I recently purchased a Lenovo Thinkpad Edge E520 Laptop with 8GB RAM & Windows 7 Home Premium on 20th August 2012..For the whole time I have the laptop turned on at the top left side of the laptop I can hear repetative scratching / clicking sounds, Can someone please help me with this as i'm worried if I should get it fixed as soon as possible!
View 13 RepliesA friend of mine re-installed his Windows 7 64 bit several weeks ago.Now, everytime he plays some music on the WMP or watch videoclip on the popular video websites, or either watching a movie on KMPlayer there are some noises every with interval 3~7s and duration no more than 1s, from what he told me they sound like scratching or something. He doesn't experience any problems while playing games.
He is using Windows 7 SP1/64bit,
GeForge 9800GT/GTX
4 gigabytes of ram
and core2quad intel processor.
Couple of days ago he installed VirtualBox to test 1 program compability on XP, when the windows got installed he went to watch a video while drivers are installing and noticed that the problem was gone. Though, if the virtual machine is offline the problem persists, while if its in it's gone. I can't really explain that thing to myself, my brain can't perform such a process. It's like something happening on Jupiter to influence the size of my d...Things done so far: Re-installed the newest drivers several times, tried with couple packets of older drivers, re-installing of old/new video drivers, older versions than DX11, removing all the drivers completely, no change. he recorded 1 minute of the video he was watching with Bandicam, he said he heard the sounds 15~20 times in that 1min of video, I didn't heard anything other than the video sound.
*Re-installing/changing the OS is not an option, as he will have a lot of important data loss.
*He won't pay 35EU for new sound card just because of some assumptions, while it was perfectly fine 30 minutes before he re-installed, nor I will advise him to do so.
The problem is my laptop/notebook always making the "click" sound (the sound that like you open a folder in windows) although I am not doing anything. When I turn off my laptop today, then I opened my laptop for the next day it making the same problem. I don't know how it's happened. I am using windows 7.

I tried different things in control panel under "sounds" but was unable to fix this? The weird problem is, it doesn't make the click noise on a fresh install of Windows 7, and also does not make the noise when I installed Ubuntu linux as a test.
It only starts making the click noise on a restart/shutdown after installing Windows updates.
Other than that, my PSU and HDD both perform as if they were brand new. I am having no power issues, and my HDD is reading/writing perfectly fine and has passed both diagnostics and surface checks. EDIT: I seem to have found the culprit, it was a faulty and outdated AMD SATA controller driver provided by Windows update. Installed 11.4 AHCI SATA controller and the clicking has now stopped.
problem in making my laptop a virtual wi-fi hotspot using Virtual Router Manager.Earlier it worked perfectly, I successfully surfed the internet on my mobile phone with my laptop as a hotspot. I loaded softwares meant for Win XP like Guitar FX Box 2.6. But I am unable to set it up properly. It does not seem to independently capture the mic/line in as host OS keeps on playing the input sound in the background. At first it didn't happen much and only happened when I was watching movies now it happens on everything I do about 4 times a day. sometimes it goes back to normal but then other times I have to press the power button and turn it off. A few days ago, I noticed that my laptop has become incredibly slow (the system will hang sometimes, and continue as per normal after a while), and this coincided with my laptop beginning to make this weird, sharp beeping sound. At first I did not pay much attention to it, but later this was joined by several BSODs, and my laptop became even slower (games that usually did not lag was now hanging halfway through, and continuing as per normal after a lengthy period of 1 minute or so). I tried to find the origin of the noise, and I think it came from my Internal hard drive sector, and thus decided to open the sector up (in hindsight I probably should not have). After I replaced it, without doing much (just doing the usual IT-amateur stuff, wiping it and blowing it a few times), my situation has now worsened to the point that startup takes a much longer time, and finally now it hangs at the "Starting Windows" screen, but without the Windows 7 logo showing, and my screen later turns black.

All sound comes out digitized when loading a new page.Is there a way to stop this from happening while listening to music or course material without gong back to analog?Can I have my digital CD quality and enjoy it too!

I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus. [code] I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have hp dv1738od and have upgraded to Windows 7, previously Windows XP. Everything seem to be working ok except, for the sound. Window 7 automatically installed the driver, and said the sound card was working properly. But there was no sound through speaker.
I removed the driver and reinstall the driver that I got from HP website that work for Window Vista. Installation went through with no problem and Device manager indicated no isssue on sound driver. However there was still no sound coming out from the speaker, only through headphone jack.
I read tons of forums, and some has suggested that it may be the jack connection. I tried plugging in and out numerous time, and that did not solve the issue. Sound could be heard for like a sec, when headphone was being plugged out but it goes away quickly. To determine if it was hardware or software issue, i reinstalled Window XP and there was sound through speaker. So for sure it is not the speaker issue.

There is a red 'x' over the speaker icon and says "No speakers or headphones are plugged in". They claim they didn't touch the sound.
Anyway, it says my driver is up to date. I have done System Restore, uninstalled the audio, but nothing has changed.
