I've never had problems with my laptop or networking till today. I cant open the network list or options, I've tried going through the control panel but when I press "connect to a network" it wont load. And when I try to click the icon on the bar it wont pop up either. The only way I can connect to the internet right now is through plugging it straight to the modem since i have it set to auto connect, but I cant connect to the WiFi since the list wont show. I've ran a virus scan but it didn't bring up anything.
My pc has been acting funny i ran the chkdisk wich begins when you boot up the pc. At some point i knocked the ac adapter out of my notebook without knowing it and it finally went dead in the middle of the chkdisk. It automatically rebooted and gave me the option to repair the harddisk using vista which i upgraded to 7 a couple of years ago and i would choose the the only other option which was start windows normally well every time i would do that win 7 would try to load and right before you get to ur user account icon where you type in your password the pc would reboot and start this same cycle over and over again. Nevertheless when it rebooted again i hit the fn keys like i was a receptionist typin 150 words a min and i think it might have been the f10 key but not sure and this is the list of options that popped up.
My rig uses a Centrino Advanced-N 6230 wireless mini half-card. It reports the correct name except within the wireless network list. Instead of 6230 it reports 6320. I searched the registry to see if I could find the error, but nothing found. It's only a nuisance, and a minor one at that.
I want to remove the Windows media player from the open with list. (When i right click on a video file i have a choice to choose a player,so i want to remove the Windows media player from that list)
I'm wondering if it's possible to create or modify shortcuts that will open more than one thing. For instance I would like to open "tech overview" from my computer and it would open: 1: Control Panel 2: Manage Computer 3: System 4: Device Manager
And hopefully I would be able to add or remove things from the list to make it even more modified over time. Another example would be to open "my website" from my computer and it would open: 1: Explorer view of camera shot images 2: Explorer view of htdocs for the website 3: Explorer view of images directory 4: Explorer view of recent downloads 5: Dreamweaver
I have received a new Dell Studio 1555 with Windows 7 64-bit pre-installed. I enjoy having both windows and linux for different reasons, so would like to install Ubuntu Linux and dual boot with windows 7. When I start my machine the Dell logo appears with options to open Setup F2 or Boot Option F12, when I try setup nothing happens and goes straight to booting windows and when I try to open boot open the system freezes.
I have tried pressing buttons many time and holding them, nothing just works.
I am unable to open "Computer", "Control Panel", "Devices and Printers" or any of the other options when I click on the start icon in the task bar. I receive the error message "Server execution failed" I have Windows 7 operating system.
So my laptop was working fine last night, woke up this morning and this issue appeared. I'm guessing it's a virus (stupidly, I haven't installed an AVP on this machine yet). Anyways, I can't open anything. Doesn't matter where I try to open the program or file from. The load icon appears but nothing happens. I also can't access the task manager or shut down/log off/etc. from the start menu, I get a "Failure to display security and shut down options" error msg. I'm in safe mode with networking right now, which is allowing me to open programs. I've already tried a system restore but it didn't solve the problem.
I have used the cmd command "net view" to attempt to list all computers in the network. However, net view appears to list only the computers that lie in the current domain. What command could I use to list all the computers that appear on the network, in any domain?I was even thinking of running "dir" on something like My Network Places or something like that but I don't really know how to do that.Is there a command I can use to list all computers and not just current domain?
I have 3 desktop PC's and a laptop. One of the desktops is currently setup as a server with 10tb of storage space. All of the computers run on the same network. I would like to be able to automatically backup personal data (photos, downloads, documents) to the server.I tried SyncToy but kept running into problems with my passwords. It is a secure network but there is more than just me using it so my personal computers are all password protected so that other people on the network can't access them.I would like to stay away from "cloud: type storage as I have more than enough storage space on my server, plus I would like to avoid having to transfer files to and from the internet as my bandwidth has a monthly useage cap.
I just got a brand new comp it was working fine for a few months and it stopped working properly. It was acting funny and freezing sometimes then I got on another day and then it says No network adapter or driver is installed, also im booted off my internet and 3 of my usbs stopped working also. I've tried system restore the disc they gave me reinstalling the drivers. I finally got the usbs to work again but today they stopped.Under "Device Manager" there is no network options.I have done a boot-time scan along with and antivirus.
I am using a Windows 2008 R2 domain controller and File Server. Whenever I add a network printer I always make sure the "List in the Directory" (meaning Active Directory) is checked under the sharing tab in the properties of each printer. On Windows XP machines I can go through the add printer wizard and it finds all printers in the domain. On windows 7 professional clients when I got to Add Printer then select "Add a Network, Wireless, or Bluetooth printer" it does not find any network printers from my file server. I have the file and print sharing enabled on the Windows 7 clients and the File Server.
When I click on "Network and Internet" option in Control Panel, I don't see the network I am connected to. (i.e. The computer icon, then the network icon and the Internet with the world icon.)All I can see is "unknown" and below that in blue letters more info. When I click on "more info" the following message pops out:"Do you want to turn on Network List Service?" and the message is followed by information on what this service does. When I click "turn on" nothing happens but the Internet works fine.
When I open a Windows Explorer window, on the left column there are the usual Favorites, Libraries, Computer and finally Network. Click on network and after what appears to be a brief scan, it will show a nice list of all the computers connected along with Media Devices.
But sometimes, some of the other computers drop off. I seem to notice this after mine wakes from sleep mode (and perhaps some of the other computers have been off and on. It doesn't refresh the network list. Mine shows up, but nothing else.
