I just loaded windows 7 64 bit os and I am having problem with the taskbar. When I open some programs like my anti virus software it will not open but the icon pops up in the task bar. When I run the mouse over the icon a small screen comes up over the icon but clicking on it will still not open the program. The little screen just disappears. Even when you go to explorer and try to open the program it still won't open. I have several programs that has this problem.
I wanted to install Movie Maker but it comes packaged with Live something or other, and it includes Live Mail, the newest version. Now, I do not have Movie Maker, don't even ask! But I have a newer version of Live Mail which I dislike -- that ribbon! Can I uninstall the Live software and reinstall the old Live Mail? This install window that pops up is very annoying and if I click cancel it still loads Live Mail. I saw a similar case some time ago when I opened MSN Messenger.
I can use some help in understanding and fixing a vanished program icon. I'm running APC Personal 2.2 on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. Up until I noticed the other day the APC icon which was customized to show on taskbar did and was. Yesterday I noticed the icon gone. I ran it manually and the last recorded event was 9/1/10 and there have been at least one since then. I turned off the display icon and then turned it on an it appeared on the taskbar. Rebooted, not there. Used CCleaner to check startup programs and it showed that the program was listed to start. I disabled it and then re-enabled it and got a pop up from my firewall about it contacting home. Rebooted and it still did not appear.I feel as if the program is not running until I turn it on manually even though it says it is in the configurations section of the program.
this is really annoying when playing a game as it causes the game to drop out and go back to the desktop. it also does it when watching a Internet video on full screen or watching a video in windows media player blocking the controls and being generally unsightly in both cases.
i don't want the taskbar gone completely, i just don't want it interfering when i'm not using the blasted thing!
I had this problem with some programs, when I was running windows Vista Ultimate 32-bit and now that I’ve upgraded my notebook to Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, I’m seeing this problem happen much more often.
When I open some programs, either the main program window or message box’s or menu’s, open up extending below my taskbar. In Outlook 2007 when I try to set up email accounts, the setup wizard go’s below my taskbar which means I can’t click on next or Finish. True Launch Bar is also another program that does the same thing and half a dozen other programs.
My screen is set at its max 1900 x 1200 resolution and the DPI is currently at 170%. Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT.
All of my icons in startup are of wordpad and all the shortcuts i click on in all the menus are of wordpad and they come up in wordpad as code.I would like to have the icon as well as everything back to normal.
I had a program installed called Spiral Knights, and I pinned the icon onto the taskbar so I could quickly launch it. When I was done playing it for good, I uninstalled it and it looked like the icon was off the taskbar, but it wasn't. When I tried to put another program onto the taskbar, called minecraft_server.jar, it pinned to the Spiral Knights icon, even though SK isn't installed anymore. Wherever I try to put the minecraft_server.jar onto the taskbar, the SK program is still there, and it says if I want to pin the minecraft_server.jar onto SK.
I installed Windows 7 on new computer. Some programs start up minimized most of the time - but not always. At least Mozilla Thunderbird and Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 keep doing that to name a few. The shortcut properties have "Run" as "Normal window" for both programs. I think I've also tried closing them with Ctrl pressed as suggested somewhere.
As for other similar problems, I get occasional problems with opening windows from the taskbar groups. The window shows up nicely when hovering over the thumbnail picture of the taskbar group, but when I select it, it just flashes on the top and then disappears / goes back behind other windows. Alt-tabbing seems to work flawlessly, but it'd be nice to be able to use the taskbar too.
I've noticed later that Alt-Tabbing doesn't work always either. They suggested me to try and pin software to taskbar at bleeping computer. Both Thunderbird and Premiere have started normally when launched with the pinned icon instead of the desktop shortcuts. That's not the real solution though and the problem remains at least with Windows Media Player. It goes often minimized when launched by double clicking a video file on explorer.
