Windows 7 Will Not Boot When The Boot Disk Is NOT In The CD Drive

Jul 24, 2010

2 months ago, I installed windows 7 pro with no problems at all. Fast forward to today, I decided to reformat because the boot would get stuck in the middle of trying to boot into windows, it wouldn't flash the windows logo. I didn't think much of it so I just reformatted. This is where my real troubles began. So I reinstall windows 7 pro with no problems (the boot disk is in there the cd drive the entire time) I install my programs and what not and install my updates. All 100% Fine. Then I take out the boot disk and restart again... and I get this error message saying:

Nvidia Boot Agent 229.0525
Copyright 2001-2005 Nvidia Corp
Copyright 1997-2000 Intel Corp

Client Mac Address: 00 30 1B BC1F59 GUID: 12973077-FFFF-FFFF-FFFF-FFFFFFFFFFFF DCHP....

Then I press escape, then it says this:

PXE-EA0: Network Boot Canceled
PXE-M0F: Exiting Nvidia Boot Agent
DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER

So the first time I got this error, I just thought, Oh, something must have happened no big deal, so I reformatted again and again. But I kept on getting the same exact error. It'll load into windows just fine when my install disc is in the cd drive, but when I take it out, that error pops up. *My windows is authentic, each time I have been able to validate my copy.* I have tried installing from my hard drive and from the install disc with same error.*

This is my current set up:

Shuttle XPC SN27P2 (Barebone) Comes with motherboard, PSU, and case.
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ @2.6GHz 65W
PNY XLR8 GTS 250
OCZ Reaper Memory 4GB PC-6400 DDR2-800
WD 74GB Raptor
WD 640GB Internal
WD 2.0TB Internal
WD 1.5TB External
WD 400GB External
Cavalry 1.0TB External
Shuttle 450 Watt PSU
Logitech G15 + MX518 + FuncPad 1030 Blk on Blk
Sony Optirac 18x DVD-/+RW drive
Dual Samsung SyncMaster 225BW 22" LCD Wide Screen Monitors

So how can I get windows to boot up with out having the boot disk in the cd drive...It worked the very first time I installed windows 7 on my PC...

Windows 7 Recovery Disk In The CD Drive, Attempted To Boot Up, But The CD Drive Just Spins And Spins But Never Boots?

May 29, 2012

My HP laptop HD crashed, am trying to replace it with a Kingston HyperX 120GB SSD. I do not have Windows installation disks, only have Windows Recovery Disks. All installation instructions I have found for SSD's is for cloning, which I cannot do since the HD is deadI have installed the SSD, booted into BIOS, this simple BIOS version doesn't allow me to change anything on the HD, but it does recognize it and let me do a HD test, so it does recognize the SSD. I then put the Windows Recovery disk in the CD drive, attempted to boot up, but the CD drive just spins and spins but never boots up. I thought the CD drive might be bad, so I tried an external USB CD drive with the Recovery disk, but it does the same (just spins). I even got a new Windows 7 installation disk (from another PC) to see if it will boot from it, but get nothing but a spinning CD I have not done anything yet to the HyperX SSD, haved not formatted or partitioned it.I thought this would be done by Recovery on the OS installationThe BIOS is set up to first boot from the CD drive, so the boot order is not the issue.

Installed New SSD Boot Drive, Want To Repartition Existing Drive

Mar 23, 2012

I have a partition question and after scouring the Web, can't find anyone with the exact same situation as mine. Basically what I'm wondering is if I can delete a primary partition and then extend another, non primary into that space.

Here's what I have and why I want to do this: my laptop came from the factory with one 500GB SATA drive, split into two partitions (C, primary, and D, logical, each 250GB). The Win7 install was on the C drive. Recently, I installed a 120GB SSD as a second drive, and using the tools with it, copied the contents of my existing C partition to the new SSD, and then made the SSD the boot drive labeled as the C drive. So far so good, everything works fine.

Now, what I'm left with is this: C: 120GB (SSD, now the boot drive with the Win7 install) D: 250GB (SATA, the original D partition, Disk Management IDs it as a logical drive, extended partition) E: 250GB (SATA, the original C partition, Disk Management IDs it as a primary partition)

So, I have the original "C drive" on E now... it's no longer the system/boot drive. Obviously I don't need the files on it as they are all on the new SSD. What I want to do is to delete all those files and then combine what's on D and E into one 500GB D drive as I have no reason to have the two partitions. Is it possible to just delete the E partition and then extend the D partition into the unallocated space? I'm confused because it seems as though the D partition may rely on the E partition being there since the E drive IDs as primary. Or would the D partition become primary?

I know I could just back up the D partition to an external drive, delete both D and E partitions, and reformat as one new D and restore the files, but I don't want to create more work for myself if I don't have to. Obviously I don't want to mess up the files on the D drive though, which is why I'm asking.

