I am unable to open "Computer", "Control Panel", "Devices and Printers" or any of the other options when I click on the start icon in the task bar. I receive the error message "Server execution failed" I have Windows 7 operating system.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently decided to reinstall Win 7 as it`s been about a year and things are starting to go a bit awry. For instance I can no longer open the Start Menu Control Panel without it hanging and having to restart Explorer. The real problem though is that my DVD drive won`t recognize formatted disks. If I put in a blank up it pops, but nothing else. Device manager says its all ok.
View 3 Replies View RelatedSo...I got a new computer and WMP was already kinda screwy since it was splitting up my albums and messing with the tracks. No matter how many 'scan now' things I ran, my computer didn't pick up anything wrong, so I just dealt with it. Now WMP isn't working at all and every time I try to play a song I get the message: server execution failed.I have a Window's 7 OS 64bit computer. I've tried scannow, I've tried FixWIN, I've tried FixWMP, I've gone through a three page thread with a similar problem, tried all of the manual fix-its and nothing worked. I absolutely do not want to re-download my entire OS just to fix one program.In fact, I'm done with trying to fix the program. If anyone out there can give me a compatible WMP, any version (old, new, experimentand for the next version of Windows please, please, please, don't make the WMP program indivisible from the OS. It's so much easier to uninstall and reinstall one faulty program than to reinstall your entire OS and deal with back up disks and things.

I solved the date problem but now I have another problem. I was transferring files from my pendrive. View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been through and read the post on people having server execution failed messages, but they all seem to be for Windows Media Player etc. I have yet to find a post for someone having a hard time launching a game.
The game is The Sims 3 and I HAVE played it on my laptop before. In fact I was playing it less than a week ago and it launched just fine. I have made no changes to the game's settings, nor have I installed any new programs on my laptop. I am horribly confused as to why I am getting this error message when I have done nothing (to my knowledge) to change anything that would effect my game launching.
The only change that has been made since the last time I successfully played the game is a Mozilla Firefox update. I highly doubt that this would change a setting somewhere and make my game non-playable. I
I recently had a really annoying virus which would not go away, after 7 days of fighting with it I decided the best course of action would be to format and reinstall win 7. However now my PC is super slow, I cannot open desktop items, without right clicking and selecting "Run as Admin" and even that is really slow. I'm using windows 7 64 bit and when i play my games the game would litterally skip... kind of like having frame skip on the highest then playing a game.. Also, windows media player would either do one of the following:1. video skips and no audio plays2. Server execution failed3. The video will play for like 5 seconds then says it cant play the file..Also when i try to run the windows experience index it will get the video decoding and it will say that it can't complete it for some reason. I've tried reinstalling windows and it just kept happeningI've tried doing everything to repair WMP and then it would work until i reboot again. even when i dont repair it i have to reboot then it would be fine.

The tap option that allows you to click by tapping the pad rather than clicking the button keeps toggling on and off by itself. It also lost the scroll function. The sensitivity is also out of whack.I went to the control panel to try to readjust the settings and for some reason they are missing. The Control Panel does not have any options for the touchpad. It doesn't even acknowledge that it exists. I have tried downloading drivers that were supposedly going to fix the problem, but nothing has changed.How can I gain access to the touchpad options and get it back to the way it was?

When I click on Device and printer, there is no response. When I click on display, I can open the Display window. Prior to that I uninstall a Monitor software, MaxiVista Ver. 4.0, and when I tried to reinstall it, it will not reinstall. I am not sure whether this is a related event. I tried to open Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore, and it will not open.

They both hang on starting and I have also noticed that in Control Panel, the Sound tab itself is unresponsive and won't open the next menu level. The same with 'manage audio devices' in the sub menu underneath it. I have a Focusrite Saffire 6 USB interface, which plays back audio fine. I have tried reinstalling the drivers for the Saffire to no avail, but this seems more like a Windows problem. Has anyone got any clues, as my work relies on me creating music and I just can't see another solution except reinstalling Windows, which would be a pain given the amount of stuff I have installed already

Suddenly and for no apparent reason Control Panel will not open on my Win 7 64-bit computer. If I go to the Start Menu and click on Control Panel link there, an icon for the Control Panel appears on the task bar, but no Control Panel window is open! If I move the cursor over the icon on the task bar I can see a miniature version of All Control Panel Items, but NO LARGER CONTROL PANEL WINDOW will open. Weird. If I just try clicking on the task bar Control Panel icon nothing happens, unless I right-click on it and click <Close Window>, then it will close. Other links to the Control Panel also fail to open the actual Control Panel, and merely produce a task bar icon.

For example...when I try to open My Computer, or Recycle Bin, or Control Panel, I get an error panel stating....."This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program, or if one is already installed, create an association in the Default Programs control panel." Unfortunately, I cannot access the Default Programs program either, for the same reason.

I can't open Mouse Properties in Control Panel. I click and nothing happens. I ran sfc /scannow but it didn't fix the problem. It found some corrupted files which it couldn't fix, but they weren't related to the mouse or control panel in any way I could see.

View 3 Replies View Related1) Asus Laptop Model UL50VT with Windows 7 Home Premium. 2) Hard Drive crashes dies, send it in and get it replaced. 3) Several months after getting the Hard Drive replaced (Yesterday) I noticed that my D drive had 350GB of memory as compared to about 150GB in my C Drive. This was a problem considering my C drive was nearly full.4) I decide to just put new files to the D Drive and that I will copy files over to the D drive to use it as my primary driver. I use Yahoo!Answers as my reliable source of information on all things registry. After following the instructions that I can no longer find, I edited several files in the registry, believing myself to have changed the primary drive from C to D.
5) ^^ The above instructions given were most likely from an epic troll. Everytime I open any System 32 file I get an error that Windows cannot C:/Windows/System32/Application I tried to open/etc... This includes, sadly, my regedit application.6) I copied my System32 folder over to my D drive and attempted to open the application from over there, but it has not worked.7) Many files on my computer are unable to be found by windows, System32 is not the only case. It appears to be somewhat random8) I tried as a cop-out way to fix this to create a new User Account, and that also failed... It simply will not open the Control Panel section for creating a new account.9) Lastly... and perhaps this was my stupidest mistake of all... I never created a recovery disk.
