Upgraded from 7048 to 7057 today. I have 2 LCD monitors running off a Nvidia 7800 GTX.
After it finished, all my desktop shortcuts were on the secondary monitor (left), and I can't move them to the primary monitor (right).
I can open programs and move them to either screen, and the taskbar will work on either screen. Gadgets work fine on either screen.
I can't create a shortcut or a new file on the primary monitor on the right.
I was using UltraMon 3.0.4, and tried uninstalling it, and installing an older version, with no improvement.
If I make the left screen primary, then I can create & move shortcuts to either screen. However, using UltraMon puts the taskbar & extended taskbar on the same (left) screen.
Booting into Vista 32 or Windows 7 64 shows both screens working ok.
I'm running Windows 7 64 bit system with a 1GB nVidia GTX 460SE video card, and can no longer drag folders from one monitor onto the other.
Can't use any of the function keys or top row of keys on my keyboard either - don't know if that's a related problem. Keyboard issue probably predated the folder moving issue though I'm not really sure.
I have a three monitor set up. Whenever I open up a browser, either internet explorer or google chrome on monitors 2 and 3, after a few seconds it automatically drags my browser into my main monitor(monitor 1, where my start button and status bar is located)
I have a setup with 6 monitors. Today my main monitor broke and I couldn't find a way to shut the PC down since I couldn't access the main desktop to get to the Start menu.Is there a way to change which monitor is the main monitor without having access to the current main monitor?
I am running a dual monitor setup with my TV hooked up via HDMI to my laptop.
Everything was working fine before, I always had the laptop as my main display yet I could play a video or a game fullscreen on the TV.
Since a couple of days, as soon as I put something in fullscreen, it immediately goes on my laptop, regardless if it's open on my TV or my laptop. I don't remember changing/installing anything that could've changed that...
I checked a bit in the AMD vision software and the Windows control pannel but I can't seem to solve my problem without switching my TV as the main display. I also made a quick search on google as well as here but the problems were mainly with Flash, which isn't in cause here.
Here are my system specs:
Toshiba Satellite L75D Windows 7 home premium 64-bit AMD Radeon 6520G
I have just did a clean install of Windows 7 ultimate from XP and I am unable to get my dual monitors to work like they did in XP.
I have a DVI Radeon graphics card plugged into the agp slot, and a Nvidia geforce vga adapter plugged into a pci slot of my dell optiplex 755. When I am in the screen resolution settings the second monitor cannot be detected.
In bios I have 2 options under primary video adapter and they are auto, and onboard card. When set to auto the Nvidia card gets a signal but the Radeon does not. There are no conflicts in the device manager, and all of the drivers are up to date.
When I change the bios option to onboard card the Radeon adapter gets a signal but the other monitor cannot be detected and in device manager there is a yellow exclamation mark next to Standard VGA adapter and a code 10 error that states the device could not be started.
I have powered down, and unplugged every cable, I also tried to use the integrated VGA adapter to the Intel G31/G33/Q33/Q35 Graphics Controller but the computer will not even boot. I get
"System Halted
Attention Unsupported Video Configuration Detected"
I have two monitors, both work fine as standalone but Windows will not detect either as a secondary.
Please help me someone, I am so used to having my helpdesk email open in one monitor and all of my other work in the other monitor.
This computer is running an ATI Radeon HD 2400 Pro. It does support dual monitors...(I've had dual monitors active on this card before, but never on Windows 7.) But since installing windows 7, I can't even get it to detect the second monitor. I want to run the setup with the CRT as the primary monitor and the HD as the secondary.
I recently had an older HP Pavilion Media Center m7760n Desktop PC rebuilt. The old power supply fried the motherboard so I need to get a new power supply and motherboard. Here are my current specs.
