I am wanting to copy my application data file from my PC (Win 7 Prof 64)to my laptop(win 7 hope premium). I have autocad user info etc and other prog info which has been stored in the roaming profile which I need to access on laptop. I want the same autocad settings available on laptop
Can I simply copy across the entire roaming profile or will this cause problems
After doing a copy and paste, we have, on 3 occasions so far, found the copied data in an entirely different file. Twice data from a copy appeared in an excel spreadsheet and once a picture copied in facebook appeared in an email. The excel problem is very worrysome as it is our family budget. how this could happen? In the case of the excel events no paste operation was intentionally done.
I'm looking for a program to get all of my personal data organized. I know there are plenty duplicate file finder apps out there, but what are your experiences with them? I'd love to find one that will show me duplicate pictures, even if renamed. It would be even better if it easily allowed me to specify a directory to put all of the duplicates in...so they can be removed from a drive. I probably don't need to worry about other types of files, as it is just my photos that would have duplicates.
Have a Windows 7 computer with two 500Gb data drives (just files, no OS) that I would like to "merge" into a new 2Tb drive but keep everything on one partition. I know I can clone the drives onto two separate partitions of my new drive, and then do a partition merge and resize to fill up all the free space. Or I can turn on view hidden and system files and simply drag & drop the contents of both drives to my new one.
My computer crashes every time I transfer large amounts of data onto the D drive of my computer. There is no such problem with my C drive.
First detected this problem while I was transferring some data through LAN. This problem occurs even when I am copying data from my C drive to D drive. I was able to copy a 700MB file onto the drive.
I recently (~2-3 months ago) installed windows 7 on a brand new 1TB hard drive. This hard drive is broken into two partitions - C & G. Windows 7 is installed on C; and G is only for data storage etc. Here is the description of partition C from Disk Management:
Unfortunately, "System" is missing from that description. Somehow "System" ended up on hard drive L - an old 80GB IDE drive that has migrated from build-to-build. This drive has just started on the *hopefully* slow road to death. I decided to retire this drive when I discovered I couldn't securely erase it because it is the System partition (there is only one partition on this drive).
So, how I can relocate the system drive data to another drive (preferably C) in the safest way possible. I found a solution here: [URL]. But I don't want to copy the entire contents of L to a new drive, all I want is the data needed for booting, and to securely erase everything else on L. Looking around, it seems I may be able to boot from a Windows 7 repair disk and recreate the system files on C, but this seems risky and likely to require a full re-install if something goes wrong.
While trying to fix a problem with Java working properly, I discovered that when going to Documents and SettingusernameApp DataLocal, that the Application Data folder contains another Application Data folder, and it another, then another, etc. Each Application Data folder has a shortcut arrow marking it. When I open the Properties for the first one, and then select the Previous Versions tab, it displays a list of Application Data folders with a variety of datesWhen reading the help, it says that the previous versions are created by either System Restore or Backup. I have used System Restore only once, but I have never setup Backup at all.Since I have fixed the Java problem in both IE8 and Firefox, I thought that I would try the same with Opera by reinstalling it on itself, but the installer wasn't able to see the source file, and when using Windows Explorer I wasn't eitherPerhaps the only solution is a fresh clean install of the OS, but I'm not anxious to do so. Since it's not clear what caused the problem that exists, the new install may end up the same way.

When my Second Copy tried to copy all of other Application Data I get an error message that says will not copy. Really I am interested in coping only 1 copy of Microsoft Live Mail especially the contact info and the email not 10 copies like what seems to happen sometimes especially when I am using Windows to copy ML Mail from one disk to another without Second Copy.I went thru the Application Data "folders" in C drive and did not intend to delete the extra but that is what happened. I checked my email and there was no change.
I've just got a new PC and while trying to copy over files from my old computer, I keep getting various BSODs (codes 24, A and others). These happen either during copying files between harddisks, or just creating RARs on harddisks. I suspected the old harddisks first, but the errors keep popping up even after disconnecting the old drive and just working with the new one. So after reading around on the forums a bit, my guess are a faulty harddrive or RAM. I already ran a chkdsk /r /f on all drives. I also tried the Windows built-in memory check with the default settings, which didn't seem to turn up any errors. I will try Memtest86 next. However, it would be nice if anybody else could have a look at the dump files, maybe it's something else entirely?

