View 3 Replies View RelatedAnyone seen this before or know what causes it? My mom is suffering from it. I did move her default desktop location to her data drive.
Here you can see the properties. The one on the left is the default location one which appears in explorer but shouldn't. The one on the right is the real desktop that I moved to her data drive. 2 copies appear for the one on her data drive.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a few problems, so I'll do a nice list rather than splatter gunning it onto a post.
1) If I have a window (singular) open with 7 icons in it, how can I move them about? I don't want to arrage by type, auto arrange, sort or any variation there of. I just want to move some icons about in a window, cut the ones I want and leave the rest as is. Any way to do that? I really can't figure it out.
2) Is there a WMP12 to 11 downgrade prog that works on 64bit yet?
3) In XP, if I wanted to set a wallpaper across two screen then I'd make it the size I want (photoshop) then tile it so it would be across the two. That doesn't seem to work now. So is there some trick?
4) Oh, my icons are going a bit iffy. Icons for MP3's and most things that play via WMP12 have gone. Any idea as for a fix?
I am having trouble getting difffernent wallpapers configured on my dual monitor setup with W7B1. Is this a known issue or is there something I am doing wrong? I am running an ATI 4870x2.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have two computers running W7p that I want to access when I'm away from my office. I am able to use remote desktop from inside my home network on either computer. I am able to access one of the computers from outside with my router set to forward global port 3389 to host port 3389. I am guessing that what I need to do is set up two port forwards in my router; the global port will be different but the host port will still be 3389 in each case. Does that sound right? One thing I know is that going into the registry and changing the host port to something other than 3389 does nothing. In fact, if I do that I can no longer use remote desktop inside my home network. I've looked all over the web today and there are not any clear instructions on how to do this (that I could find). I read the Windows 7 forum tutorial.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI tried out Windows 8 for a while. Unfortunately, many of the video games I play crashed a lot, and well, to make a short story short, I have reinstalled Windows 7. One of the features I really liked in Windows 8 is that with a dual monitor set up, my desktop backgrounds not only rotated, but were not synchronized like in Windows 7. For instance, I could have a Battlefield 3 background on one, and a Company of Heroes background on the other... while on Windows 7, if I have Battlefield 3 on one, it will be the same thing on the other display. I can't seem to work out an option to have different "unsynchronized" desktops rotating..
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen booting system sometimes I hit F9 to select boot device, when I want to boot from dvd or usb. Before you say I can list boot devices in bios I know this, the problem Is UEFI and Legacy my UEFI system is not secure boot and for whatever reason I have to F9 and manually select usb or dvd legacy, some versions of linux will not boot otherwise.
UEFI boot sources:
Windows boot manager
Linux Mint
Linux mint
[Code]....
Over the course of the last year I have dual booted several version of linux, but it seems that linux mint and ubuntu add entries to my UEFI boot sources list...how do I remove them, the list is getting to long, and currently only windows 7 is installed.
Hp Pavillion Slimline s5-1114 Bios version 7.16 Ps other than this annoying list the system boots fine right into windows.
Ist I had a win 7 x64 which ran smooth for over a year (had x32 before that, and some linux variants)..Then I decided to upgrade my pc to win 8 (i had heard from fellow it'ers that the upgrade was much better than previous versions so i thought why not give it a go)..It was a disaster, my pc kept freezing on me sometimes even before i had one program open.If it went in sleep -> oh yeah freeze OR actually going to sleep but not being able to wake up.After some weeks in that hell, i did a clean install..Better,it seemed, but not much and not for long. After more cold rebooting my pc in a month than in the 2 or 3 years I've had it I decided to put win7 x64 back on..You can imagine my horror when I noticed that (although being WAAAY less severe) even my win7 started freezing on me.I even had my boot menu (3 times orso) and my post (1 or 2 times) freeze on me, so I'm suspecting maybe some HW issues.Often I had corrupted ntfs system after one of these agressive shutdowns, which were solved by autorepair next boot.
I ran chkdsk, hdd diag,memtest86..All came back clean. In windows i used advanced driver updater (because i was sick of doing it all manually) so ALL the drivers were up to date, even sata controllers,chipset,...
Also, I don't know if it matters but when freezing my pointer dissappears very often (90% of the time). I attached the win8dump files and evt logs in the win7 file, the more info the better no? (Yes writing this from a win7 os cause it freezes less)
I am trying to get my wife's new computer up and running without any BSOD or program failures. Note that the system was not initially set up to capture the dmp files so all the earliest ones are missing. I presented the initial problems to the original seller who recommended sticking with MSE and uninstalling Norton 360 and I did that. Another forum suggested that Virtual Memory was the problem and I disabled and restored VM. Still having multiple crashes and I am hoping that I can get real help here. I do note that all the crashes have ntoskrnl.exe in the driver stack although sometimes alone and sometimes with other drivers.[CODE]
View 2 Replies View RelatedWe have three medical clinics and the front desk staff float from clinic to clinic depending on their schedule. I only started here a few months ago and I am working on upgrading their Dell xp systems to Windows 7 systems. The problem begins to crop up when say a user named Sally will come in and sit down at this system for the first time.. Well, she needs to login, click on outlook icon, let it find her exchange PST and copy settings to her user profile, then she launches the application for the scanner that she uses to scan in ID's and insurance cards for every patient coming in.. The scanner is set to default settings and needs to be tweaked on color depth and double sided, etc.. Then after that, she needs to launch her Medical EMR application.. and then choose various options in the citrix client, ..TL;DR - Each user needs to spend 20 minutes resetting the defaults at this updated system.
Well this is fine except, I am planning on updating 2 front desk systems at each clinic, the user Sally will need to do all these things EACH time she finds herself sitting down at a system I just swapped out the previous evening. My thought is this, put a single system down in one clinic and let it sit a week giving most of the float users a chance to work on it for a day, setting all of their preferences etc.Once I get a bunch of them with user profiles on the local drive, grab an image of that drive and just deploy that to each system I roll out..Couple issues I am running into:First would be that I would have to register each Windows 7 copy with a new serial, which I have The next issue is, we have a mis-mash of Dell optiplex systems. 330's - 380's even a couple 320's..
I have been getting a fairly random blue screens and I cannot pin point it myself. I know a bit about diagnosing and repairing issues but this one is just a pain in my butt. I am uploading the dump files and I hope someone can give me a hand I am running a sfc scan right now to test for any problems too. Also got this off the TSG SysInfo Program.

