DHCP Client Service Doesn't Exist
Nov 2, 2011
Last week I hit an issue whereby I was unable to access the Internet wirelessly even though my laptop could see the router and had a good signal. I tried connecting up via an ethernet cable to no avail.
The issue seems to have started right after a Windows Update but I can't be 100% certain. If I do ipconfig /all I can see that DHCP is not enabled. I know the router is fine because my vista laptop can access wirelessly via the router fine. I tried doing some things I seen in the forum such as ipconfig /renew etc. but it said it couldn't contact the RPC server. I followed this up and was recommended to check the DHCP client service was started. It isn't even there. I was wondering if the update could have removed it.
Someone else who had reported the same issue on this forum was asked to do a system restore. I did this and the service is still not there. I am assuming that the non-existence of the DHCP client is the cause of my issues accessing the Internet.

On July 12th 2012, my computer installed updates. After rebooting and waiting for me on the login screen, I gave it a hard shutdown to check on the BIOS settings (for a little side project, in the end I did not save any changes). After booting and logging in again, I find that many services are not running. I ran a very thorough check for malware and viruses (took over 24 hours to complete), and still no solutions. I have uninstalled/reinstalled my Broadcom 802.11g Wireless Driver several times.
I now look in the Event Viewer and find that the DHCP Client service is not running! It is set to automatic start in Services.msc, but when I try to manually start it, it gives me error 1075 (some dependencies do not exist or are marked for deletion). Running ipconfig, I notice that my system is using an APIPA-formatted address (169.254.x.x), indicating that the computer couldn't find a DHCP server.
My Event Viewer is peppered with:
Event 7003, Service Control Manager
The DHCP Client service depends the following service: Afd. This service might not be installed.
Event 7001, Service Control Manager
The WinHTTP Web Proxy Auto-Discovery Service service depends on the DHCP CLient service which failed to start because of the following error: The dependcy service does not exist or has been marekd for deletion.
And that keeps repeating many times in a minute (about 30-40 cycles of it).

I have a bit of a problem on my hands. I'm using Microsoft Visual Studio 2010, and every time I try and compile and run the code that I wrote, MVS complains about not being able to write over the .exe file. This has been documented before, and there are fixes, but everything I've tried simply doesn't work. The primary fix is enabling the "Application Experience" service, but the problem is that for some reason that service isn't even listed among the others. I've tried to use that "regsvcr32" thing with the corresponding .dll, but that doesn't work either (it just keeps throwing these error messages in my face)

I was looking over the menus in my router (SBG6580) config page. As of right now I have my netbook and iPhone connected. I found a laptop listed that I do not have:

I selected it and deleted it. Where did it come from. Should I change my router/wireless password?

Probably this error is pretty much a non-issue and I haven't a clue if the affected W7P machine, even runs Windows Server 2008 R2 (or any windows server for that matter). Is this 'server' thing, software that is by default installed (and I'm guessing it's only used when the machine networks with another machine, home/work groups)? As for if and what version the W7P machine even 'runs', the only loosely provided instructions I've found (by clicking the event log's link to information about the error), results in a webpage... Event ID 1001 ..which sort of implies to me that the W7P machine might be running 'Windows Server 2008 R2', if only because the event log error report's link led me to that web page's article, ie; the article says it applies to Windows Server 2008 R2.I tried following the article's mentions of checking to see what version of 'server' that is installed, but step 2 seems too poorly written for me to follow what's actually be said...Determine if there is a network connectivity problem To determine if there is a network connectivity problem between the‚ DHCP‚ server and domain controller: At the DHCP server, click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK. At the command prompt, type ping server_FQDN, where server_FQDN is the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain controller (for example, server1.contoso.com), and then press ENTER. What's unclear to me is where it alludes to..."..where server_FQDN is the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain controller"...I see the article provides an example, but the example seems as obscure as it's parent reference. How does a user determine the "fully qualified domain name (FQDN) of the domain controller"?If that obscurity isn't bad enough, the article then lists a second step "1" stating..."At the command prompt, type ping IP_address, where IP_address is the IP address of the domain controller, and then press ENTER."..and again I haven't a clue as to what's being said, ie; we're not born with a 'domain controller's IP address' tattooed on our forehead, so how's that detail determined?Further down in the article, it lists a step 4 stating..."Type ping IP_address, where IP_address is the IP address assigned to the computer. If you can ping the localhost address but not the local address, there may be an issue with the routing table or with the network adapter driver. " ..and step 5 states..."Type ping DNS_server, where DNS_server is the IP address assigned to the DNS server. If there is more than one DNS server on your network, you should ping each one. If you cannot ping the DNS servers, this indicates a potential problem with the DNS servers, or with the network between the computer and the DNS servers."..and as the article doesn't detail how to determine the machine's 'IP Address' and doesn't detail how to determine 'P address assigned to the DNS server', again I'm left reading an otherwise virtually useless article.

I have a problem with a Windows 7 64 bits. After power on, the DHCP client tries to acquire an IP for all the network cards, even those that are not connected.I can see in the event logs that after 2 minutes from the startup, I get one message for each interfaceQuote: >Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0xMAC_ADDRESS. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server." I have an Astaro VPN client that manifests itself as a network card and when I start it up (manually) it fails to receive an IP from the DHCP server. I believe it is related with this general DHCP problem because if I start it up within two minutes from power on (before I get the message in the event log), then it works.

