I am wondering if opening more than one program at the same time would slow down the internet connection. If one opens for example msn, skype, streaming video, many tabs, and other internet connected programs, does this will significantly slow down the internet speed?
I'm moving from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine and have transferred my project files (engraving files as well as .bmp). When I try to open a project folder in any of the programs I use it takes 2-3 minutes for it to load all the filesThere are just over 10,000 files in the folder, they are all small files (nothing larger than 100k), and on the XP machine it loads in an instant.I have done everything I can find online (turned off indexing, changed the folder prefs, etc) and nothing works. When I open the folder within Windows it loads in an instant, however when I try to open it within a program is when it dragsDoes anybody have any ideas of what else I can try outside of threatening the computer with physical violence? Also as you can tell by my screen name I'm a mac user that has to use PCs at work.
We have a Windows 7 laptop that we have on a wired network. The network seems fast to access all the other computers on the network (4). However, when we try to run a program from our Windows 2000 machine it takes a super long time to load and is slow to respond to network requests. The other computers on the network are running XP and have no problem with this computer or this program. We are running a DLink router thru a Dlink Switch to the network.
Whenever I try to open a page (Ex: Google, MSN or anything), it takes forever for the page to open, if at all. I had this problem once before and one of the techs suggested that I run SUPER AntiSpyware, which I did. Amazingly, this took care of the problem and my pages were loading extremely fast. However, within the last week my computer slowed down to a crawl and it's almost impossible to use. I am very careful what I download to my computer, so as not to get any viruses. The problem is, that I need my computer for my work and right now it's impossible to use
Clicking on link that opens a tiff file is quick the first time then becomes extremely slow when opening the second, third and fourth. If I wait about a minute the next tiff I click on opens fast then gets slow again with any after that. I have opened the same images from my Windows XP and no speed issues. The file size of each tiff is the same and does not appear to be a factor. what changed from XP to 7 that could have caused this ?
Also, on the Windows 7 PC if I choose to save the file first then open it then it is fast.
Anyway, for a while now I have had this problem of new tabs opening slowly. Whenever I click the new tab button, it will create the new tab, but it will not load for about 3 seconds. I have googled this issue, and have come up with things like disabling addons (I ran IE in the no-addon mode, and it still had the problem), and somebody suggested resetting IE (I did so, but to no avail).
Does anybody have some recommendations, other than switch to FF or Chrome?
My specs are as follows: Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit 8gb DDR3 ram i7 2630qm Not sure what other specs are needed.
When trying to open programs task box opens up and ask for the exe extension for programs. I have tried to using the Internet Explorer program highlighted but it does nothing. It asks if i want to run or save the exe extension for the program. Tried both and nothing works.
Also tried to restore computer from and earlier date, get an error message that says "System cannot start."
Using XP I had written a program that opened automatically on certain dates when the computer was first turned on. I have the same program but it doesn't open on Windows 7 on the dates it is program to open. I believe I was able to have the program set to open by enter "RUN" and select programs to be open on start-up. I can't find the same start_up procedure on Win 7.
my machine is funky; when i double-click on any shortcut, program, or photo it will not open. i have to right click and select open. it is most annoying. anyone know how to fix?
I have windows 7 and recently I'm having a problem with my webpages and programs opening and running. For example, whenever I open my webbrowser (Google) to search for something, it takes an exteremly long time, if at all, to respond. I've tried doing a disk cleanup and even ran Malwarebyte's Anti-Malware to check for virusus...Nothing!
A person who works from home brought his laptop in today as he was having issues printing. We have the same printer here so I hooked it up as he would do and got rid of his problem (a print job stuck in the queue! He has just called me and says that now he is back at home, his printer works fine but when opening or closing programs it goes in what he describes as 'slow motion'. He likened it to the same effect as when you switch on the trail for the mouse pointer. I haven't done anything which would affect things to my knowledge as I didn't install any updates / drivers / software etc.
recently my pc has been delaying on opening everything, when i open a program like chrome it takes about 5 minutes or so for it to open then when i try open a new tab, it takes about the same time.when i unlock my pc or when i have to press yes or no to open that program, the sound played for it like 2- 5 minutes later. when i eventually open up a game the audio is fine but when trying to watch a Internet video sometime i dont even hear audio until about 5 minutes after the video has started?
Okay so i tried everything to get my .php open in notepad again. the thing i have doneControl PanelProgramsDefault ProgramsSet Associationsand.Control PanelProgramsDefault ProgramsSet Default Programs
Something that has been bugging me, is that when installing a program, the setup wizards and their subwindows open in the background, rather than on top as is normal. Being absent minded, I will sit and wait for several seconds, until I get impatient and look at the taskbar to see new tabs, which I must select to bring the setup on top. How can I set the OS to always bring these on top by default?
I read somewhere how you can choose the default program to open a folder with, but now I cannot find it again, and I also cannot find how to do this.
I had done it and changed the default file manager, but I want to reverse the change. I can't get to a window or dialog box that lets me change the file types windows displays, or that lets me edit the default program when I click on a folder icon.
trying to open my ATX 2012 Tax program and get the following error message Sfs.Max.Shell.Loader has stopped working, A problem caused the program to stop working correctly, Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available.i have been trying for over a week
I've been recently getting the BSOD when I open almost any program, when I try to open it my display stops and I get the BSOD error STOP: 0x0000001E. The latest thing I would have downloaded with suspicion would be a game torrent. I've gotten a BSOD error STOP: 0x00000050 and error STOP: 0x0000001a, but mainly error STOP: 0x0000001E. I'm thinking that my RAM is corrupted, looks like its a memory problem. I'm currently in Safe Mode with Networking. Anyways, sorry for using Winrar, I didn't have 7-ZIP installed.