I have attached a second monitor to my laptop which runs Windows 7, however, I need to set different resolutions for different monitors, because the display does not fit to fill the screen on both monitors.
It is also noted that the display is replicated, and I would like to have the effect of having different desktops e.g. being able to use different applications such as debugging code on one monitor on an IDE such as Visual Studio, and, viewing the browser on the other monitor.
Currently it does not seem possible since the behavior seems to be that the same resolution is replicated on both monitors.
I use WhoCrashed to analyze these errors but I dont know how to solve. Maybe my hardware cause these.

I'm having a bit of trouble trying to get two monitors, a small 1024x768 LCD, and a 46" 1920x1080 TV, to display the same wallpaper at different resolutions. My graphics card is older, a Nvidia Quadro FX 1700, but it is perfectly capable of driving both displays at the same time. It's a minor annoyance, but I'd like to get it working if it's possible.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen I save files from programs (aka Word, Photoshop, anything)onto my Desktop, I cannot see them directly from the actual desktop. I can only see them when I open up Explorer, and click on the Desktop tab. Then all my files are visible. I thought they were hidden...but they apparently aren't.It possibly seems like a refresh error.I did find a way around this..I go to Control Panel >> Appearance and Personalization >> Under Folder Options >> Show Hidden Files and Folders. I click on Reset folders, Apply, and then OK, and my missing files pop up on my actual desktop. But from then on, any new files I save are only visible in Explorer again. I don't want to go to Control Panel everytime I have to save something to the desktop? I've run Norton and Microsoft Essentials and I have no viruses. What can I do?I just found out I can also see my files after pressing f5 (refresh)so I guess the problem is HOW do I get my computer to refresh the desktop automatically?

I've been looking around for something that can hide my desktop icons (or basically anything except my background & bottom navigation bar) if I'm not viewing the desktop. In other words, when I have a (not full screen) window open, I want to be able to see my desktop background but not the icons on it. When I "view" the desktop, or don't have anything on top of it, I want the icons back.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a really annoying problem with desktop icons.I use 2 monitors. 1920x1200 is the main dislay and 1600x1200 is another one for extended desktop. The thing is that I don't need it all the time so I'd like to switch the extended desktop on and off when I need it. Problem is that entering the ex. desktop just somehow changes the grid (it seems that the grid becomes more compressed in vertical direction). That means that it always messes my icons up. I don't know why do the Windows change the grid when I do not change the resolution or just anything that could possibly affect the main screen.
