Recently through the supervision of the board of infospyware disinfect the computer with combofix, but now in the C: \\ I get several folders that had not previously. These are:
Boot
Config.Msi
MSOCache
ProgramData
I wonder if I can eliminate or minimum if I can stay hidden as they were, because if you change the option of keeping the system hidden folders nothing happens. OS home premium windows 7.
In the explorer window, in the left (navigation) pane, I move the list of folders up to see what I need and when I expand a folder it moves everything down and opens with the folder at the bottom of the window So I can't see what is in it. I have to move the folders up again, expand the one I am looking for and same thing happens. Repeat, same result. This does not happen all of the time however and I do not see a pattern. Is this a glitch in the operating system or perhaps a setting needing adjusted?
i would like an application or modification for windows seven that adds a second taskbar, this taskbar is on the top of the screen and monitors programs you may open, however it would be much better organized that the start bar (in fact it is more like the desktop, mabey even folding out to cover your screen too). It also has a start bar included for the messy stuff.
Today i modificated DEP and since then if i restart windows all my apps crashing cant open anything.The original setting was: Turn on Dep for essential Windows programs and services only and i modificated it to: Turn on DEP for all programs and services except those I select:and i added 2 games exe files (did this because i read on several forums that the game crash to desktop with no reason if i dont do it (and it was crashed for me making the game unplayable) )So if i start my computer and windows start i get Application Error - 0xc0000005 Usually with windows MSN, skype etc programs startup automatically, but now not and get the above mentioned error.At all i cant start Any of my programs or services, because get the same error.Tried the system restore in Repair Computer, but not helped at all.And next to my cursor the loading circle thing is always shows and blinks, like it trying to load something. It never stops.
I got a new 1.5TB HDD and 16gb SSD. I installed Win 7 on the SSD and formatted the the new HDD. My main issue is the SSD is running out of memory abnormally quickly. I find myself running CCleaner every 30 mins... I don't know where the memory is coming from.... Windows takes up 12gb so that leaves me 4gb. I'd like to transfer any major folders like My Documents, etc so I can leave my drive at 12gb and everything else go on my completely empty 1.5tb drive.
I have two drives in my system. I've noticed lately that on my D: drive I've been seeing a series of oddly named folders appearing there. The names are long, and are a random series of characters and numbers.
When I try to view the contents I get the message "You Don't Currently Have Permission To Access This Folder" and a button "Click Continue to permanently get access to this folder".
When I click continue, the folder contains two files, both with .vdm extensions.
A typical folder name is:
D:1e2724ed8a00dcab784e6e241ebc4a
It contains names such as:
984F4F99-4037-483A-890E-726F3A41D6C7mpasdlta.vdm
F1670E07-A29C-4C5D-831C-3CAB1235C2E6mpavdlta.vdm
Any idea what these are, why they are being created, why the D: drive, and how to stop it? Do I need these files? Can they be deleted?
I have a personal drive but its on a shared network drive (school) that i have access to but i cannot open any of my folders inside the drive and when i am able to open the folders i cannot open any of the content inside them its keeps poping up access denied how can i fix this or bypass so i can get to my work?
Recently i've noticed a increase in teh amount of random folders in my C drive.For example when i open it I am overwhelmed by folders with names such as "f8gdhjf8a8304s" When i open them up inside there is a load of sub folders going from the name "1025"to "3082"Inside those is a word document which has something to do with a microsoft website which im not allowed to enter.Is it okay for me to delete these folders? at the moment i have 14 of them.
I recently reorganized my computer and this included a fresh install of Windows 7 on a new disk. I backed up all my data on the old disk so that I could make sure I wasn't losing any important documents or whatever.I'm now sure I've got everything off the disk that I needed and am using the disk as a storage disk for media. However, there are still folders that I can't seem to erase in the Program Files, Program Files (x86), and Windows directories. Most of the files are gone but about 12GB of junk remains that I no longer need. Whenever I try to delete what is left, it says I need permission from TrustedInstaller and it won't let me delete these files.Is there any way to blow these directories away without having to format the disk? I really can't format because the disk is almost full with data that I need to keep and I don't really have any other disks to temporarily back these files up to.
I was running out room on C drive so I moved Pictures & Documents folders to E drive. Now I'm planning to do a clean install of 7. Will those folders and contents be safe if I leave them on E drive while I'm reinstalling 7 on C drive?
