Windows 7 Home Premium Can't Reset Password?
Jan 11, 2013I have a reset disk. I have Windows 7 Home Premium. I lost my administrator password, only one administrator account. I cannot find any button anywhere on the Welcome screen that I can click to 'reset password'. I cannot do it from the (limited) other user on the computer. I downloaded an Appliction called resetwindowspassword-set from 'download.cnet.com' and I cannot open the download because I do not have the administrator password.

Jan 22, 2012Performed system restore to factory point when I first recieved the computer. When windows starts, it states that it is rpeparing the system for first time use, however it will get to the welcome screen and prompt for a user name and passwordSystem restore never asked for a user name and password. I tried using the account information from when I setup the computer originally but it does not recognize the username. Also tried to type in administrator for the user name and it says the account has been disabledI have tried to setup user through the command prompt and through the registry using the windows recovery disk. When all this failed I contacted Dell and they said I disabled the admin account during restore (I would like to know how) and I would need the windows installation disk which were not included.

Oct 24, 2010My os is not working anymore, not working as in it takes forver to open anything, and it cannot be shut down through windows, had to press the power button to shut it down. This doesn't occur when I am using it in safe mode. I am able to post this because I installed ubuntu as an alternative os, long time ago ( just to use the open office, hehe). The only possible cause I can think of is that I accidentally cut the power by unplugging the adapter few days ago. After the incident, the fan is running very loud every time I turn on the laptop.I am using dell studio 1557.

Sep 24, 2011I have an HP 2175 All-in-One printer and I've lost the installation cd. I followed the instructions as provided by the support pages directly from HP. Few things happened. First, most of the features of the printer were not working, such as one-touch scanning. If I'd select print landscape, the document would come out portrait. I tried uninstalling, and doing a fresh install, and I've been getting under the control panel device list multiple copies of the HP2175 printer (Copy 1... copy 2.... etc).
I'd like to know, how do I remove the drivers fully, and try a completely new install again, how do I get all the features to work, and how do I get rid of the extra copies of the device?

I tried the roll back installation option and a message flashes on and off to quickly to read.

I'm perfectly happy to let the computer run for hours if that is what is necessary but the standard suggestion that warned about rebuilding the Index took about 2 seconds and was, of course, a complete failure.

When I choose UPDATE in the intallation dialog it tells me that I cannot upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home Premium ???
Every website from Windows and other people tells me that it IS possible and even the Windows 7 Update Advisor told me that I should not encounter any problems upgrading.
Has anyone of you yet encountered upgrading problems of compatible Vista/7 versions?
Or any other idea what I can do to solve the problem?!
I know that I can make a clean intall of 7, but this would be a pain..

Apr 17, 2012Yesterday I was messing around on my brand-new laptop, and I was stupid enough to try a keygen to get Ultimate (I had HP). Surprising. It worked but the copy wasn't genuine obviously. So then I rebooted, pressed F8 at boot. An ran Toshibas recovery to try to get the computer to its out of box state. I got stuck at initializomg (either that or I was impaptient) so I turned off the laptop. Then when I truer to boot I got bootmgr is missing. I have an old vista Hp disk so I installed that for the time being. So my question is, how do I get it back to the original state? I do t have any important data or anything.

Nov 2, 2009The original OS was Windows XP 32bit SP3. I upgraded this system to Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit SP2 with no issues.
I then went to upgrade the system to Windows 7 Premium. I chose the "Upgrade" install and not the "Clean" install. I've checked the updater to confirm that all my system information was adequate. I uninstalled the ATI Catalyst Controller, iTunes, etc. that it wanted me to. Oddly enough, the ATI Catalyst Controller was the most recent driver that supports Windows 7.
I checked online to see if the hardware was all supported by Windows 7. The Sapphire Vapor-X video card was not compatible or compatible... it simply wasn't on the list of either. The X-Fi Extreme Gamer said it was NOT compatible... yet, I had a driver for Windows 7 and the Windows 7 Application checker said that my sound card was ready for Windows 7... thus a discrepency.
I went on with the installation. I get to the last step where it resets the computer at 62% and I get a BSOD for about 1/3 of a second. It goes by too quickly for me to capture it. It then restarts the computer instantly with the result of "Upgrade was not completed successfully. Restoring prior OS yadda yadda". I've gone through this about 5 times now trying different things.. keeping the Catalyst controller installed, uninstalling the video card, removing the sound card, etc. Nothing seems to work.
It was recommended to me that I do a clean install... however, I have read that many others have done a clean install and theirs STILL doesn't get past the 62%.
Is it my hardware? Do I need to buy MORE hardware now that 7 is out that is on the compatible list?

Turned it on as normal, got to the log in screen where i click on the required user. As the pc is only used by me I only have 1 user availiable. I click on it like normal but this time i get a message saying 'The user profile service service failed the logon' 'user profile cannot be loaded'. It then refreshes the page and returns me back to the logon page and if i press enter the same thing just keeps repeating itself. Other option on this page are the shutdown/sleep/restart option and a little box in the bottom left corner called ease of access with various options, but none that seem relevant to the situation.

Jan 22, 2012I came to my laptop about five hours ago and have not been able to do anything with it since. I had it in hibernate and as I flicked the lid up it shut itself down - I assumed for updates. It hung on "Please wait" for about five minutes with the circle going round and round and round, then nothing, just the home page no user no password no log on. F8, repair, system restore, tried all points with errors:System restore failed to extract the file (C:) from the restore point.
