While I was checking my email today my computer started clicking like someone using a type writer very fast. I have run my virus protecter scan and I can't get rid of it.I am running Windows7. Have I got a virus?
View 3 RepliesWhen a sound plays on the computer, it makes a funny clicking noise at the end of it almost like it has got stuck- The problem can be temporary solved by changing the audio settings but when you log off and back on the problem still persists.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn the last hour I've experienced 3 BSODs, all of which happened after installing a new version of the audio driver (which I did after removing the old version using an official utility), and two of which happened when playing CS:GO. The first one happened outside any game, so it could be a coincidence and may not be related to CS:GO. I'm attaching the SF Tool results and the CPU Z screenshots as instructed in the sticky.I re-launched CS:GO and played for some minutes and got another BSOD. I set Windows to not restart when a BSOD appears, and noticed there's a constant buzzing sound, so this is definitely audio-driver related, but I did use the official utility to uninstall the old one and I did install the latest one instead, so what else can I do?

View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer tower has begun recently making a "clicking" noise on Restart/Shutdown and I am having trouble finding out if it is my HDD or my PSU making the noise.
The weird problem is, it doesn't make the click noise on a fresh install of Windows 7, and also does not make the noise when I installed Ubuntu linux as a test.
It only starts making the click noise on a restart/shutdown after installing Windows updates.
Other than that, my PSU and HDD both perform as if they were brand new. I am having no power issues, and my HDD is reading/writing perfectly fine and has passed both diagnostics and surface checks. EDIT: I seem to have found the culprit, it was a faulty and outdated AMD SATA controller driver provided by Windows update. Installed 11.4 AHCI SATA controller and the clicking has now stopped.
I've used a wav file from SNL ("Candy Gram") to announce the receipt of e-mails, in Win-98, Win2K, and XP. Now, when I substitute this file for use as my mail notification in Win-7, it works fine, once, and then stops. It then defaults to the original sound.

I get a sound exactly like email notification every hour. I have turned off every possible source of notification sounds I can locate, but cannot stop this hourly chime. I have noticed that rec task is scheduled hourly in task scheduler but cannot fine any indication that it has a notification button. I can, and do, mute the speakers for most of the day but when listening to audio/movies the sound comes through the speakers loud and clear.

(2) My two Seagate 500GB, 1TB externals record disk temps over 45�C & climbing after a couple of hours running idle with an ambient temp of 22�C. This seems way too high - what do you think? I have a couple of days left to return the 1TB.
Whenever I'm checking for any updates (vaio care or ATI) a pop up window appears "Internet explorer has stopped working". And error reporting fails. The process linked with it is werFault.exe. I don't know what to do.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a Toshiba laptop which used to have Vista 32-bit on it.Yesterday I put in all the Toshiba drivers and ran chkdsk and am pretty sure it was ok.I ran chkdsk tonight and got a message that was so quick I can barely read it, but on reboot at the end it says "A disk checking has been scheduled. Disk checking has been cancelled" which comes and goes very quickly.In BootExecute in the registry it seems OK and shows it as "autocheck autochk*".

Whenever I open up itunes, or I open up winamp, or I open up any AUDIO/DISC related program, my CD drive makes a clunking noise, and checks to see if a disc is in there. The little CD symbol next to my mouse shows up, and then it stops.This happens EVERY time i open winamp, and every time i open itunes.Whats worse about itunes, is it checks the CD drive every 3-4 minutes while itunes is open. Its VERY annoying because when it does this, it freezes iTunes for a second or two.
It also does the disc-check, every time I wake up from sleep mode.Ive had to stop using itunes complletely because of this.oh yea, and my DISC DRIVE IS EMPTY. There is NO disc in the drive ANY time this happens.
I just got a used laptop, popped in a new hard drive, and installed a legit version of Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. Everything went smoothly, it picked up on all my devices & installed drivers correctly. The only problem is - I can't update Windows. When I go to start--> all programs--> windows update, it goes to "checking for updates" and does that - forever and ever - even if I leave it go overnight.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have installed a legit Windows 7 OS on my laptop. Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below:
1. No Anti-virus programs installed yet - brand new Windows 7 ultimate installation
2. There is no spyware - its a brand new clean install
3. Firewall shut off
4. Temp files, cookies, history cleared
5. background intelligent transfer service set to automatic in services.msc
6. software distribution folder renamed
7. tried shutting off automatic updates and doing it manually
8. Added windowsupdate to trust zone
9. ran MicrosoftFixit50202 in normal and advanced mode
Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available".
I have windows 7 64 bit sp1, and when i check for updates it checks for updates with no results. I have let it run overnight and still nothing. It says checking for updates with the green line going back and forth, but never gets any results. Can someone help me with this it is very frustrating.

When i didn't press any key to escape the message it remained static like that for over an hour. Can anyone explain what is happening and how can i maintain a healthy disk in the first place to avoid this message?
I need a way of monitoring if performance cpu stuttering is going on. It seems like it is as in games the screen stutters when it was smooth before. How can I monitor this or check for this? What is causing this?