I have a Windows 7 machine with external drives. I bought a new machine, also with Windows 7. When I moved the external drives over I can't see the folders. I thought the drive might be damaged so I moved them back to the original machine and I can see the folders. Why can't I see the folders on the external drive with the new machine?

I just got a new laptop pc with windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm making the jump from Windows XP to 7.I know I have to make a recovery cd. Should I do it before or after I remove a lot of unwanted bloatware that came with the new PC? How can I tell if I have service pack 1 installed? If not, where can I go to download it? Or should I? The new laptop is a HP brand desktop replacement with a 17.3 screen. My old one has a 15.4. I'm having trouble adjusting to the wider screen. Also having problems adjusting it to where I can read text clearly. I tried the true-text settings, and the dpi but the text still looks too small and fuzzy.What happened to the Move, Copy, Delete menu that appears on the left hand side in Windows XP when you highlight a file or folder? How do you move files/folders from the PC to say a flashdrive or vice versa?
I am at my wits end with using windows 7. I am sure this must have been beaten to death on here and I am sorry but I am not sure how to word it to search for the answer.I hook up a spare HD to the USB with the same operating system and every ******** file I try to open on it I have to adjust it for administrator and da da da and I am sick of this, it will take forever to look at the data. When I click into my IE8 Favorites, my HD folders are appearing there. I did some tests and if I try to delete them, my original HD files are deleted.
Maybe it happened when I tried do bring back my favorites from my backup files (ex Win XP), and I think that IE8 added all folders of my c: hard drive instead of only my favorites bookmarks.
I have 465gb of files and folders on a 500Gb hard drive that needs to be cut/pasted higher in the folder hierarchy.

The reason this happened is my HD broke down and I had to send it to a company (ChronoDisk) to extract the information to another HD. This is how they sent it.
I need to move those files because the path used by many programs/files are broken. Is it possible to do this without actually cut/pasting? My guess is it might crash half way or simply not work at all because there is not enough empty space to make a cut.
I formatted my system today and did a clean install of Windows 8 and now my USB storage drive says cannot access. I remember vaguely adding permissions or taking ownership to the files when I was on Win 7 but dont remember what it is I did exactly. I was trying to hide my files from other users who logged into my computer and I strongly believe that I took ownership of those files. Basically if I format my PC again and when I browse my storage drive it shouldn't bug me for ownership or permissions. or if I put the drive in another PC it shouldn't ask for me for ownership/permissions. How do undo this?
few folders in my external hard drive are missing. I am running a scan and hopefully it'll fix, but it takes so long to scan the hard drive as it's a 3 TB hard drive.
I've had Win 7 (on a new laptop) since November. I dislike the way the files are arranged, or at least the way they display, in Explorer. Specifically, the Libraries. Is there a way to eliminate that section and have all folders show up under the hard drive?
I am using a brand-new Dell Inspiron One model with a Lacie-model external hard-drive, on Windows 7. All of a sudden, when I click to view my folders, they are completely empty. When clicking on the My Computer option, my hard drive is there, showing 76 GB free out of a total of 232 GB, but everything appears to be gone. When I click on those files, I receive the error stating I am afraid to re-start or unplug my hard drive.
I have most of my games & Steam on this particular SSD & every time I access the drive to add a mod etc there is always at least 50 empty locked .tmp folders (lost count of the number of times I've deleted them) they are all variously named but all start with MSI.. what are they & how can I prevent them from being continuously created.
Just bought a new cyberpowerpc from Fry's, installed a 3rd hard drive (Western Digital 3TB). Everything seems okay except when I try to copy any large files/folders to the new drive. I'm using a folder that is 11.3GB with 686 files. I can copy it from drive 1 to drive 2 no problem. When I copy it from drive 1 or drive 2 to the third drive (the 3TB one), it will start copying then sometime soon after, explorer will close itself down and the computer will end up rebooting itself. Sometimes there will be a BSOD and sometimes it will just reboot without the BSOD.
I have tried to attach the dmp files etc...using the recommendations of the forum. I'd like to use this new drive for backups (it's the reason I got a new pc, my old one crashed and I didn't have a good backup system).
Wondering if there should be a STICKY, GROUPS or THREADS for TIPS and TRICKS? in this forum -combined perhaps with a wish list that we can send to MSFT every month
Anyway, one thing I really like about OS X is the ability to drag a folder from desktop to computer, then the window auto opens, displaying root, then you can drag over another folder (which opens to display sub root) and so on until you find the place where you want to dump the folder.