I'm using windows7 enterprise edition on my Laptop. Accidentally I have removed most of the files inside ProgramData folder.
Now issue is that, DHCP Client Service is not working.
(1) Does DHCP Client really Depends upon any file there?
(2) I have seen that some of the folder have been created inside ProgramData. Can I copy any folder/file from other Laptop (Win7 EE) to my laptop to make this work?

I booted up my Win 7 (32 bit) PC this morning and noticed that it was not connecting to my wireless network. I went to check the network settings in device manager and I got the message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I can see the file devmgmt.msc in the C:WindowsSystem32 folder, but when I run it from there I get the same message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". I am also seeing this same message when I insert my Windows 7 CD and try and re-run the setup. Even if I try to run anything as an administrator, I get this message "The specified service does not exist as an installed service". Is this some sort of Malware? Is there any way of recovering from this?

I have network sharing issues and I believe the problem is that I cannot turn on file/printer sharing. When I click the button under advance sharing settings for file/printer and hit save (as an admin) it just goes back to off. Under Services, the Server option which is on automatic does not start. When I try to start it, it says:Windows could not start the Server service on Local Computer. Error 1075: The dependency service does not exist or has been marked for deletion.

When I try to connect to my home network in Windows 7 RC 1 it says : The following error occured attempting to join the domain "My domain": The specified domain either doesn't exist or could not be contacted. What I do when I try to connect is I open up the start menu, then I right click computer and click properties. I then click change settings under computer name, domain, and network settings, I click change and type in the domain name and the error above comes up. Is this the right way to do this, or is there a different way to do this? I am also sure it is a samba network. If you need more details I can asked my dad.

Just restored my Windows 7 Premium 64-bit, using Norton Ghost 15 from a known good configoration. Norton Ghost gave me some error at the end (insert media? I can't remember) but the install seemed to work anyway. Now when I boot windows shows a menu."Windows 7""Windows Vista/Windows Server 2008/Windows 7"I can still boot but it's annoying. How do I get rid of it?I've tried "bootsec /fixboot" and "bootrec /fixboot" running CMD as admin, but it said command not found for both.

today I backed up my files when prompted by the little flag icon, they went on an external HDD. Updated everything. Went back to pc after tea, and when i switch on it can't boot windows.
1.. it asks me to put the cd in, when i do it goes through to the option to upgrade, repair or custom. If i try to custom install it tells me no drives were found.
2It won't let me upgrade either. So i put the disc for the motherboard etc in and ask it to repair it says IDE drive doesn't exist or ALL primary partitions are occupied

I open a program and it opens on the monitor. I think restore the size, rather than having in maximum size.
The program disappears, but is still in the task bar. I click on the program icon in the task bar to make it appear in the monitor, but the program shows to open on a non-existent monitor on the left of my monitor.
I have checked Display adapters in Device Manager and they are working ok. I have checked Control PanelDisplayChange Display Settings and all looks ok.
Everything has worked find until recently. No real changes, however I suspect Microsoft Windows 7 is doing some dirty tricks after I have made multiple complaints about their poor customer support on the phones.

My desktop started having icon issues, so I did a little reading up and saw that it could help by deleting the iconcache.db file. I did so, and now my icons are completely gone. I can still see the text under the icons and can still access the programs, however they are running slower than normal. Also, on a related note, nothing happens when I click the start menu button.I am running Windows 7 Home Pro 64 bit. I have tried all the fixes to no avail, even launched in safe mode.

I changed computers and so I had to download new drivers for my printer as well as my Powershot Pro1 which included ZoomBrowser. For RAW shots, in order to manipulate the photo, it has to be converted. No problem before. Now, there is no link to do the conversion under Edit, which is where it was and where I found info on line where it should be.

I've recently restored my Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OS on to a new SSD using Macrium Reflect. My hosts file has always contained entries for local websites and has always worked until now. After much hair pulling and reading of forums, the only way that I could get the DNS Client to read and process the hosts file was by adding the "NETWORK SERVICE" user permission to it. It already had "SYSTEM", "Administrators" and "Users" (my user account). This was never required before, so I'm confused as to what has happened to require it now?

I'm encountering an extremely strange issue on my desktop. I keep getting SSL errors when ever I try to go to google.com, gmail.com or dozens of other sites on google chrome. The exact error is "The site's security certificate is signed using a weak signature algorithm". I can't reach the site at all.Windows Update service is also not running and doesn't even show up in "services.msc". I get this error "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer". Obviously restarting doesn't help. I also got a similar error for Microsoft Security Essentials, and it wouldn't run at all so I uninstalled it.MSI Afterburner also gives me an error when I start it up about how I need to restart to properly detect my hard ware, but I didn't do that before and I tried restarting with that as well.I've run many, many, scans to detect trojans, viruses, and spyware using AVG Free, Spybot Search and Destroy, Malware Bytes, Spyware Doctor, Kapernsky's Rootkit tool. AVG, and Malware Bytes both turned up and deleted some basic malware & spyware. The others can't detect anything.

WLAN AutoConfig service gives error 1067 when trying to start it. What I've tried:
Reset winsock settings
Ran SFC /scannow
Did system restore
Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers
I tried all of these in normal mode AND in safe mode. None of it worked. Then i thought the service dll (C:Windowssystem32wlansvc.dll) itself might have been damaged/outdated, so I decided to delete it and put a new one from donor pc. NOPE.It wouldn't give me access to the file. No matter what i tried, safe mode, unlocker tools, auto rename it on startup, doing everything in administrator or even messing with permissions under file properties. It just wouldn't give me access to the file.Wi-Fi was working smoothly few days ago and i literally have no idea why it stopped working.
Specs:
Windows 7 Professional 32-bit
Sony VAIO VGN-SZ340P
