Windows Update Service Is Not Running And Doesn't Even Show Up
Aug 10, 2012
I'm encountering an extremely strange issue on my desktop. I keep getting SSL errors when ever I try to go to google.com, gmail.com or dozens of other sites on google chrome. The exact error is "The site's security certificate is signed using a weak signature algorithm". I can't reach the site at all.Windows Update service is also not running and doesn't even show up in "services.msc". I get this error "Windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer". Obviously restarting doesn't help. I also got a similar error for Microsoft Security Essentials, and it wouldn't run at all so I uninstalled it.MSI Afterburner also gives me an error when I start it up about how I need to restart to properly detect my hard ware, but I didn't do that before and I tried restarting with that as well.I've run many, many, scans to detect trojans, viruses, and spyware using AVG Free, Spybot Search and Destroy, Malware Bytes, Spyware Doctor, Kapernsky's Rootkit tool. AVG, and Malware Bytes both turned up and deleted some basic malware & spyware. The others can't detect anything.
Whenever I try to run Windows Update it comes up with a dialogue box that says "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates, because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer." I believe my computer is Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit. I've tried a lot of the fixes that have been posted, but none of them worked. I tried running an SFC (I think that's what it was called, sorry I'm not very computer smart), rebooting my computer, and doing a system restoreAlso, Windows Update doesn't show in services.msc. I saw one post that said something to do with Windows Security Center can make Windows Update do this, but my Windows Security Center doesn't work either. Whenever I try to turn it on, it says "The Windows Security Center service can't be started." Windows Security Center is also not in services.msc for me. I know that Windows Update worked 2 months ago, but that was the last time I tried using it
I had noticed that I had not seen the familiar process of installing updates to Windows 7 for quite a while, so I went to Windows Update and clicked on Check for Updates.
After a couple of seconds, a pop-up appeared saying "Windows Update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. You may need to restart your computer."
So I restarted with no effect. The same message appears every time. McAfee Internet security is running and says There are no problems with my computer.

On occasion when i boot up im getting a red cross on my volume control in the tray and hovering over it it says the "audio service is not running" but the service is running, i get sound and everything is working fine. Looking at the services i find windows audio service and yep its running fine & set to automatic but there is still the red cross in my tray?at the moment im having to "restart" this service to get rid of the notification and the red cross but its a pain.
I have a two month old, custom built desktop running Windows 7 and last Friday, without any seeming provocation, my wireless network disappeared. My computer is completely unable to see any wireless networks. My router is working fine (I'm using it to post this from another computer), and my wireless adapter works perfectly (again, using it to post this). When I ask Windows to diagnose the problem, it tells me that the Windows wireless service is not running. After much research and several sfc scans, I can safely say that it appears to be a registry issue. System restores, both by Windows and from backups have failed to correct the errors. I've seen several possible solutions like:Run CMD as Admin... netsh winsock reset catalog netsh int ipv4 reset "c:eset.log" netsh int ipv6 reset "c:eset.log"andWindows wireless service is not running on this computer - Microsoft AnswersandGo into the registry with regedit for this:[CODE]
I just installed windows 7 on my 64gb SSD sata3 hard drive i did a clean install. Now my 1TB Hard doesnt show up in windows. It shows it in the bois and in the device manager but thats it....
I am trying to overwrite Win7 32-bit with Win7 64-bit. When I run Win7 install it does not find my two HDDs (they are RAID-1). When I look in my Device Manager (before starting the install process) under "Disk Drives" it only shows "GRAID SCSI disk device" and some other drives that are not hard drives. It does not show two HDDs. The BIOS shows both drives and shows a GRAID-1 configuration. I am not sure what to do next to get Win7 to either find the HDDs to write the new Win7 to or do something with the "GRAID SCSI disk device." I bought this machine like this and am not familiar with how to set these things up: I am not an expert.
I bought these new headphones Ozone Attack, and the sound works great on them, but the microphone doesn't work in any program. Doesn't work in Skype, TS3, and it doesn't even pick it up in Recording Devices. It's the kind of headset where it's not a USB; it's got a plug for the mic and another for the headphones. They're both plugged in firmly, and I've updated my audio thing which is IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. My laptop is a HP Pavilion g6-1241sa Notebook PC. I've also gone into Recording Devices and checked for any disabled mics, but the one in my headset isn't there. And even though my headset is set as the Default Communication Device, the mic doesn't get picked up under Recording Devices. Push to Talk is also not on. The headset is also shown only under Playback Devices.
I have a small problem with my Windows 7. Here's what happened:Yesterday, my pc was running fine. I turned it on at 10am and it was running well. My sister ordered a new router so I set it up for her (AirPort Extreme). I installed the utility for it, was a simple setup for me. After that, I connect to it wirelessly and I see that windows update has a few security updates. They install as I turn off the pc. I then turn it back on a few hrs later and notice that when it reaches the login screen, it takes a few secs for it to load. This is unusual being that the days before it was always ready to receive input. So I login, get the welcome screen, and my desktop screen. Taskbar loads as usual, however I can't get anything to show up when I click on it. I think at first that its Comodo (is in training mode) so I close it out. Still nothing. I then press ctrl+alt+delete. Nothing. I then press it rapidly to see what happens. After a few mins, my screen turns black. A message then shows up that ctrl+alt+delete has been pressed but due to something that it won't show up. Had to press either the power button or esc to leave the screen. Safe mode works. I do a system restore back to when the windows update and to the installation of the router. I scanned and haven't found anything yet. Today, my pc looks like its running fine but its still taking a few secs on the login screen and the desktop still idles. I'm going to contact HP to see what they can do but I wanted a second opinion.
Here's my specs (looks like this):
HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 Quad Edition Windows 7 Home Premuim 64-bit Intel core i7-3820QM CPU @ 2.70GHz 8GB RAM 1TB hard drive NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
I just installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS. The BIOS sees both hard drives and the CD and DVD drive and the Windows Device Manager shows the extra hard drive and both optical drives. When I click the folder in the task bar (Libraries) I can only see "C" drive and no optical drives either. When I click on the CD drive I get the right menues for it, but it does not work at all. If I put a CD in the drive it locks up the system and I have to power off the computer before I can eject it.