Is there a way to do this in Win 7 (or Vista)?
EDIT: NEW = it will allow you to drag a folder from desktop to start button than into my documents folder. Not bad but better than nothing. All we need now is for my documents to open and have it display sub folders and/or the ability to drag anywhere. Advice?
I have an old hard drive with a ton of pictures and other irreplaceable files on it from a computer I had few years back. In case it makes any difference, the computer that hard drive originally was in ran Windows XP Pro.I recently got a new computer, with Windows 7 and had the hard drive put into this new computer, along with the hard drive that came in the computer.I can get to the drive itself, but when I try to access folders or files, either access is denied or folders which should contain more folders, are empty. I have tried changing the permission and ownership options on the drive, but no luck.
I have a 500gb seagate external hard drive, and already used 240gb space. It worked fine until yesterday suddenly i could not access the files at all. I checked disk management, and it showed that my external drive became RAW drive. I tried to do chkdsk that I learned from one of the forum, and then it somehow has fixed the RAW drive back to FAT32. However I still cannot see any of my files. I opened command prompt, and typed in dir /a and it said 0 files 0 bytes, 4 DIR 288,714, 293, 248 bytes free. How can I bring my files back?? I don't want to lose my files.
I need some direction (or reassurance) about setting up a new Win 7 system using an older Win 7 user folder.I had Win 7 Ultimate on an HP with the user folders on a separate internal drive. The HP died; the drive with the user folders is intact.his user folder has almost 400 GB of data that we need to keep as is. (My wife's a video producer with several projects in work.)I bought a new Lenovo with Win 7 Home Premium. I set up user accounts (on the system drive) and then added the drive with the HP user accounts. I made the necessary registry changes to access the added drive for user folders. Upon booting, I checked the properties of my user folder on the drive I added and it reported 0 bytes!! I didn't want to risk losing that data so I shut it down. My original user folder still has everything I want and need.
I know the user folder has data for my applications. Is there data in the user folder specific for the computer I'm on? If so, what do I merge from the Lenovo user folder with my big user folder? If not, was the "0 byte report" a fluke?Also, would I be better off installing all my applications before incorporating this big user folder? I have not yet installed the Adobe software that will be using most of the data in the user folder.
I've just recently realized that copying folders to a backup hard drive resets their "created" date. Should my computer ever crash, all my backup files will state to have just been created on that certain date. Me, being the organize-freak I am, have been looking for a solution so my backed up files can have the same time stamps as on my computer right now. I've done a little searching, and have found that people always recommend Robocopy. Problem is, I can't understand a word of the tutorials. How to run Robocopy to carry out what I want? And also just for the heck of it, is Robocopy the only solution? Is there some sort of back up program on Windows 7 that can do that?
I just spent like 18 hours copying 600K files, 1.33 TB, from a USB 2.0 ext. drive to a 1.36 TB USB 3.0 partition, but at the very end I got a handful of prompts to replace folders that already existed in the newly created folder, asked me to merge the original folder with the one just copied on the destination drive, eventually asking for permission to replace thousands of items and that's what it's doing now. I don't know what's going on. It appears that all files are there in both folders on each drive (with the exception of half a dozen that wouldn't copy due to long filenames).
Nearest I can guess is it is writing DOS names in addition to Windows names so the computer is going to spend more than a dozen more hours doing that. I know there are a myriad of slave drive access issue posts on here. My thing is that I've managed to take ownership of my slave drive; formerly in a tower - now trying to access it thru my windows 7 laptop. Ive taken ownership of " my documents," but it doesn't seem like it took; I still have to take ownership of every folder in it individually when I go into it. Furthermore, when I going into my music or video folders - I get a "file not found" error when I try to open the files.
i use BitLord to download random stuff anyways the Downloads Folder Shows up like this : Now when i open Nero up it shows this Weird thing is if i hover over the folder from normal window it says the Downloads folder is only 800mb (as it is only showing me one item) yet from Nero it says the folder is over 9 Gigs. Im set as Owner of the folder and i have all permissions set for me however i am still unable to see these files outside of nero and i don't know why.When i go and try to change the permissions on the folders (the locked ones) windows says the files/folders doesn't exist...