Dual Boot Issue With ' Boot Drive '

Apr 26, 2009

ok so im having a weird problem thats probably very easy to fix.

background info: before my Windows 7 install i had 3 partitions

vista 64

xp 32

empty (soon to be linux)

when i downloaded the newest win 7 build i deleted my xp 32 partition and installed Windows 7 on that partition. because Windows 7 creates that "reserve partition" or what ever, it extended my EMPTY partition with my vista partion. which cause it to become a "logical drive" rather than a "boot" drive. aka i cannot figure out how to access my vista OS.. rather annoying since im just toying with Windows 7 atm.

Boot Manager Missing / Boot From USB Drive

Is there any way that I can put the image file onto my USB Flash Drive and boot from it with my Acer Aspire X1200 desktop computer?

Change Drive Letter For Boot Drive?

Jul 25, 2009

I deleted my existing OS then created two new partitions on the same drive. Then I installed Vista on one partition and that partition was properly named "c" as ususal. Then I started Windows 7 setup.exe from a different hard drive and let Windows 7 install itself into its own partition. When I got to "My Computer" the Windows 7 partition was labelled as "I" instead of the expected "C" which had never happend before when I did the same thing.

Does anyone know a save way to label the Win 7 drive as "C" while in Windows 7?

Windows 7 Won't Boot On New Hard Drive

Jan 8, 2013

My Old HDD crashed, it had windows 7 on a D: logical drive with an extended partition (Not sure why/how I ended up with a D: logical drive and an extended partition, it probably happened when I upgraded my windows xp to windows 7 32 bit OR when I upgraded my windows7 from 32 bit to 64 bit, anyways.....). My old HDD also had two other primary partitions which probably had some system files etc,. I do not have a backup of these two primary partitions, however, I do have a paragon backup of my logical drive D: extended partition alongwith a backup of first track (not sure what that means). My old drive is bad. I got me a new HDD, created a new NTFS primary partition with a drive letter C:. I then restoed the paragon backup of my windows D: drive on to this new primary C: partition. Now, I am not able to boot windows 7. Seems like I need to make this new partition bootable and/or make it a system partition. Not sure how to do this. I dont want to install windows 7 from scratch and then load all the software programs.

Configuring Boot Drive To Windows 7

Jul 6, 2010

Recently bought a 2tb storage drive and I'm using all 6 sata ports on my mainboard! I've got a 74gb raptor that's got windows xp dual boot with my main os windows 7 though windows 7 is on another drive! I want to remove the dual boot as I don't need windows xp anymore (do I?) the thing is the raptor is my first boot device that gives me the option to boot into windows 7 or xp and if I select the windows 7 as my first device it just comes up with the error can't find boot device so there must be a config file on the raptor 74gb that I need to move to allow me to boot from the windows 7 drive and remove the raptor to use my new drive! Any advice on how I can do this as any software that I could use?

Clone Windows 7 Boot Drive

I have a hitachi 2tb 5400rpm drive, with my OS installed on a 500GB partition (100gb free). I just got a 1tb samsung spinpoint f3 which i want to use as my boot drive. I have tried 3 methods: 1. Downloaded clonezilla, and used tuxboot to create a bootable flashdrive with clonezilla. I used the i686 image of clonezilla. I made a partition on the samsung drive which is 10GB larger than the boot partition on the hitachi. 2. I used the windows utility to make a back-up image of my bootdrive. I then made a bootable copy of windows 7 live install on a flash drive. Booted off it and tried to restore from that system image. I got an error: The system image restore failed. Error: Error details: The parameter is incorrect.(0x80070057) 3. Same as method 2, but I used a CD instead. This time, i got this error: System image restore to new drive fails. 0x80042414

Boot Windows Xp From External Usb Drive?

Jan 31, 2012

I've got a XP Pro laptop I'm about to decommission but I've got programs I don't want to lose. I know there are programs that claim to be able to bring programs over from one machine to another but the results don't live up to the claims. I was wondering if I could take the hard drive out, place it in an enclosure and boot from it on my new Win7 Home Premium laptop when I want to use my existing XP programs. Alternately, I have my old laptop C drive backed up using Acronis. Could I "restore" it to a new partition on my Win 7 machine. I know that certain things like hardware drivers etc. won't work as it, but if the programs worked, that'd be fine with me. The rest could be worked on as needed.

3TB Drive Slows Down On Windows 7 Boot?

Feb 24, 2012

My PC has the following:

[code]...

Originally I planned to set the two 3TB drives up for RAID1 but when I ran into some problems I decided to instead set one of the 3TB drives as the location for Windows backup (drive "A" for use, drive "B" for backup). However, when I set drive B up for Windows backup whenever Windows 7 boots it takes about 60 seconds longer (it hangs on the "Starting Windows" screen). Both drives are recognized and I'm able to freely transfer data between them, and the problem disappears when I run the clean diskpart command on drive B.Does Windows 7 backup have problems with 3TB drives? I'm still having problems setting up RAID1 either through my motherboard or Windows 7 for these drives (Windows 7 doesn't give me the option to mirror) so at the moment I'm not sure what to do.
