I've used a wav file from SNL ("Candy Gram") to announce the receipt of e-mails, in Win-98, Win2K, and XP. Now, when I substitute this file for use as my mail notification in Win-7, it works fine, once, and then stops. It then defaults to the original sound.

I get a sound exactly like email notification every hour. I have turned off every possible source of notification sounds I can locate, but cannot stop this hourly chime. I have noticed that rec task is scheduled hourly in task scheduler but cannot fine any indication that it has a notification button. I can, and do, mute the speakers for most of the day but when listening to audio/movies the sound comes through the speakers loud and clear.
this is my first post here, using windows 7 machine, i want to know is there is any kind of setting that needs to be done or any type of software available that can send me email, whenever my computer is accessed.
Is it possible to have an email notification on the logon screen? My wife & I share a PC so we have 2 logon icons on the opening screen - for he & me.Under XP you'd get a notification that email was waiting. I'm not bothered, but my wife would like that so she can just glance at the logon screen without logging on to see if there is email for her.
I do not understand MS making Vista's Windows Calendar unavailable in Windows7. Live only provides for an email notification, where Windows Calendar reminded me at various time/date setable stages (eg. weeks to hours) with pop-up notifications on my desktop, as I do not continuously keep mail on my desktop and do not check my email continuously. I require various setable time/date notifications to pop-up on my desktop (eg. "in an hour I need to get ready for my doctor's appointment"). I don't wish to have my telephone wake-up service to do the job my Vista Windows Calendar used to do and I do not wish to have to revert to Windows Vista to obtain what I used to have. Some Windows7 programmer got ahead of him/herself and took away a useful tool and I want it back! Is there a method for installing Vista's Windows Calendar on Windows7 and retain the pop-up notifications, or is there another program (even at a charge) available the provides setable time/day/week pop-up notifications on the desktop?
I have a number of Windows 7 laptops that have to have automatic timeouts that lock the screen. However, when the screen locks, I no longer am able to hear the Windows 7 email notification sound from outlook when exchange sends it a message and have no notification of new emails. Is there a way to force Windows 7 to display this information. I know it is possible in Windows 8, but I can't find anything on Windows 7.
I have just started using a new Windows 7 laptop. In Windows Live Mail Version 2011 (15.4.3538.513), when a new mail is downloaded from the IMAP server, there is no sound or popup notification. I think that all necessary sound / notification settings are properly checked in Windows Live Mail > Mail > Options. My sound is ok. I even get a windows default sound, when some error is notified in Windows Live Mail. I have been using OE (under XP) and WinMail (under Vista), and this problem does not happen there.
From the Internet I downloaded the sound that I want, Master I have mail for you, and "gotmail07" is in my, Recent Downloads. In Control Panel, Sounds, I clicked on, New Mail Notification, (which has a sound icon in front of it), I imported "gotmail07" and under, Sound Scheme, the system automatically entered, Windows Default, Modified, which I saved. When the test button is clicked the sound does come on BUT there is NO sound when new mail arrives when Yahoo mail is opened. Also, when Yahoo email is opened I went to Tools, Internet Options, Advance, and there IS a check mark for both, Play system sounds and under Media, Play sounds in web pages. Also, there is NO icon for when new mail arrives in the lower right area where the time & date appears.
When I change a file and then close it I get no sound when the pop up ask if i want to make changes. I tried different things in control panel under "sounds" but was unable to fix this? I assigned a sound to "menu-pop up" and "close program" but when, for instance, I open a note pad document, change a letter and close it a window opens asking me if I want to save changes but I still don't here a sound like I do in XP?
While I was checking my email today my computer started clicking like someone using a type writer very fast. I have run my virus protecter scan and I can't get rid of it.I am running Windows7. Have I got a virus?
I don't remember the exact date, but before, whenever I startup my laptop, I always have the Dolby notification icon in the bottom right. But now, I don't know what I did, the notification icon never appears for Dolby. The settings for that icon is set to "Show" but whenever I click on it again, it says "This notification is currently not active" Eventhough, I'm pretty sure it's on.I tried reinstalling, but I keep getting error messages once it's reinstalled. So I have to use System Restore, and this has been driving me nuts...and this keeps going in circles.I think there is something wrong with the registry of this program. When I go to the program location, I have a Dolby Profile Selector, Dolby Profile Editor, and Dolby Profile Launcher...I am so confused now, as I always had the Notification Icon available.I can add Dolby to the Startup Folder, but when turning on the laptop, the entire Dolby profile pops up when Windows 7 boots, and that was not what happened before?
I often want to send an email attachment from my desktop or other directory. When I right click on the file, and click send to email recipient, i get an error telling me no email program is associated to perform this action.I don't have any stand alone email program s installed. I strictly use web based email (gmail & hotmail) as my mail programs. I do not wish to install a stand alone program such as outlook or Thunderbird. How can I associate my request to email to a recipient to automatically go to my web based email platform (gmail or hotmail) and send the mail?I cant seem to find a hack or a small program to install to tell Windows 7 to use my web based email as my program!