I was transferring several 3GB files from one computer to another over a wired network. On one file, about 80% through, a message box came up saying there was a problem with the transfer. Two options: "Try Again" and "Cancel". Hit "Try Again", the progress bar finishes, and the file disappears from both computers. Search of entire hard drives finds nothing. What happened and why? Recovery software will probably not help me because both disks have been written to since the error.
So the problem is had a virus called the system check virus and started going through the manual process of getting rid of it. One part of it is making hidden folders, etc accessible and then renaming the virus files so it doesnt recognise them and they stop running. While in there i accidentally changed two of the folders names which had alot of characters so i mistook it for one of the virus files.I've since learned these are windows folders and needed. was hoping someone could post a screenshot or something showing what these folders are meant to be called so i can change them back.
copying a file to a Web Folder in Windows 7.I am able to connect to the web folder and see the subfolders. I am able to copy a local folder to the web folder as well. The only I am facing is when I am trying to copy a file. I am getting the error 0x80070057(The Parameter is incorrect). I have checked with fiddler and it does not look like its a server side issue. And I have also tried stopping most of the services as I read on the net that having 'Kaspersky' enabled and running interfered with the I/O for webdav.
My Application Folders has multiple coples that seem to keep replicating. I noticed this on a previous wWin 7 computer build. Is there an issues here for is this correct? Also, I want to move my ihone apps to another drive to free space. I'm running File|Library Organize and am copying the apps to a new drive, but don't thing that'll move them.
I'm facing some trouble installing windows 7 x64 build 7057
When i click "install now" button after booting from the DVD-Rom. I get an error at times stating that i need DVD/CD-Rom Device Drivers and it does not detect the harddrive. However if i wait a little while before clicking the "Install Now" button, i pass on to Licence Agreement page.
From there i get a choice to Upgrade or Custom Install. If i chose upgrade it gives compatibility issue report as i do not have any OS running on the Drive i wan to Install Windows 7 on.
When i chose Custom i get to choose a partition. I chose the Primary Drive C partition as this 120GB hdd has no windows installed (my regular 500GB HDD that has winxp and vista64 is physically disconnected through this process). The Partition 1 has 29.8GB free when formated. I start the installation on that
The first Step "Copying Windows Files" takes few seconds and reaches 100% without error
The Second Step "Expanding Windows Files" stays on 0% for around 5 to 10 minutes and returns an error:
"Windows Cannot Install Required Files. Make Sure all files required for Installation are available, and restart the installation."
After I click 'OK', it says on the Screen "The installation was cancelled. Any changes that were made to your computer during the installation process will not be saved."
I do not understand if this is my hardware related issue or do i have a bad DVD. My DVD seems to be loading up fine and files do copy around from it. The ISO i copied this from seems to be ok. Could someone explain why am I facing this error and how can I solve it?
I just recorded most of season 2 of the walking dead series yesterday. when i try to play the file in wmc i get the following message:
"Copying prohibited. The broadcaster prohibits this content from being copied. You can only play this content on the same computer on which it was recorded."
That is exactly what I am trying to do. Play it on the same computer I recorded it on.
WMC recording/playback and media/file sharing seems to work fine until I go to copy a file between drives, where one of those drives is currently using some of its i/o bandwidth to do media. The copy hogs the i/o bandwidth, doing nasty things to the real-time needs. How do I permanently tell Windows 7 x64 to do all [explorer] copies at a lower CPU and i/o (explorer.exe & system) priority and/or elevate WMC CPU & i/o (ehshell.exe?) and file/media sharing priorities a bit? The PC is up to date on patches/drivers and should be able to prioritize obvious applications.
Since WinXP I have a problem when I want to re-assign a file extension to another application (=the program which should be used when double clicking on a certain file in WinExplorer). This problem appears particularly when the old, current application is NOT existing any more! [code] So again is there a real easy way/tool of re-assigning file extension to new programs regardless of what crap stuff is currently existing in Registry for that file extension?