I did a search on your site and found Toasty's post (Programs start Minimized, will *NOT* maximize.). Also it said in some post that you should press Alt when closing. I'll try that next time the problem occurs, but I doubt it's the solution as the programs sometimes open normally and sometimes don't. Either way there's also the problem with the taskbar...
When I drag an icon from the taskbar to show its pinned list, the item where my cursor is, gets opened immediately, I remember pinned list used to stay there until I clicked any item, but now it automatically opens the selected item as soon as I stop holding click.
Does anyone know how to add an icon button in the taskbar that not only takes me to hotmail email, but displays current amount of emails as well for my windows 7 home premium OS desktop?
my Acer Aspire running Win 7 has stopped showing the audio icon on the Taskbar. Some websites have very annoying music or 'announcements' so I like to switch the sound off - now I can't without going via Control Panel.I have looked in Control panel and found System Icons - and the Sound label is shown as OFF. But the little arrow next to it to change the state is greyed out so I can't turn it back on.I tried the 'show all icons' under Notification Area Icons but the audio still doesn't show.
Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.
I just installed Windows 7 on my Acer Aspire One netbook, and there is no power icon in the taskbar. When I right click on the taskbar and choose properties, the power icon is turned off and the button that allows you to turn it on is greyed out. I've checked it with the netbook plugged in and on battery power and have the same issue
this thing shows up every now and then in my Taskbarshows up just for a second and then disappearsit looks like camera, a gear, and printerany ideas on what it might be?
I need a way to easily set my power options on my Desktop, i.e. the time it takes to go to sleep mode or screen saver ect. On my xp laptop I can left click on the battery in the taskbar and choose always on, presentation, ect. My desktop has Windows 7 x64, and I can't enable the power icon on the taskbar (Its grayed out in the "turn system icons on or off" ). Is there any way to enable it or a shortcut to the power plan selections in Windows 7 on a desktop?
When trying to open programs task box opens up and ask for the exe extension for programs. I have tried to using the Internet Explorer program highlighted but it does nothing. It asks if i want to run or save the exe extension for the program. Tried both and nothing works.
Also tried to restore computer from and earlier date, get an error message that says "System cannot start."
Using XP I had written a program that opened automatically on certain dates when the computer was first turned on. I have the same program but it doesn't open on Windows 7 on the dates it is program to open. I believe I was able to have the program set to open by enter "RUN" and select programs to be open on start-up. I can't find the same start_up procedure on Win 7.
my machine is funky; when i double-click on any shortcut, program, or photo it will not open. i have to right click and select open. it is most annoying. anyone know how to fix?
I reinstalled a Windows 7 OS, and now the volume icon has disappeared from the taskbar. The only way I can adjust the volume is to go into Control Panel. I found the "turn system icons on or off" window, and although the volume icon says "show icon and notifications," it's not on the taskbar, so I don't know what more to do.
I guess I have a long way to go to get used to win 7 !Whenever I open any folder, the folder icon on the taskbar disappears ? And if I need to open another folder within my folder, I need to go thru all programs - documents - my documents - finally to the folder I wanted.is there any way around it ?
Just recently i have noticed that the battery icon is missing from my taskbar. I have already right clicked on the taskbar and went under 'notification area' and selected for it to always be displayed. I have also tried clicking on 'turn system settings on and off' but it says it is off and does not allow be to turn it on. It kind of looks like the icon is missing or there is no icon for the battery power. I have a Windows 7 laptop.
Can I actually specify a custom size for these taskbar icons other than small or large as here? I have so many of them and my taskbar have already two rows and sometimes when I open programs or whatever else that is NOT included as a shortcut button on the taskbar, it takes extra space at which point the taskbar becomes scrollable with 3 rows. Not a good thing. I hate it with a passion. Yes I could make my task bar with 3 rows, but no, I don't like to waste my precious screen space. So basically I'd like to to make these icons a little smaller, kind of like the QuickLaunch icons.