Mainboard : Asus P5QPL-VM EPU Chipset : Intel G41 Processor : Intel Core 2 Duo E6420 @ 2133 MHz Physical Memory : 2048 MB (2 x 1024 DDR2-SDRAM ) Video Card : Intel(R) G41 Express Chipset (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM 1.1) Hard Disk : WDC (1000 GB)

As you can see from above, the "video card" is actually integrated into the motherboard. The computer works perfectly except for one major problem. I have 2 monitors, one is 22" with 1680 x 1050 resolution and the other is a 15" monitor with 1024 x 768 resolution. At the back of my computer I have a VGA port and a DVI port. The 15" is connected to the VGA port and the 22" is connected to the DVI port. When first starting the computer, the 15" monitor was recognized as the primary monitor while the 22" was recognized as the secondary monitor. No problem. I simply went to the display settings and set the 22" to be the primary monitor and the 15" to be the secondary monitor. Unfortunately, this setting seems to reset as soon as I reboot the computer. The 15" is always set as the primary monitor on start up, forcing me to set the proper settings all over again. What's worse is that even after I have set the proper settings, they sometimes revert back when using Media Center or other programs. Worse yet, sometimes the monitors both go completely black ... as if the monitor settings were about to switch but got locked up some how.I'm assuming that perhaps the on board video has a primary port (VGA) and a secondary port (DVI) but even still, shouldn't Windows 7 be able to over-ride this and save these settings so that the monitor settings remain the same during startup and regular usage?
I'm using a television (32p) as a second monitor in extended mode so that I can watch a movie in the TV and play a game in the monitor (this was my main goal). Monitor and TV lays in two different ambients, both connected to the same pc, one by normal VGA cable and the other by HDMI. I managed to differentiate the audio output so that VLC player sends it's audio to the HDMI (so that only the TV plays it) and the rest of system sounds, media players and games outputs to the speakers (basically only the VLC audio is directed to another output device). I reached my goal so that I can watch a movie fullscreen in the TV and play a game in the monitor fullscreen too without any interference from one another (nor audio or video).
The thing is, because I have the TV in another ambient I can't actually see what's going on in it, as I just "throw" the VLC window to the TV from my main monitor. And here's the question: There's a way to see the TV's desktop in my monitor? Without having to set it as main monitor so to not really switch between desktops.. The perfect thing would be if I could see the TV's desktop in a window like in remote desktops applications.
I have AT&T DSL and it just drops out, I have a 2 wire router and the DSL and Internet lights will flash red when it drops, I have had this problem for almost a year and AT&T will run a useless test and tell me everything is fine. I have searched for 3 days trying to find a Broad Band Monitor to let me know when it drops and for how long, also how many times while I am at work, or just not on the PC.
I have just gotten a new computer with Windows 7 Pro installed on it, and am going through the learning curve. I have two questions with respect to shortcuts that are created -- usually via the drag & "create shortcut here" option.
1. Is there a way to make the arrow smaller, or if not then is there a way to make it disappear? It is taking up about 1/4 of the icon picture. 2. Is there a way to not have the words "shortcut to" appended. I can always do a rename, but that is a bit of a bother.
All the shortcuts on my desktop are now opened by the windows photo and fax viewer.all has got 'lnk' to it. i tried to restore to previous state but i did not work out. if i need to open any program, i will have to go all the way to the program files to locate them before i could launch them.
I have been trying to create a shortcut for my Microsoft Security Essentials when i create one to the desktop it works fine but when i transfer it to rocketdock it just comes up the path is not t specified. Its driving me mad the same thing happens when i try and add system restore to my dock, but when i create the shortcut to the desktop it always works fine?
I have a friend with the same problem as I found by searching "Mydocuments and local user setting have all disappeared" but when we checked the hidden box, she can see the main folders but all of the files - docs pictures excel files - are gone. The folders all appear empty but she can open them from Recents and the show to be in her previous folders that are now gone. She had several pop ups that was telling her the C drive was corrupt and windows files were missing so I had her unhook the internet and they went away. Her Norton had run out so she was going to uninstall it and reinstall the version that came on CD so she was unprotected for a few days. but when she ran the new Norton and did a scan, all it showed bad were the cookies. We also downloaded Ad-Aware and scanned for spy junk and it showed nothing. The PC is an HP but I don't know more right now. It is only 2 months old. I am going to her house in the morning to see what I can find out but if you, saint19, see this tonight, can you give me any pointers on where to look? Her desktop image went away along with all the shortcuts except Recycle Bin, MS Word and Excel.
I am tired of having to fix a pc for my family. Therefore I decided to create two seperate non administrator accounts next to the default administrator account. On my last install this worked fine. If someone wanted to install software the system would popup and ask the administrator password. For some reason after a fresh install the newly created users can't even delete the adobe reader shortcut from their desktop. I guess the rights management is setup differently. How do I fix this?