I have setup some monitoring software in an XP Virtual Application. More specifically I used the "Virtual Applications: The 'Invisible' Third Mode" method described here.
My challenge is that I need to access the applications database file, and save it to a location on the host computer. It seems to me that the only way to save files from the Virtual Application is through the program itself, and because the program hasn't been designed to save the database file (e.g.: there is no "File - Save DB" command) I am stuck.
If I had setup a Virtual Machine and then installed the software into it I would have the advantage of being able to access the guest file system, however I would not have been able to start my monitoring software whenever a user logs onto the computer.
Is there any way of accessing the host system of a Virtual Application?
I am trying to move one pst file from one laptop which has Outlook 2010 32 bit to another laptop which has Outlook 2010 64 bit installed, steps taken 1) Copied the pst file from the User/AppData/Microsoft/Outlook folder to usb. 2) Pasted the file from usb into User/Documents folder. 3) Tried to open the file in Outlook and I get the error that Outlook encountered errors while opening the file. Now how is that possible when the file is working perfectly in one laptop but when I copy and paste it into another it gets corrupted? Is it due to 32 bit to 64 bit outlook? I tried to repair it using scanpst and it brought back few mails?
I use Legacy to record our family genealogy. If, using Legacy I use "Open File" it lists the 5 application files I have available. However, using Explorer it lists just 1 of these 5 files. When I compare the properties of the file I can access with Explorer with one of those by access of Legacy, I notice that all settings are the same with the exception of ttributes on the Details tab: the former shows and the latter Question: Is this the problem? What does it mean? Is it important to have
I have Windows 7 and when attempting to download a .CSV file, I get the following:
"c:usersappdatalocalmicrosoftwindows temporary internet files.IE5WFRX915B1000_BronzeLeads_851CSV is not a valid Win32 application."
This is supposed to open in an Excel file. I can open it up on another PC, however. And I can also open up other Excel files on my PC except for this one.
In Firefox the home page is set to Google search by default. When I type in a search it works as expected. If however I try to modify the search in the same window a popup comes up saying "Application/json" is ready to dowloand a file, where do I want to save it? In fact multiple popups open (could be upto 10). It doesn't matter if you choose to download or not, nothing happens. It just keeps repeating the loop. What is going on and how to stop it? I'm getting no response from either Google or Firfox on this issue.
All of a sudden my computer after 1 hour freezes and crashes completely.I get a black screen of death with error code 0xc000000e Recovery Screen After i hit enter i got another message saying Your PC needs to be repaired. The application or operating system couldnt be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: Windowssystem32winload.exe Error code: 0cx000000e After the error happens and I restart, the main hard drive will not show up and I have to restart again for it to show up.SO i just went ahead and formatted the PC and reinstalled windows 7 from scratch. After an hour or less the same thing happened again and also when I reboot the computer asks me to choose which windows 7 I want to log into. Why is this showing up if I formatted the disc completely (Deleted and created New disc while i was reinstalling windows 7)My main drive is a Crucial m4 SDD 2.5 128GB Sata I have 4 other drives with over 2tb each but i use this for files. Windows is installed on just the crucial HD?
My Outlook 2010 installation has started displaying a dialogue box that my mailbox is over its limit and that I should consider coverting my data file to the new style MS Outlook 2010 data file which can handle larger file sizes.
problem either stopped on the usb data transfer from windows 7 PC to a usb HDD or flash drive; or crashed and give errors. However, i dont encount this sreious problem but rather annoying problem.
As soon as i use my Windows 7 PC to copy a file to usb stick, the process is all ok, but when i read the file, it seems to be corrupted, example, if i have put a avi file in the usb drive, it will play as skipped.
I have updated the hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/976972 but still doesnt fix my problem. I have updated the chipset driver from nvidia web site, still no help.
I know for sure that problem occured after i fresh installed to windows 7 from xp pro. I have also tried to uninstall the usb root hub but still give me the same driver as it was.