Whenever I open Google Chrome, it opens really close to the bottom of the taskbar, and I always have to manually drag it into the center of the screen and maximize it. How can I set it so that automatically opens in the center of the screen?
I just loaded windows 7 64 bit os and I am having problem with the taskbar. When I open some programs like my anti virus software it will not open but the icon pops up in the task bar. When I run the mouse over the icon a small screen comes up over the icon but clicking on it will still not open the program. The little screen just disappears. Even when you go to explorer and try to open the program it still won't open. I have several programs that has this problem.
I recently ran into an issue where this installation on Windows 7 Pro 32-bit is trying to open up all my programs in Word, they all have the MS word icon as well, so for instance, when I click on Nero, it will try to open it up in word and we get an error because it is not a word file. This is on all Program .exe files. There are no options to change the file association in the default programs in control panel. I have only seen a few fixes for this which involve the registry, I have checked these, however, all registry keys are correct. System restore fails as well, have tried multiple restore points to no avail. We have also ran norton, and malwarebytes on the system is it runs clean.
My problem is windows 7 hangs and freeze when access 2003 server Enterprise edition. This is not a small network, one of the biggest network.i have doubt on individual users on domain. before 2 months we had department wise users mean, for example Accounts@domainname.local. But after we created the individual users like john@domainname.local to all users. this is i believe the cause of problem. When we acess the server via the software it freezed for 5 seconds and then repeat to normal state. And after some time it hangs for 2 minutes.
This program has been running for 12 hours without interruption, and it is still chunking away but slower. That is it seems to pause 5-10 seconds before flashing up the next file. I don't think my data is unusually large at just over 1 million files, and my hard drives total 2,946 GB with each well under 50% used capacity. All other programs can run smoothly and Windows Task Manager Shows no program is stuck. But if I need to wait for 1+ million files to be examined at 5 seconds each, it won't be done in my lifetime! What do I need to do differently?
The problem I currently have is whenever I open close minimize or maximize a program, be it google chrome or World of Warcraft or even any MS Office program it starts slowly and minimizes slowly. I've been having this problem for about 5 days now and I have no clue how it arose. I am using Windows 7 x64 home premium. I am new to computer stuff with little knowledge of the lingo and processes of how anything really works. Also I found on these forums something that seemed familiar but there was no solution. Whenever I play Starcraft 2 It becomes choppy and slow moving. The start up screen for every game I play is in slowmotion.
I would like to add that browsing the internet and playing some games is perfectly fine after the initial slow moving start up. though it still closes and minimizes slowly.Another thing I would like to add that may be the cause to the problem. Whenever I start up my computer it is super slow. it takes the windows in starting or resuming icon forever to rotate and load.also after the 5-10 minutes I have to wait for it to finally get to the User selection screen. when i do select a user, the program Curse Client ( a program for World of Warcraft addons) doesn't work and gives me this message: An error has occurred while attempting to load a Microsoft .Net configuration file. this is often and indication of a corrupted .net installation. and it goes on to say; We recommend visiting Microsoft download Center to repair your .net installation. would you like to go there now?
10-27 I reformatted my hard drive. Well, even before then, though, when I'm composing an email the cursor stops and it seems to freeze. I need to wait 8-10 seconds or so for the cursor to reappear. Whatever I have typed prior to it freezing (or whatever) gets typed out once it reappears, but something is not right here.Any advice?
I have searched through some of the threads and there seems to be an issue with the realtek drivers, but I am wondering if anyone has any other ideas.
I am currently running build 7237 and everything runs great except if I copy something across my network. I have attached a picture that shows my network utilization spiking up to almost 99% when just coping files from one computer to the other. This only happens under 7, not on xp or vista.
I have tried playing around with adapter settings, etc but nothing seems to help. My motherboard is a Gigabyte with the built in 8168/8111 nic card. Connecting to a Linksys WRT54GL router. I have checked gigabytes site and they don't have any new drivers for 7 yet.
Just set up Windows 7 RTM on one of the machines in our office and I'm noticing something very strange: when we try to open a network drive, it's taking upwards of 40 seconds. You double-click on the drive and then just sit there as the green bar just CRAWLS across the address box and then finally displays the contents of the drive.
What's worse is that it does the same thing every time you change a directory on the network drive.
Opening network resources via URI does the same thing. It's just strange.
I've already disabled RDC on the machine, and it hasn't made a difference after a reboot.
my router is brand spankin new, 802.11n. the modem has since been replaced... but for the life of me, i cannot get a decent download/upload speed.I Used to get 28-31mb download on speedtest.net. then later it dropped to 17-25, and i said, Ok, thats not bad, not great, but not bad. now im down to .81mb-1.2mb average if im lucky i pull 3 or 4.my upload speed has always been no higher than 1mb. i am not 100% sure why, im prety sure they do it so i dont run servers, but it still seems a little low IMHO.I dunno whats going on, i have a bit of network experience, but all software end, nothing hardware end in the way of routers etc?