I had installed windows 7 32 bit and it had compatibility issue with my Thomson Speedtouch since it doesnt have windows 7 driver I found a tweaked one online and was using it and it worked fine. Suddenly it stopped working and I formatted and reinstalled windows 7 but I was not able to connect the net. The message is always no valid IP configuration. I tried even with a router but the message is the same. So I installed XP on the other partition and I have no problem connecting to the net. Now I want to format the other partition and reinstall windows 7 but I am not able to format the partition from XP or with the installation CD for windows 7.With XP the format fails and with the installation DVD it always goes into BSD.What to do? On startup the previous installation of windows 7 doesnt even show up and goes directly into XP?!
Recently I bought Toshiba Sattelite C670-1DJ and today I accidentally unplugged my AC cable. So I started it and it started computer with "Starting your computer for first use" or something like that.It logged in temporary Administrator account and when I tried to switch to my account, it wasn't there, however there is my folder in C:/users.I tried to reboot computer and edit registrs(I am a begginer in Windows, so i didn't try to do something extraordinary) but nothing help, i cannot log in my account.

I have a problem with my windows updates. For some reason the windows update center is not working and my last update was on 16/9. I get a message to restart but nothing happens.I've already tried sfc/scannow, fix it, windows troubleshooting, fixit50123 and Fixit 50202 but the problem still remains. Somebody told me that cleanup registry that tune up maintenance is using propably causes the problem but don't know how to reverse the clean up
I have a Toshiba laptop with 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium installed.
Although it has updated in the past, I am now not able to start the Windows Update Service. There is no malware on the system and I have tried several methods found on the internet such as resetting the service. I have also been unable to install MATS RunWindowsUpdate.
Opened up Windows Update today and find out it is not working because the service is not running. When I look in services.msc, Windows Update is missing.Running Windows 7 x64. I don't think it is a malware infection.Running ESET Nod32 Antivirus 4, Comodo Firewall and Malwarebyte's Pro. I did a scan with Hitman Pro and it didn't find anything. Tried sfc /scannow, no problems found.I can't find my Windows 7 install cd, we remodeled and moved back in recently.
I just got Windows 7 Enterprise N about a week ago. It is for my computer networking class, our teacher also gave us a bit more other software and I am trying to find out what I am doing wrong. I have installed and ran the precursor software from microsoft.com to make sure that my computer is able to use SP1 and I don't have any problems in my registry. It is an official, licensed version and registered, and all the other updates work. I have manually downloaded and tried to install it and still nothing. Where do I start on troubleshooting this?
I have windows 7 x64, I go to updates and it tells there is an important update I installed it and it was succesful I rebooted the computer and it just shows it again, I go to update history it says it was successful but it still says there is an important update I downloaded a fix it thing I don't know the name it was a microsoft fix it thing but it still says it needs to update it?
WHEN I SHUTDON MY COMPUTER, IGET THE MESSAGE "INSTALLING UPDATE 1 OF 1. IT GOES THRU THE NORMAL SHUTDOWN. EACH TIME I USE MY COMPUTER THE SAME THING HAPPENS. I HAVE TRIED VERIOUS WAYS BUT HAVE NOT BE SUCESSFUL IN RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM
My indexing stopped. When I checked "Windows Search" service is in auto startup mode but it wasn't running. When I tried to manually start, it gave me "Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified." message.
Without an ability to search my computer I am pretty much lost now.
I recently upgraded a Packard Bell desktop to Windows 7. It was originally XP. When I installed 7, it didn't look the same as my laptop that had 7 pre-installed when bought. On the desktop, it doesn't show previews of windows on the taskbar when scrolled over etc. Can I make it the same as the laptop?
After I reinstalled it, and went on to update the W7 SP1 a strange noise came out of my machine just as it began installing it, and then it seemed like my hard drive crashed, so the PC became unresponsive and I had to shut it down by holding in the button (it tried to recover files when I started it up again, hence my hard drive problem theory).I've since reformatted my machine five times and the exact same thing happens, everything, including hard drive works perfectly until I get to installing Service Pack 1.
I have been experiencing same problem in the link above and on both my laptop and my desktop,,,,both of them have same windows 7 ultimate 64 bitWhen I download any file to the desktop I am not able to see it unless I browse to the path C:UsersjohnDesktop,,,,then I would be able to see that file
Is there any way I can check what is see what is preventing Service Pack 1 KB 976932 from installing on my laptop? My laptop is running fine, all other updates installed normally. Don't know whether its a related issue or not but when I connect my Samsung Galaxy S to my laptop via USB, I get MTP driver install failure.
Ok, so i have just built my pc and have been finding it impossible to update to service pack 1. The reason given is: Code 80070057 Windows Update encountered an unknown error. I have researched this type of topic for about 2 days now and haven't found any good solution so i'm trying to post myself now. I have run an sfc scan and this is my test results:Here is some more info about my PC.
I'm having trouble updating to service pack 1 in Win 7 x64 Home Pre by Dell OEM. There is another post that the problem can be solved using the log file so I have tried using the Readiness Tool and the log is as followed:
im new to the forums and my audio service says it is not running. i've gone onto services.msc and it says windows audio endpoint builder has started but when i try to start windows audio it says windows cold not star the audio service on local computer. Error 1079: the account specified for this service is different from the account specified for other services running in the same process.