If I reboot, everything shows up again. But I don't want to do that all the time. Is there a way (command) that will refresh the list manually?
So I can't turn on Network Discovery to share files etc via network. I'm on Windows 7.I googled and found one specific solution, which was to make sure several services were set to automatic and started. All but one specific service would not cooperate " FUNCTION DISCOVERY RESOURCE PUBLICATION".Alas, I googled this fix as well, it came up with a dozen suggestions, from creating a new windows account, launching applications via admin privilege, resetting nstat stuff via cmd...even copying over some new keys in the reg, and even editing one called BFE....all failed.I had this same problem on my other laptop, but samsungs running windows 7. I don't know what to do at this point. I've spent about 6 hours googling and attempting fixes. This is the error after attempting to start the service via service.msc "Windows could not start Function Discovery Resource Publication service on Local Computer error 0x80070005: Access is denied"
My wireless network suddenly is not showing up on the list of available networks anymore. It was working fine and suddenly (maybe after some Windows updates?) it just disconnected and it is not on the list.Other networks show on the list and the network adapter is working. The network is working too, I can connect my other devices.
i have a 7 series samsung laptop, I can make my own "custom" power plan, or even set it on balanced or anything, and when i shut computer down(doing it properly), and start it up, the power plan is back on "Samsung Eco Mode". I'm not sure if THIS eco mode is what is then turning off the network card, but also when i start, the internet is connected for about 5 seconds, then disconnected....adding another piece to the puzzle there is a program installed from the factory called "Easy Settings" and when i open that, network card is in "off" position, i turn it on and instantly have internet again. This easy settings program is on my list of programs i can uninstall, but im not sure if its whats reverting settings or not, getting to be verrry annoyed with opening 6 menus everytime i start-up to get everything the way i want it again. actually also i have heard these samsung laptops come w.lots of fluff programs that arent needed, if anyone knows MORE of these i can uninstall thatd be amazing.
I have a peculiar issue where I would need to have "Network and Sharing Center" open to be able to see that my my laptop's wireless connection. I would see the signal bar and also see the dreaded red x.Even when I have it open, I can see it refreshing each second; like its losing connection and reestablishing. My internet connection is working and has no issues.
Network and Sharing Center - Open Network and Sharing Center - Open and refreshed Network and Sharing Center - Closed
I am using Windows 7I can not open a gif file sent to me. Only one way I know how to open is:~ right click on gif~ click on "properties"~ click on "change"...but there is no "change"...
I have a small network of six computers. Five of them run XP and I just added a Windows 7 machine. I've got a Microsoft Access 2003 database that all of the computers share that is hosted on one of the XP machines. The Windows 7 machine can access the Access database through the network just fine, as long as no one else is accessing it. However, if someone else on an XP machine on the network is using the file, it won't open on the Windows 7 machine. Doubling clicking the file on Windows 7 gives me the circling blue icon for a second or two, then nothing happens. If the XP user exits the database, then I can open it fine. Permissions on the XP that is hosting the database is set to allow everyone. And all the XP machines can access it at the same time.
i am using windows 7 ultimate 64 bit and it has run well for 1.5 years. a day ago however my wireless network icon disappeared from my system tray. you can see what my problem is here on Internet:
Turns out its an actual network. I should probably steer clear, though. There's a network called "Extension 1 in my network list.See? Also note that it appears I'm not connected to the internet (based on the icon.) I am connected to the internet, nonetheless. What is that, and what is it doing there? How do I get rid of it?
I have 3 machines all running Windows 7. Machine C & D are running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 and Machine A is running Win 7 Business Premium 64. To start I setup a Homegroup and joined everyone to it. I can open files on B & C via Machine A and I can open files on B via C and C via B, but when I try to open files on A via B or C, I can see the file, but when I try to access it the system freezes and does not open it.
Machine B is an older install of Windows 7. Machine B is a fairly new install. Both have very little "extra" programs on them except for anti-virus. Machine A has a new install replacing the the old install from the ground up as of yesterday of Win 7, has anti-virus that is the same variety as the others.
I have tried disabling the firewall on Machine A, did not work. I have tired disabling the anti-virus, did not work. I have even tried sharing a new folder outside the Homegroup and once again the other computer can see everything in it, they just freeze when I try to open anything. All the computers are on the same Workgroup. Machine A is running a gigabit adapter and the others are sitting at only 100/10 and are hardwired to the system.
I use frontpage to edit and work on my web site and I can not figure out how to open my web site with windows 7 , I used xp before and in my network places I could setup my web site addy and go threw like setting up a ftp but. After getting a link made for my web site in my network places i could then upload files by draging and droping them to the folders and now front page would open this link to so i could directly open my web site for edditing it. Is there some weres in windows 7 that i can add my web site addy to connect to it for uploading and to use it to log on with frontpage.
My computer lets me browse the network just fine and even sees everything there is to see. However, when I want to say, mount a DVD from a networked computer for example, the Network icon is nowhere to be found on the Open File or Folder dialog window.
Going back to the root level (from the path bar in the very same window) lets me see all the usual stuff: drives, homegroup and such but once again, no network.
I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I couldn't find any solution to this and it seems like a very silly thing to remove from the OS.
I hope it's just me being blind and I really appreciate any information you guys can share on this subject.
(Using Windows 7 RC1 64-bit, in the same network with two Vista 64 computers.)
