Jul 15, 2010I have a Dell Vostro 1500, running 32-bit Windows 7. It came with Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 a couple months ago, which I think is causing the issues I'm experiencing. According to whoever I'm speaking with, the sound for the microphone built in to my webcam fades in and out and gets really loud randomly. In an attempt to solve this, I bought an external microphone which also does not work. The sound driver is the SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC, version 6.10.0.5614. When I tried to update it through Windows 7's update driver software it says I have the best version for my system, but I still suspect that this could be what is causing the problem.

Jul 27, 2009Okay. I am new to computers, I just hated vista with such wrath that I printed out everything ever to computers and updated to windows 7.
I had vista 32 bits, and all my drivers were working correctly when I upgraded to windows 7 32 bits. But I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 64x because I found out my computer has additional RAM that wasn't being used by the 32x OS.
When I did this, I had to install some new drivers, which I figured out by putting in my ASUS driver cd and then from device manager I would search the ASUS driver cd for correct drives.
(The ASUS Driver CD wouldn't work, it would tell me my operating system (obviously) wasn't vista, so I had to use the driver folder in it manually)
So, I can connect to password-less wireless perfectly, like my neighbors, but my work's pass-worded network it says connected but I can't actually go use the internet. Same with when I plug in Ethernet, it will tell me I'm connected but no internet.
I read around the internet and it said it has something to do with drivers. I tried downloading 64x versions of my drivers but I had difficulty using and installing them,

Operating Disc Isn't Recognized And Password Isn't Working
May 19, 2011I was trying to open .pdf files last night and they weren't working. My task bar showed that there was an update to adobe so I downloaded it, restarted the computer and went to bed.
I got up this morning and the password screen was up. I tried to input the password and it said it was wrong. One weird thing is it's not giving me the option to click on my password hint, which I always create. I have not been able to get past the password.
I found my operating disc and put that into the drive, restarted the computer and nothing. The password screen still shows up exactly the same, no hint, password doesn't work and nothing happens when I try to use the disc. I've also tried F11 at start up and nothing there either.
System Start Up Repair Not Working - Cannot Log On Using Password
Dec 22, 2011I shut down my computer by pressing the power button, the next day when I turned my computer (toshiba, windows 7) it said loading files and then went to start up repair, after a short while start repair said it couldn't fix the problem automatically, it said to click finish which would restart my computer, I've restarted my computer multiple times but it always comes up with the same thing.
I clicked on advanced options for system recovery and support and it comes up with language and key board inout which is all right, click next and it says to access recovery options, log on as a local user, to access the command prompt as well, log on using an administrator account, I've tried my computer account password using the administrator option but it doesn't work, the other options are ASPNET and SophosSAUNB-(my last name goes here). I've tried each option with my password and it doesn't work, am i supposed to use a special password? I don't know what to do.

May 12, 2012My brother recently bought a Dell laptop (Inspiron N5110). He created a password for his user account, and when he went to login during his next session, the password didn't work. The 'Create Password' field had two entry boxes, so the probability of an error in the password is quite small. I have tried various password reset/recovery programs, but when I boot with the program, the user account is not displayed. Thus, I cannot reset or recover the password. Booting in Safe Mode has been tried, but it also requires input of the user's password. Booting to the last safe configuration doesn't help, as there is nothing (apparent) wrong with the actual system.

Aug 12, 2011I have my audio source I have plugged into line in.If i right click on the speaker icon on the tooltray, and select 'recording devices' I get the recording window - there I see the "Line In" - the bar graph next to it pumps up and down suggesting my sound reaches the PC.I then double click on "Line In", click on the "Listen" tab, and click on "Listen to this device" - but I don't hear anything.Clicking on the speaker icon i select playback devices, and right click on speakers (I tried the same thing with headphones), and click 'test' I hear the test sound. May 19, 2009I just recently decided it was time to upgrade to Windows 7 x64 from Windows Vista x64. I downloaded the RC1 from windows.com and burnt it to a CD using ImgTool, all of that went smooth. I run the setup and it asks me if I want to upgrade, so I choose Yes, since I don't feel like losing all of my documents and such just yet. So about an hour and a few restarts later, it is on the final step which involves copying about 400,000 files over which seemed to be the longest step.
When it got to around 360,000 it came up with an error about "WerFault.exe" and it said something along the lines of "Error in line 0x000000, click OK to terminate program." that wasn't exactly what it said but it was similar. So I hit OK, and it pops up 2 more times for 2 other files that I forgot to write down.
After I hit OK for the other 2 popups, about 10 seconds go by and then it says "Windows cannot complete the Upgrade. Your previous settings will now be restored." so I hit OK and it erases all of the changes it has made.
I am unsure of why it is doing this for me, could it be because I am trying to upgrade? Or whats the problem?

Oct 8, 2012Recently, I'm assuming a virus or whatever made my system un-bootable. I have a Dell XPS 420 ... Windows 7 ... a single 500GB hard drive with three partitions.
- partition 1 - the OS, approx 250GB
- partition 2 - docs, approx 20GB
- partition 3 - other stuff, approx 230GB
I booted from the installation disc, and I tried everything imaginable to be able to boot up again, but was unsuccessful. So I made the decision to re-install windows, but before that, I wanted to copy everything off the hard drive onto a portable drive.Going into the command line tool ... I am able to read from the hard drive fine ... I copied everything from the first two partitions off to an external hard drive. No problem.HOWEVER ... the system is not recognizing, or not allowing me to see, the 3rd partition. I went into DISKPART and looked, and it does not have a drive letter assigned to it. I can't find it. Something I can do? Or is this part of the corruption of the disc that is preventing me from booting?if I re-install the OS on partition 1 ... will partition 3 be harmed and would I still able to see it in Windows when things are back to "normal"? If so, I won't worry about the previous question and I'll just re-install. But if not, I won't re-install until I can figure out how to get that data off the 3rd partition.

Aug 13, 2009I simply want to add the -nointro parameter to my BioShock game shortcut.
I go to the shortcut, then properties, but where I think it should be added, similar to what XP looks like, is greyed out (the word "BioShock").
What do I need to do? I'm new to Windows 7, coming from XP.
