View 2 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, the transfer rate on my 2TB Western Digital internal hard drive has dropped through the floor. I'm not sure what has happened but when when I try to copy files on HD I'm only getting a maximum transfer speed of 4MB/second, which is abysmal. For example, as I write I'm doing a test copy of a folder (to another folder on the same drive) containing 90 gig of misc. files. Windows is reporting that this transfer will take around one day to complete!
I error checked the drive and it came up healthy, and in all other areas, it seems to be working fine. All these problems seem to have started since I decided to reformat the hard drive and reinstall Window, a job which I've done on this particular setup at least a couple of dozen times before with no problems at all. I must say though that installing Windows was SLOOOW this time though, a lot slower than normal, and I'd say it took about 3 times as long to do as normal.
My setup:
Hard Drive: Western Digital WD20EVDS-63T3B0
Motherboard: ASUS P6TD Deluxe BIOS rev. 0608 (latest)
GFX card Nvidia Quadro 3800
CPU: Intel i7 975
12 gb RAM
Windows 7 Home Premium x64
I have a windows 7 install disc (DVD) but am trying to install on an HP100 mini. The mini has no DVD drive and I understand I can get one but I have a USB HDD from which it will boot. Is there a way to move the DVD image to the HDD in such a way that I can boot from the HDD and do the install?
View 10 Replies View RelatedAfter doing a copy and paste, we have, on 3 occasions so far, found the copied data in an entirely different file. Twice data from a copy appeared in an excel spreadsheet and once a picture copied in facebook appeared in an email. The excel problem is very worrysome as it is our family budget. how this could happen? In the case of the excel events no paste operation was intentionally done.
View 5 Replies View Relatedi decided to just make an account here when regarding anything computer related in general. So my first thread i´m going to ask you geniuses what i might be able to do about this error i recently started getting when trying to install games.
First time it occurred was when i was trying to install borderlands 2. I manage to install the games, but this error keeps popping up along the way, and the game simply doesnt stop loading when a loading screen comes up.
I recently purchased Star Wars: The old Republic for windows.
I upgraded from windows vista about a year ago, but I have yet to install a game with the use of disk, The problem is, when I put the disk in the DVD/RW drive, ...nothing happens.
The only time something really happens , is when it shows the DVD ROM thumbnail, but when I Open it up, it either freezes my computer, or It shows nothings in the file.
I have tried running it through the run application, and it gives me a notice that the file is corrupted. I have tried using this game in my other computer and it works fine..
I'm having the same issue though, and to every suggestion I still cannot get in. The only difference is my HDD is not partitioned. Even if i go into the BIOS and change it to boot cd first because i have a vista dvd in there it still gives me a read disc error.
I upgraded to 7 with student upgrade discount downloaded fyi.
All of my specs are in my profile ( i think, first time so yeah. )
The things that i've tried are:
Plugged my HDD into a friends computer, was able to access all the files.
Changed Sata ports
Changed Sata cables
Tried booting from CD.
BIOS for starting order.
when i put in windows 7 disc the drive does not recognize it?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI had Vista Ultimate installed for a long time on my PC, and just today bought the student upgrade to Windows 7 Home Premium. The download went fine, and I selected the custom install, since it couldn't upgrade from Ultimate.
The setup screen appeared, and it extracted the setup files, and then reboot my computer. Right after my bios boot screen, I got the message "disc read error - press ctrl alt delete to reboot."
I did order the disc backup so I'll be getting that in the mail eventually, but what went wrong? Everything appeared to be normal right up to this point, and I don't know how to solve it.
i used to burn my movies on *** dvd but when i tried to do so as usual this message appears"windows can't read the disc in drive e .make sure that the disc in *** format that windows can recognize.if not formate the disc first" there is no format option and i used to use this type of dvds and it usually works and when i but *** dvd that i was burn before, windows read it easy but not the blank dvds of the same type.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI've just got a new PC and while trying to copy over files from my old computer, I keep getting various BSODs (codes 24, A and others). These happen either during copying files between harddisks, or just creating RARs on harddisks. I suspected the old harddisks first, but the errors keep popping up even after disconnecting the old drive and just working with the new one. So after reading around on the forums a bit, my guess are a faulty harddrive or RAM. I already ran a chkdsk /r /f on all drives. I also tried the Windows built-in memory check with the default settings, which didn't seem to turn up any errors. I will try Memtest86 next. However, it would be nice if anybody else could have a look at the dump files, maybe it's something else entirely?

