Any Way To Move Installed Programs To New External Hard Drive?

Oct 23, 2012

I'm about to get a 2 terabyte external hard drive and I would like to move all my user installed programs to it without uninstalling them and reinstalling to the new drive. My question is....1. Is it safe to drag and drop the program files from C: to the new drive, and 2. If it's not a good idea to perform a drag and drop is there another option?

Moving Boot Data To Data Drive

Aug 18, 2012

So I've been using my 64GB ssd as my windows 7 boot drive and i have a 1TB hdd as my data drive. Recently the my computer has begun to freeze up with errors like "explorer.exe" has stopped responding or "windows" has stopped responding and half of the time when i try to boot it says it cant find windows. This has lead me to believe that my ssd is dying despite being only a year old. I need to RMA my ssd but to do that i would be losing my boot drive for weeks. So I thought id try to create a system image so that i can simply put my boot drive on my hdd, but when i try to create the image it says that the image would be 711GB because its including all of my hdd (which contains all my user libraries and downloads). My question is: how do I make windows stop thinking that my hdd is a system drive so that I can create a reasonably sized image, or more generally: how can i easily move my boot drive to my hdd? Also, I've read some posts about using "easyBCD" to accomplish the latter but I'm not sure that's exactly what i need in this situation.

SSD As A Boot Drive, Hd For Data?

Sep 1, 2011

I am having a new rig put together and ideally I want the following set up: Win 7, 64 bit on an SSD drive, along with all my software (MS Office, Adobe CS3 etc etc). I'd want to put all my data files on a separate hard drive. Is this possible? I keep hearing conflicting advice that windows registry doesn't like it and some software won't even install on an SSD. Is there anyone who can throw light on this?

I have heard that you can ghost a file on the data drive into the x86 folder so that all new installs go there and then you still recieve most of the benefits of your ssd w/o clogging it up. I have an amd based system (dont know if that matters or not)

Move Windows 7 From One Drive To Another?

Dec 16, 2011

I have used many cloning software.

- Macrium Reflect
- EaseUS Disk Copy & Todo Backup
- RoboCopy
- Paragon Backup & Recovery

I'd like to move Windows from one drive to another without backing up THEN restoring. This is an extra step that I consider unnecessary.RoboCopy ALMOST did it correctly. But it corrupted the Outlook Registry. Microsoft recommended to uninstall and re-install Office.

When I go to C: prompt and call up DIR for D: it tells me there are no files there, although I can see them in Explorer. Can I just delete the folders on the C: or am I going to cause a problem doing this (hidden system files within the folders???). Should I only delete the actual files?

Possible To Move XP Backup To RAID 0 Drive

May 29, 2012

Just wondering what or if I could move an xp backup onto a raid 0 drive. I did setup the drives in raid in the bios, and they show as raid. I booted into my marcium backup and ran my xp backup onto the drive, that showed in marcium as a raid 0 drive. When I booted, which went fine, into xp it shows in disk management as raid 0. But the problem is, it shows two drives, together and the 2nd drive as being un partitioned. Therefore I'm only running on one drive. Is this fixable, or do I need a clean install?

Move Win7 To New Partition On Same Drive

Nov 25, 2009

I installed Win 7 on a partition on the same drive as XP.

1 - XP was on C: Win 7 installed to F:

2 - I have removed XP from C:.

3 - Repaired Win 7. Win 7 boots fine.

Now I want to move Win 7 to the beginning of the drive but unsure how - as Acronis doesn't allow me to clone to the same drive - even though its another partition.

Is there any way round this?

Move Applications Folder To A Different Drive?

May 31, 2012

I have the following system setup: 2TB drive divided into three partitions: C: 50GB - Windows 7 installation E: 1000GB - Applications (in a folder called 'Apps') and videos F: 950GB - Music and games

I bought a 120GB SSD and installed it yesterday, and the SSD is partitioned into one 30GB partition, and one 80GB ish partition

I migrated my Windows 7 installation from the hard drive onto the SSD using AOMEI Partition Assistant, which worked perfectly, and very quickly. I then told the BIOS to boot from the SSD, and it works fine.

I now want to move my applications (over 50) onto the SSD. Is it possible to copy the 'Apps' folder over to the second partition of my SSD, and get them to work somehow, or will I have to uninstall and reinstall all of them? (Which I'm not looking forward to, if so!)

Unable To Move Files To Separate Drive

I was just recently moving some of my files from My C drive to E. It was all going smoothly as I had done it before but, this time instead of copy and pasting I dragged and dropped the files over. I was doing this to cut down space on my C drive, to my surprise though I saw it was increasing (drive C) by every file I had put on E. I would like to know if I had done something wrong or what happened I started at 148GBs stored and it increased to 156GBs. If it helps I was moving games from my x86 program files.

How To Move Files / Folders From PC To Say A Flash-drive

Jan 10, 2012

I just got a new laptop pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm making the jump from Windows XP to 7.I know I have to make a recovery cd. Should I do it before or after I remove a lot of unwanted bloatware that came with the new PC? How can I tell if I have service pack 1 installed? If not, where can I go to download it? Or should I? The new laptop is a HP brand desktop replacement with a 17.3 screen. My old one has a 15.4. I'm having trouble adjusting to the wider screen. Also having problems adjusting it to where I can read text clearly. I tried the true-text settings, and the dpi but the text still looks too small and fuzzy. What happened to the Move, Copy, Delete menu that appears on the left hand side in Windows XP when you highlight a file or folder? How do you move files/folders from the PC to say a flashdrive or vice versa?