I've been running XP for some years and recently set up Win 7 on a new SSD. In XP and using Opera browser, if I clicked on an web page's email link, my email client (Sylpheed) would open with the address inserted. With Win 7 and the email defaults set, it won't. Instead, it always returns an "Internal communication error" page (example link: Contact Us | PCWorld). Below are screenshots of my Win 7 email defaults and Opera preferences setting. One thing I'm not sure about, if it's at all relevant, is where Opera is picking up the default application from. In XP, it picked up Opera email as the default. The Other Application file location shown is exactly the same in both, except for the drive letter.
I have Windows 7 64-bit pro with Outlook 2010 installed on a Dell laptop. Is there a way to configure Outlook email to sync with my work email? Activesync works perfectly on my phone so that portion of the network is open at my work. I have been doing some reaserch and in order to get Outlook to sync with Exchange Server without VPN, RPC over HTTP or Outlook Anywhere must be enabled on the network. I know for a fact that our IT department have that portion disabled.
can use a network router to network two desktops (windows 8) and two laptops (windows 7, xp) using wired and wireless connection, so that i can share files, printers and use remote desktop and host a basic email sever between the four computer without an internet connection if i can how would host the email sever over the router so that email can be sent between the computer i plan to use mercury mail server and have not got a router yet.
The husband uses Windows Live as his email client and the wife uses direct Road Runner. They both use the same computer.hen the husband tries to send email to his wife's email acct, she never receives it.Yet he can send emails to me and I am a Road Runner email address. So I know that his Windows Live is set up correctly. His wife's email is working fine directly through Road Runner as she can send and receive emails.SO... Seems to me the issue has something to do with using the same computer and he never signs out of Windows Live. (I personally use Outlook as I am a business and am not familiar with Windows Live)
When in the my document folder - there is an option to highlight a file and click the "Email" link which is present on the light blue bar at the top of the screen. On another Windows 7 machine I have seen - a dialogue box pops up when you click this link and you can choose which email client to send this the file to.Does anybody know how I can make this happen - and get such a dialogue box to show options for AOL 9.6 software and or Outlook 2007 / Windows Mail. I have all 3 running on my system and different email accounts setup in all (happy to leave it that way).
I get this error message when i boot up Windows 7:Wireless Configuration: Notification dll has not been registered, program will not work correctly. When i turn it on it goes into Windows Error Recovery mode and only gives me the options of Safe Mode or Start Windows normally.Whichever I choose looks like it's loading up but when it gets to the blue Win 7 Welcome screen the error message pops up.The only option is to click OK. When I do, nothing happens the page blinks on and off and won't go any further until I do a hard shut down. Before this happened i was trying to uninstall Windows live messenger.
Off without any message and when switch on again, does not open.shall remove the battery and leave 1 hour off.after press power button, it starts to open the black page and off again. sometimes when passing this stage, but will freeze regularly switches the screen and have to detract from the currents that off.restart fails to do ever. made and formatting clean but still the same problem.
Apparently some scheduler got activated which I have no idea Why, I did not activate it. I have never received this notification from Java before asking my permission to make changes on my computer. I click No.I tried to fix it by hiding notifications on the desktop (see attached), but it did not do a job - I still get them. How to make Java stop sending these damn notifications? I get them like every so often.
Widows Firewall keeps popping a notification that host process for windows services Windows Firewall is blocking a inbound from WHS which I assume means Windows Home Server. The problem is I do not have a WHS so why would it keep trying to contact me?
My notification area always displays all icons and notifications, but when I want to customize those systray icons, for some reason I can no longer use "Restore default icon behaviors" or make any other customations. In window "Select which icons and notifications appear on the taskbar" all the options beneath "Behaviors" are inaccessable (showing 'Only show notifications' in a greyed out fashion). Also, when trying to click on any icon beneath "Icons" nothing happens.
At the bottom the selection option "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" is greyed out and its checkbox unmarked.
When I click on "Turn system icons on or off" I get the correct window ("Turn system icons on or off"), and "Behaviors" are accessable. However, when clicking "Restore default icon behaviors" nothing happens. Clicking on "Customize notification icons" brings me back to the "Select which icons..." window with those non working options.
I have tried Brink's tutorial "How to Hide or Show System Icons and Notifications in Windows 7", but no matter which of the included .reg files I merge, nothing changes and "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar" stays greyed out with its checkbox unmarked.
Otherwhise, my system (Windows 7 64-bit Ultimate) runs great, I just cannot make some systray customations that I would now like to.
I have some programs that have I have uninstalled but when I click on customize notification area, they are still in that list. How can I clear the list of old programs?
The notification area also does NOT show my bluetooth icon which I set to "show icon and notifications"It was there before but no longer there. I've tried restarting my computer but it doesn't fix the problem.
Ok I was able to clean up the notification area but it still does NOT show my bluetooth icon while I have a bluetooth dongle inserted in the USB.Whenever I set it to show icon and notification, it tells me that "This notification icon is not currently active. It will be shown the next time it becomes active." But it always showed the icon in the past even when i wasnt using it.I noticed that every time I set it to show icon and notifications, it keeps resetting back to only show notifications when i go back to the customization windows
I appear to have the prescribed resolution but there is definitely something wrong, e.g.photoghaphs on continuous screensaver appear in black and white and returning to the screen from the screensaver takes a while.
