Possible To Create Shortcuts That Open More Than One Program Options
Nov 20, 2009
I'm wondering if it's possible to create or modify shortcuts that will open more than one thing. For instance I would like to open "tech overview" from my computer and it would open:
1: Control Panel
2: Manage Computer
3: System
4: Device Manager
And hopefully I would be able to add or remove things from the list to make it even more modified over time. Another example would be to open "my website" from my computer and it would open:
1: Explorer view of camera shot images
2: Explorer view of htdocs for the website
3: Explorer view of images directory
4: Explorer view of recent downloads
5: Dreamweaver

I tried to open a program using the open with option and it changed the icons for every program on my laptop. I changed the desktop (network, my computer etc) icons back to default but can't manage to change the others. If i go into properties for the program and change it that way it doesn't do anything.

THIS TUTORIAL INVOLVES:Docking program (tested on and Objectdock) Stack docklet (I use Stack Docklet For ObjectDock by ~arshi2009 on deviantART on both RD and OD) Link Shell Extension Please choose the appropriate version for your OS. 64-bit programs with troublesome shortcuts Since you're reading this, this author assumes that you already have Stacks docklet installed and have been using it for quite some time now. You are just annoyed why 64-bit program shortcuts give you error everytime you access it inside the Stack. Therefore, THIS TUTORIAL IS NOT ABOUT:Installing Stacks docklet Creating stacks 64-bit application shortcuts are not easy to tame, especially when you use Stack docklets to collect them in groups. Some may work (in my case, Photoshop has been friendly), but mostly they appear as this ugly icon:And when you click it, a dialog will popup to tell you that it can't be opened:A workaround to make 64-bit applications shortcuts operable in Stacks docklet was provided via Aqua-Soft forums. It wasn't their instruction that bugged me but the whole process of creating symbolic links, which involves using the command prompt and selecting a proper handle that is difficult to comprehend and a total pain to newbies like me. So for those having trouble with symbolic links, here's a tip to easily create them.
1) download and install Link Shell Extension. The software will add a context menu item.
2) Head to installation folder of the 64-bit program you'd like to include in Stacks docklet. (In this example, I will use 7-zip)
3) Right-click on the folder and select Pick Link Source
4) Create a folder anywhere. But I advise that this folder should contain symbolic links ONLY so they remain organized. (In my case, I put all my configurations on a separate partition, and my SymLinks folder is placed next to my Program Shortcuts folder so they're easier to reference in case I needed to change something).
5) Open that newly-created folder. Right-click anywhere, and select Drop As then Symbolic Link. (The item you just "dropped" will now appear in that folder and it has a green overlay icon to indicate that it's a Sym Link (for some reason, mine appears in blue. I'll work this out later). It will act as if it's stored there, but it only references the original folder you have "picked". You can open it directly from there and add, delete or edit contained files, and the changes are reflected to the original folder. So it's better to leave it alone unless you know what you're doing.)
6) Open the folder you just "dropped". Find the main .exe file that launches the program and create a shortcut for it.
7)This newly-created shortcut is what you should use in your Stacks docklet. After creating your docklet that include this shortcut, you should be able to see the proper icon of your 64-bit program and click on it.

after several days of cleaning up a clients laptop of around 150 viruses, i think it's now clean. But as always, viruses have effects after they have been removed, and in this case its that it has removed all the links to programs in the all programs list. All the folders are there, but no links inside them. I have been googling this for multiple hours and the only thing i have found is to restore them using a folder called 'smtmp', well this laptop doesn't have a folder by that name anywhere on the laptop. Also i have ran Unhide.exe.

On my desktop I have a few shortcuts that have the UAC Shield on them. I assume this means that you must have administrative privileges to run it (correct me if I'm wrong). If it's important for any reason, I am the administrator. How can I get rid of that pesky icon?

I have windows 7. I'm getting odd behaviour from my machine. I can only type in search boxes intermittently, other times when I press a letter the shortcut droplist comes on---"F" is find and so on. Only light on my keyboard is Num Lock, so I don't think it's a keyboard issue. When I left click shortcut to open IE(or any program), I get the, "do you want this program to make changes..." message, or I get the shortcut properties box, and if I move a shortcut, it makes a copy---"Computer 2."

Recently was infected with a virus, which I removed with Kaspersky, but now all of my program folders are empty and / or missing when I hit Start -All Programs. I believe this is self-inflicted. I'm running Windows 7/64 on a Dell N7010 laptop. It has a OS (C:) drive (58.5GB) and a Local Disk (D:)drive (527GB). I originally found the "C" drive becoming full. Not being overly computer savy, I tried to move program files and any large files I could locate to the "D" drive. Everything seemed to work fine, until this virus. Now I believe the computer is reverting back to the original location of these files on the "C" drive, and I'm not sure on how to link them back to my All Programs menu.

For example her sage shortcut will not open as normal and opens up as if it should be a picture. The same goes for other links such as calculator in the start menu.

I have been happily using Windows 7 Pro for a while now, but recently whenever I click on folders such as My Computer, My Documents, My Pictures or Recycle Bin etc, they flash open for a split second and then appear open on the bar at the bottom where open programs are. If I click the icon of the now 'open' folder, it flashes for a split second again (just like it did earlier) and then the process repeats itself!

What windows 7 maintenence program finds shortcuts you haven't used in a while. Last night I checked the little flag to see if any problems needed fixing and i can't for the life of me remember what it said but i launched it and it started checking for problem's it even told me what shortcut's i haven't used in a while. I did not let it finish checking as I have never seen this program in all the time I have had windows 7 and i have had it since it came out.

I've never had problems with my laptop or networking till today. I cant open the network list or options, I've tried going through the control panel but when I press "connect to a network" it wont load. And when I try to click the icon on the bar it wont pop up either. The only way I can connect to the internet right now is through plugging it straight to the modem since i have it set to auto connect, but I cant connect to the WiFi since the list wont show. I've ran a virus scan but it didn't bring up anything.
