blank and on restart neither normal nor repair start worked (latter recycled to POST continuously).So, got out the repair disk, made by this system earlier - and after keyboard choice it tells me that the "repair disc created by win 7 64 bit not compatible with this system".

I have three other hard drives on which all the program and other files were created under Vista 32 bit. I know I can transfer the files which are installed on my Vista boot hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer, but when I am running Windows 7 will it recognise all the programs and files on the existing drives if I just leave them there?

Now the 2x Win Vista PC are on separate networks: Network 2 & Network 3. The Vista Network 2 PC can no longer see or use the printer, which is cable attached to the Network 3 Vista PC. Seems like the Win 7 installed new, separate networks for the existing Vista PC's. The network hardware is: Comcast modem > Dynex router > Cisco ethernet switch > 3 PC's. I did not change any network connections, hardware or software on the Vista PC's. I simply removed the Win XP PC, and replaced it with Win 7 PC on that network cable.

My hard drive has 33 GB of content as delivered, including Microsoft Office Home and Business and several "freebies" Dell includes. The setup told me my 3 DVD's include 10.88GB, I "think" but am not sure Setup told me it was using compression to load the DVD's. What is the content of these 3 DVD's? I've called Dell multiple times and get conflicting, contradictory and changing answers to my question? I am wondering if it is ONLY Windows 7 or is it some partial or complete set of everything on my hard drive? Unrelated, Dell support sent me a flash drive of Windows 7 restore software that is "bootable." I looked at it and it contains only 4GB. That is why I am thinking there may be more content on the 3 DVD's 10.88 GB. I simply want to know what I have as a base in the way of backup BEFORE I migrate everything from my 7 year very old Dell Dimension 3000.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI desided to reformate my computer, farly new computer and windows 7. so im using the 3 recovery disc that I burned when I first got the computer. so now i deside to reformate, started reinstalling...it went through disc1, when it asked for recovery disc 2 (at around 50% of installing) I put it in and it just spits it back out and doesnt want to read it, now im stuck the computer wont even boot up fully (wont boot to desktop, however I can access the bois?I think either when I copied the disc it didnt get copied right (disc2)because disc1 worked fine) or something is just wrong with the disc 2 dvd (has no scratches on it though) but im stuck how can i get it to work or even get windows to start back up to the desktop?

View 7 Replies View Relatedodd prob with disc read error. So about once a month my cpu has a disc read error,this will last about a week as I try everything to fix it. Then, out of no where, runs perfect. Last time this happened, I thought I would think ahead and installed another copy of windows 7 on a D: and test it. ran perfect. So this time it happened, I tried to boot off D: and same problem, disc read error, reboot.Disconnected my C: drive and same prob with new windows install. I have tried windows install disc and recovery disc along with all utilities and full backup disc image. Still nothing... then just when I give up, It runs fine. it seems to stay glitchy the first few reboots but then works perfect for about 1-3 months

My cd/dvd drive cannot read the disc. You can here the drive attempting to load up the disc but to know success. I have tried Microsoft Fix, does not work (however, it has in the past as well as booting from disc at startup-that too has worked in the past), I have tried booting from the cd/dvd drive on bootup, I have attempted to go into the registry and delete lowers installers I think its called (I didnt do this on previously installation attempts and I installed fine). I have all correct drivers according to my laptop, plus I've gone into the packard bell website to download the correct drivers and I have used windows update too in case I am missing anything. Nothing is working.

I tried a different disk, and yes it worked. I also tried putting the Windows 7 disk into my friends computer, and it showed up. I have tried many different things, and nothing works. I upgraded from windows vista about a year ago, but I have yet to install a game with the use of disk, The problem is, when I put the disk in the DVD/RW drive, ...nothing happens.
The only time something really happens , is when it shows the DVD ROM thumbnail, but when I Open it up, it either freezes my computer, or It shows nothings in the file.
I have tried running it through the run application, and it gives me a notice that the file is corrupted. I have tried using this game in my other computer and it works fine..
Sitting here in class and our professor was telling us admin it disabled by default in Vista/Windows 7 now for security reasons. I mentioned you can access it from a command prompt based program that comes in a bootable iso format you burn on disc.
I can not for the life of me remember what the name of that program was but a couple years ago I was working on a Win Vista system that got a virus that locked out the user by changing the user account passwords.
We Googled, found this program you burn on a CD and it brings up a menu that will allow you to reset the user account password, or log into the admin account.
I'm having the same issue though, and to every suggestion I still cannot get in. The only difference is my HDD is not partitioned. Even if i go into the BIOS and change it to boot cd first because i have a vista dvd in there it still gives me a read disc error.
I upgraded to 7 with student upgrade discount downloaded fyi.
All of my specs are in my profile ( i think, first time so yeah. )
The things that i've tried are:
Plugged my HDD into a friends computer, was able to access all the files.
Changed Sata ports
Changed Sata cables
Tried booting from CD.
BIOS for starting order.
my dvd does not quickly read disc. It takes time, you have to load and eject for several times before it can read the disc. the disc will spin and then stop. what is the possible problem.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI had Vista Ultimate installed for a long time on my PC, and just today bought the student upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. The download went fine, and I selected the custom install, since it couldn't upgrade from Ultimate.
The setup screen appeared, and it extracted the setup files, and then reboot my computer. Right after my bios boot screen, I got the message "disc read error - press ctrl alt delete to reboot."
I did order the disc backup so I'll be getting that in the mail eventually, but what went wrong? Everything appeared to be normal right up to this point, and I don't know how to solve it.
there is some seriously issue with my optical drive. When i put in any DVD inside it just have a sound "like the DISC is running" for 3 times and it stopped. I tried a lot of different disc. It doesn't read the Disc at all..

From what I've read, it is possible to do this using the upgrade disc, but not with the in place upgrade. Wondering if anyone could explain how to do a proper clean install using the upgrade disc. BTW, I am running the home edition of vista and would be going to home premium of windows 7 if that makes any difference.
you will need VISTA install disc and a windows 7 install disk..first upgrade XP to vista then upgrade XP to windows 7
