View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a few problems, so I'll do a nice list rather than splatter gunning it onto a post.
1) If I have a window (singular) open with 7 icons in it, how can I move them about? I don't want to arrage by type, auto arrange, sort or any variation there of. I just want to move some icons about in a window, cut the ones I want and leave the rest as is. Any way to do that? I really can't figure it out.
2) Is there a WMP12 to 11 downgrade prog that works on 64bit yet?
3) In XP, if I wanted to set a wallpaper across two screen then I'd make it the size I want (photoshop) then tile it so it would be across the two. That doesn't seem to work now. So is there some trick?
4) Oh, my icons are going a bit iffy. Icons for MP3's and most things that play via WMP12 have gone. Any idea as for a fix?
I am having trouble getting difffernent wallpapers configured on my dual monitor setup with W7B1. Is this a known issue or is there something I am doing wrong? I am running an ATI 4870x2.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried out Windows 8 for a while. Unfortunately, many of the video games I play crashed a lot, and well, to make a short story short, I have reinstalled Windows 7. One of the features I really liked in Windows 8 is that with a dual monitor set up, my desktop backgrounds not only rotated, but were not synchronized like in Windows 7. For instance, I could have a Battlefield 3 background on one, and a Company of Heroes background on the other... while on Windows 7, if I have Battlefield 3 on one, it will be the same thing on the other display. I can't seem to work out an option to have different "unsynchronized" desktops rotating..
View 1 Replies View RelatedI just built my computer 2 days ago. It runs, but I am having trouble installing Windows 7.
1. When I successfully make a partition and start installing, the "Expanding files" section stays at 2% before eventually reading an error saying Windows cannot be installed because the files do not exist.
2. After 2 tries, a new problem arose: Windows can't get past the "Starting Windows" screen. However, when I detach the single internal hard drive, it can. I don't know what the boot combo in Bios is that will fix this or if its something else.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently had a few bad viruses on my computer (some trojan and google redirect virus). I think I got rid of them, but I deleted a lot of stuff maybe I should not have in the process. Windows update no longer works. For a while, I was not even able to scan for updates, then I ran the fix it from the microsoft website and that let me scan, but when I try to install, I get this error message: Code 80246008 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. When I click on the link to get help with this error, it can't find any information on it.Anyways, when I go into control panel > administrative tools > services, Windows Update is not even in the list. How do I get it back? Do I have to reinstall windows?
Edit: I should also note I just tried to install the latest virus definitions for microsoft security essentials and I got error code 0x80240022. Says there may be a missing system file, an incorrect system setting, or a problem with a registry file.
I used the windows defraggler but it shows me a drive that doesn't exist.i have only C,D E and F which is DVD drive. But while I try to defragment it shows me a drive like:

I would like to know where this drive is located. When I click on my computer it shows only drives C,D,E.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI open a program and it opens on the monitor. I think restore the size, rather than having in maximum size.
The program disappears, but is still in the task bar. I click on the program icon in the task bar to make it appear in the monitor, but the program shows to open on a non-existent monitor on the left of my monitor.
I have checked Display adapters in Device Manager and they are working ok. I have checked Control PanelDisplayChange Display Settings and all looks ok.
Everything has worked find until recently. No real changes, however I suspect Microsoft Windows 7 is doing some dirty tricks after I have made multiple complaints about their poor customer support on the phones.

I booted up my Win 7 (32 bit) PC this morning and noticed that it was not connecting to my wireless network. I went to check the network settings in device manager and I got the message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I can see the file devmgmt.msc in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder, but when I run it from there I get the same message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I am also seeing this same message when I insert my Windows 7 CD and try and re-run the setup. Even if I try to run anything as an administrator, I get this message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". Is this some sort of Malware? Is there any way of recovering from this?
View 9 Replies View RelatedRunning Windows 7 (6.1, SP1, 64-bit).Previously, I was using WinXP file search in classic mode. Predictable, reliable results.I'm finding Windows 7 file searching to be unpredictable at best.I have dozens files of the form xName-<date>, where x is my first initial,Name is my last name, and <date> is the file date (e.g. - "mSmithCV-7jan09.doc").When I use the Windows 7 search to find "name:smith", no files are returned.Nor will "name:*smith*" return any files. The search does return the files if I specify "name:mSmith" (i.e. - the beginning of the filename),but I have no confidence that the search is returning ALL of the files.
Is there a classic search mode? Or a simple, cost-effective third-party file search utility? Or even a way to get Windows 7 to find all files whose filename contains (but does not begin with) a specified string?[I find Windows 7 to be better than XP in most respects, but I really can't believe that this search functionality made it out the door.
I was trying to remove some malware "Win 7 Home Security 2011 - Unregistered Version" and I noticed that I cannot turn on Windows Security Center Service. When I click "Turn on Now" button I get an error box "The Windows Security Center service can't be started." I am running McAfee & Malwarebytes. When I execute "sc qc wscsvc" from the command prompt I get "The specified service does not exist as an installed service" .OpenService Failed 1060. Can I reinstall Windows Security Center?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI was cleaning out my computer and deleting the inactive accounts, setting up the guest account, enabling parental controls, etc. When I was finished, I had two administrator accounts (mine and my mom's) and we were going to set up a guest account with parental controls. As I went to do this, I was prompted to set up a password for her account. I clicked "Add new password," but when I did this it password protected the account without me even adding a password? So I signed out of my account to go to my mom's side, but I couldn't access it because there was a password!! But really that password didn't exist, so I went back to my account to remove the "password." After signing out of my account once again, I was able to go into her account which had then turned into a temporary account (no clue how that happened). So I went to switch accounts but the only accounts visible in the Startup screen are her's (which is still a temporary account) and an account titled "Other User" which requires a username + a password -- mine is completely gone.So when I'm in my mom's (temporary) account I can still access the control panel and My Computer, which shows that the accounts do exist!! And so do all of their files!! So all I need to do is get them to show back up in the Startup menu?

I am upgrading my vista 32 install to Win 7. During the setup, the compatibilty report originally told me that Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 and Trend Micro Internet Security 2008 are preventing the upgrade.
I uninstalled Trend Micro 2009, as it's the only program I have on my computer and I've deleted all (I believe) references to it, yet the upgrade won't continue, because Trend Micro 2008 is preventing it.
Is there a reference somewhere that I could check?

View 2 Replies View RelatedLast week I hit an issue whereby I was unable to access the Internet wirelessly even though my laptop could see the router and had a good signal. I tried connecting up via an ethernet cable to no avail.
The issue seems to have started right after a Windows Update but I can't be 100% certain. If I do ipconfig /all I can see that DHCP is not enabled. I know the router is fine because my vista laptop can access wirelessly via the router fine. I tried doing some things I seen in the forum such as ipconfig /renew etc. but it said it couldn't contact the RPC server. I followed this up and was recommended to check the DHCP client service was started. It isn't even there. I was wondering if the update could have removed it.
Someone else who had reported the same issue on this forum was asked to do a system restore. I did this and the service is still not there. I am assuming that the non-existence of the DHCP client is the cause of my issues accessing the Internet.
