View 3 Replies View Relatedafter several days of cleaning up a clients laptop of around 150 viruses, i think it's now clean. But as always, viruses have effects after they have been removed, and in this case its that it has removed all the links to programs in the all programs list. All the folders are there, but no links inside them. I have been googling this for multiple hours and the only thing i have found is to restore them using a folder called 'smtmp', well this laptop doesn't have a folder by that name anywhere on the laptop. Also i have ran Unhide.exe.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI seem to have no program files and almost all my desktop shortcuts have disappeared..Also my Desktop background is gone and its just a black screen.
I have tried Viprescue, malware bytes and Mcaffe but they havent changed anything..
Recently was infected with a virus, which I removed with Kaspersky, but now all of my program folders are empty and / or missing when I hit Start -All Programs. I believe this is self-inflicted. I'm running Windows 7/64 on a Dell N7010 laptop. It has a OS (C:) drive (58.5GB) and a Local Disk (D:)drive (527GB). I originally found the "C" drive becoming full. Not being overly computer savy, I tried to move program files and any large files I could locate to the "D" drive. Everything seemed to work fine, until this virus. Now I believe the computer is reverting back to the original location of these files on the "C" drive, and I'm not sure on how to link them back to my All Programs menu.

For example her sage shortcut will not open as normal and opens up as if it should be a picture. The same goes for other links such as calculator in the start menu.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm wondering if it's possible to create or modify shortcuts that will open more than one thing. For instance I would like to open "tech overview" from my computer and it would open:
1: Control Panel
2: Manage Computer
3: System
4: Device Manager
And hopefully I would be able to add or remove things from the list to make it even more modified over time. Another example would be to open "my website" from my computer and it would open:
1: Explorer view of camera shot images
2: Explorer view of htdocs for the website
3: Explorer view of images directory
4: Explorer view of recent downloads
5: Dreamweaver
Just wonderin if there's anything i can do to stop a certain program appearing in the shortcut menu when you click on start.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've just bought a new PC which has Windows 7 installed so just finding my way about! My old PC was running XP and all my program shortcuts in the Quick Launch Toolbar had relevant icons on them. However, although some shortcuts I've put on my 7 QLT have appeared with the relevant icons, for instance FF and TB, 3 other programmes have just come up as blank cream coloured folders. So is there a way to get the proper icons instead of the blanks?

Also tried to restore computer from and earlier date, get an error message that says "System cannot start."
Using XP I had written a program that opened automatically on certain dates when the computer was first turned on. I have the same program but it doesn't open on Windows 7 on the dates it is program to open. I believe I was able to have the program set to open by enter "RUN" and select programs to be open on start-up. I can't find the same start_up procedure on Win 7.

View 3 Replies View RelatedSomething that has been bugging me, is that when installing a program, the setup wizards and their subwindows open in the background, rather than on top as is normal. Being absent minded, I will sit and wait for several seconds, until I get impatient and look at the taskbar to see new tabs, which I must select to bring the setup on top. How can I set the OS to always bring these on top by default?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've been recently getting the BSOD when I open almost any program, when I try to open it my display stops and I get the BSOD error STOP: 0x0000001E. The latest thing I would have downloaded with suspicion would be a game torrent. I've gotten a BSOD error STOP: 0x00000050 and error STOP: 0x0000001a, but mainly error STOP: 0x0000001E. I'm thinking that my RAM is corrupted, looks like its a memory problem. I'm currently in Safe Mode with Networking. Anyways, sorry for using Winrar, I didn't have 7-ZIP installed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently ran into an issue where this installation on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit is trying to open up all my programs in Word, they all have the MS word icon as well, so for instance, when I click on Nero, it will try to open it up in word and we get an error because it is not a word file. This is on all Program .exe files. There are no options to change the file association in the default programs in control panel. I have only seen a few fixes for this which involve the registry, I have checked these, however, all registry keys are correct. System restore fails as well, have tried multiple restore points to no avail. We have also ran norton, and malwarebytes on the system is it runs clean.

When I try to open a project folder in any of the programs I use it takes 2-3 minutes for it to load all the filesThere are just over 10,000 files in the folder, they are all small files (nothing larger than 100k), and on the XP machine it loads in an instant.I have done everything I can find online (turned off indexing, changed the folder prefs, etc) and nothing works. When I open the folder within Windows it loads in an instant, however when I try to open it within a program is when it dragsDoes anybody have any ideas of what else I can try outside of threatening the computer with physical violence? Also as you can tell by my screen name I'm a mac user that has to use PCs at work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have just gotten a new computer with Windows 7 Pro installed on it, and am going through the learning curve. I have two questions with respect to shortcuts that are created -- usually via the drag & "create shortcut here" option.
1. Is there a way to make the arrow smaller, or if not then is there a way to make it disappear? It is taking up about 1/4 of the icon picture.
2. Is there a way to not have the words "shortcut to" appended. I can always do a rename, but that is a bit of a bother.
All the shortcuts on my desktop are now opened by the windows photo and fax viewer.all has got 'lnk' to it. i tried to restore to previous state but i did not work out. if i need to open any program, i will have to go all the way to the program files to locate them before i could launch them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedUpgraded from 7048 to 7057 today. I have 2 LCD monitors running off a Nvidia 7800 GTX.
After it finished, all my desktop shortcuts were on the secondary monitor (left), and I can't move them to the primary monitor (right).
I can open programs and move them to either screen, and the taskbar will work on either screen. Gadgets work fine on either screen.
I can't create a shortcut or a new file on the primary monitor on the right.
I was using UltraMon 3.0.4, and tried uninstalling it, and installing an older version, with no improvement.
If I make the left screen primary, then I can create & move shortcuts to either screen. However, using UltraMon puts the taskbar & extended taskbar on the same (left) screen.
Booting into Vista 32 or Windows 7 64 shows both screens working ok.