I thought this list of keyboard shortcuts from "The Lazy Admin" might be useful I didn't know half of these.
WIN + T – With the new taskbar and the way apps dock there, this shortcut will open the preview of each of the apps running in the taskbar. No need to hover the mouse over the taskbar any more! Ctrl + Shift – This shortcut will launch any application that is docked on your taskbar with elevated privileges.
WIN + Space – This shortcut will make all windows transparent and allow you to see the desktop. Release it and return back to the current window.
WIN + P – Need to connect to a projector or external monitor on your notebook? This shortcut will do the trick! You can also use WIN + X to open the Mobility Center and do it from there too. WIN + Home – Got a cluttered desktop? This shortcut will minimize all the windows on the desktop with the exception of the active one.
WIN + Arrows – There are a load of shortcuts that utilize the arrows. WIN + Right Arrow will dock the windows to the right while WIN + Left Arrow will dock it to the left. WIN + Up Arrow will maximize a window while WIN + Down Arrow will minimize it.
WIN + Shift + Arrow – In conjunction with #6 once you have the windows docked you can move them to other monitors in a multi monitor display. WIN + Shift + Right Arrow will move it to the right. I think you can figure out what the Left Arrow does!
WIN + +/- - OK I know I said seven but this one is cool too. WIN + + will zoom in and WIN + - zooms out!
All the shortcuts on my pc will not open. All of a sudden windowa photo viewer took over tham all. I can't even do a system restore and the shortcut for this won't open. I have tried to change the program using internet explorer too, and this won't work. How can I find the right file opener and where is it on my pc?
after several days of cleaning up a clients laptop of around 150 viruses, i think it's now clean. But as always, viruses have effects after they have been removed, and in this case its that it has removed all the links to programs in the all programs list. All the folders are there, but no links inside them. I have been googling this for multiple hours and the only thing i have found is to restore them using a folder called 'smtmp', well this laptop doesn't have a folder by that name anywhere on the laptop. Also i have ran Unhide.exe.
Recently have been facing some issues with the shortcuts on desktop as well as quick launch, and some from the start menu. clicking these shortcuts, triggers the cursor to load briefly, but nothing happens.therefore, in order for me to run these programs i have to 'run as administrator', is there an alternative way to fix it? shortcuts that are unable to load so far, are mostly related to the internet, for example, windows live messenger, firefox, chrome, safari....except ie only recent installation: windows update; microsoft live essentials 2011
It began when my company's network suddenly wouldn't recognize my user/password to access the folders on the server. My network admin tried to reset my password and even created a new user for me. Inexplicably a new problem arose. Clicking icons on the desktop or the start menu stopped working. I found that opening the file location and clicking the .exe did work. The problem remained when logging in as the local administrator.I found that the problem occurs on all .LNK files.System Restore to a month ago had no effect. Am I mistaken in believing that this proves that the problem isn't in the registry? I did a full disk virus check using the ESET a/v software on the computer as well as with MalwareBytes. No effect.
a friend finally convinced me to install Google Chrome as my browser. The first website I visited would not display properly, therefore I reverted back to Internet Explorer. Now, several of my webpage Desktop Shortcuts open Microsoft Word2007. I've deleted a few of the Desktop Shortcuts and re-installed them; however, I get the same result.
I have a folder called PICS with a bunch of sub-folders
[code]...
If I copy the PICS folder over to the USB drive and keep the same directory structure, is there an easy way to update all of the shortcuts so the files can be accessed when the drive is plugged into another computer?
how do i create a desktop shortcuts for web pages. I want create Facebook and gmail, etc web pages desktop shortcuts, I downloaded "iconomize_facebook_desktop_icon_installer" but after install it nothing happen, there's no shortcut for start that program.
I have over 300 shortcuts I would like to display on my desktop. No room. I tried to figure out how I can page groups of 60 at a time. Tried Sondle Virtual Desktop Assist Software but that just switches between same desktop but session only open/close of availiable programs.
The keyboard shortcut WinKey + E opens up windows explorer. Is it possible to make your own custom keyboard shortcuts with the windows key? I've not had any success in mapping the Windows Key.