I was transferring several 3GB files from one computer to another over a wired network. On one file, about 80% through, a message box came up saying there was a problem with the transfer. Two options: "Try Again" and "Cancel". Hit "Try Again", the progress bar finishes, and the file disappears from both computers. Search of entire hard drives finds nothing. What happened and why? Recovery software will probably not help me because both disks have been written to since the error.

View 9 Replies View Relatedodd prob with disc read error. So about once a month my cpu has a disc read error, this will last about a week as I try everything to fix it. Then, out of no where, runs perfect. Last time this happened, I thought I would think ahead and installed another copy of windows 7 on a D: and test it. ran perfect. So this time it happened, I tried to boot off D: and same problem, disc read error, reboot.Disconnected my C: drive and same prob with new windows install. I have tried windows install disc and recovery disc along with all utilities and full backup disc image. Still nothing... then just when I give up, It runs fine. it seems to stay glitchy the first few reboots but then works perfect for about 1-3 months

copying a file to a Web Folder in Windows 7.I am able to connect to the web folder and see the subfolders. I am able to copy a local folder to the web folder as well. The only I am facing is when I am trying to copy a file. I am getting the error 0x80070057(The Parameter is incorrect). I have checked with fiddler and it does not look like its a server side issue. And I have also tried stopping most of the services as I read on the net that having 'Kaspersky' enabled and running interfered with the I/O for webdav.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install Windows 7 onto my laptop as I want to do a clean install to wipe off everything and have windows freshly put on. My cd/dvd drive cannot read the disc. You can here the drive attempting to load up the disc but to know success. I have tried Microsoft Fix, does not work (however, it has in the past as well as booting from disc at startup-that too has worked in the past), I have tried booting from the cd/dvd drive on bootup, I have attempted to go into the registry and delete lowers installers I think its called (I didnt do this on previously installation attempts and I installed fine). I have all correct drivers according to my laptop, plus I've gone into the packard bell website to download the correct drivers and I have used windows update too in case I am missing anything. Nothing is working.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm facing some trouble installing windows 7 x64 build 7057
When i click "install now" button after booting from the DVD-Rom. I get an error at times stating that i need DVD/CD-Rom Device Drivers and it does not detect the harddrive. However if i wait a little while before clicking the "Install Now" button, i pass on to Licence Agreement page.
From there i get a choice to Upgrade or Custom Install. If i chose upgrade it gives compatibility issue report as i do not have any OS running on the Drive i wan to Install Windows 7 on.
When i chose Custom i get to choose a partition. I chose the Primary Drive C partition as this 120GB hdd has no windows installed (my regular 500GB HDD that has winxp and vista64 is physically disconnected through this process). The Partition 1 has 29.8GB free when formated. I start the installation on that
The first Step "Copying Windows Files" takes few seconds and reaches 100% without error
The Second Step "Expanding Windows Files" stays on 0% for around 5 to 10 minutes and returns an error:
"Windows Cannot Install Required Files. Make Sure all files required for Installation are available, and restart the installation."
After I click 'OK', it says on the Screen "The installation was cancelled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the installation process will not be saved."
I do not understand if this is my hardware related issue or do i have a bad DVD. My DVD seems to be loading up fine and files do copy around from it. The ISO i copied this from seems to be ok. Could someone explain why am I facing this error and how can I solve it?
I just recorded most of season 2 of the walking dead series yesterday. when i try to play the file in wmc i get the following message:
"Copying prohibited. The broadcaster prohibits this content from being copied. You can only play this content on the same computer on which it was recorded."
That is exactly what I am trying to do. Play it on the same computer I recorded it on.
for some reasons, while copying a 13 gb file over the network (accessed from servernamee$ to my C drive, the CPU usage is going close to 100%.
When I look at task manager, I see System using more than 30% of the CPU, SMC.EXE is using between 15% and 18%...
Does anyone have an idea why system is taking that much CPU?
I tried disabling the antivirus to reduce the SMC.exe process, without success..
