View 2 RepliesHow do I recall a password? I can't login since I don't remember the password or hit a wrong key
View 6 Replies View Relatedi bought a laptop for my daughter awhile back. I set up a user account as the administrator being me. The issue I am having is the admn password keeps expiring. So I have to reset the password. This time I can't recall the password I previously used? I need to download a antivirus program I recently purchased for the laptop but I can't because the pc is requiring me to do this from my user account(admn account). I can't remember the password for the admn account? On top of that, I thought that the admn user account would say administrator under the account icon? I may be incorrect in recalling that though. Anyhow, I really need some help in figuring out how to reset my password so I can download the antivirus software on the pc. Also, is there a way to disable the password expiring? I am so frustrated over this. I tried everything I could think of to access my user account but no luck.

(2) My two Seagate 500GB, 1TB externals record disk temps over 45C & climbing after a couple of hours running idle with an ambient temp of 22C. This seems way too high - what do you think? I have a couple of days left to return the 1TB.
Whenever I'm checking for any updates (vaio care or ATI) a pop up window appears "Internet explorer has stopped working". And error reporting fails. The process linked with it is werFault.exe. I don't know what to do.
View 1 Replies View RelatedEvery time I start my computer I get this message;Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency. You can cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. To skip disk checking, press any key within(10)seconds.I have allowed it to continue numerous times, but it makes no difference, this same error comes up every time I start my computer, now I just press a key within 10 seconds and that gets rid of it.

I am using MSE and Panda as my anti Virus--and Malwarebytes also. I scanned with all of them yesterday and they say my computer is free form anything malicious. View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed Windows 7 SP1 64-bit on a Toshiba laptop which used to have Vista 32-bit on it.Yesterday I put in all the Toshiba drivers and ran chkdsk and am pretty sure it was ok.I ran chkdsk tonight and got a message that was so quick I can barely read it, but on reboot at the end it says "A disk checking has been scheduled. Disk checking has been cancelled" which comes and goes very quickly. In BootExecute in the registry it seems OK and shows it as "autocheck autochk*".

Whenever I open up itunes, or I open up winamp, or I open up any AUDIO/DISC related program, my CD drive makes a clunking noise, and checks to see if a disc is in there. The little CD symbol next to my mouse shows up, and then it stops. This happens EVERY time i open winamp, and every time i open itunes.Whats worse about itunes, is it checks the CD drive every 3-4 minutes while itunes is open. Its VERY annoying because when it does this, it freezes iTunes for a second or two.
It also does the disc-check, every time I wake up from sleep mode.Ive had to stop using itunes complletely because of this.oh yea, and my DISC DRIVE IS EMPTY. There is NO disc in the drive ANY time this happens.
I just got a used laptop, popped in a new hard drive, and installed a legit version of Windows 7 Ultimate from scratch. Everything went smoothly, it picked up on all my devices & installed drivers correctly. The only problem is - I can't update Windows. When I go to start--> all programs--> windows update, it goes to "checking for updates" and does that - forever and ever - even if I leave it go overnight.

View 10 Replies View RelatedI have installed a legit Windows 7 OS on my laptop. Its not an upgrade, it was a blank hard drive. WIndows 7 installed flawlessly, picked up all my drivers. The only problem is I am having problems with Windows 7 updates. When I choose Windows 7 update, it says "Checking for updates" and stays like that - forever. Even the next day. I did heavy heavy research, found out others are having the same problem. I tried all the fixes I could find, which are listed below:
1. No Anti-virus programs installed yet - brand new Windows 7 ultimate installation
2. There is no spyware - its a brand new clean install
3. Firewall shut off
4. Temp files, cookies, history cleared
5. background intelligent transfer service set to automatic in services.msc
6. software distribution folder renamed
7. tried shutting off automatic updates and doing it manually
8. Added windowsupdate to trust zone
9. ran MicrosoftFixit50202 in normal and advanced mode
Even with my internet SHUT OFF (turned off modem) it still checks for updates and doesn't fail with "No internet connection available".
I have windows 7 64 bit sp1, and when i check for updates it checks for updates with no results. I have let it run overnight and still nothing. It says checking for updates with the green line going back and forth, but never gets any results. Can someone help me with this it is very frustrating.

View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen i startup my new-ish laptop (Dell 64bit i7processor running windows 7) i keep getting a black screen with a message in white letters reading:-
"Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is OS. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. To skip disk checking, press any key within 10 seconds."
When i didn't press any key to escape the message it remained static like that for over an hour. Can anyone explain what is happening and how can i maintain a healthy disk in the first place to avoid this message?
I need a way of monitoring if performance cpu stuttering is going on. It seems like it is as in games the screen stutters when it was smooth before. How can I monitor this or check for this? What is causing this?
View 2 Replies View RelatedThe last couple of times I've booted up Windows 7, prior to launching the OS, It has felt the need to perform some sort of drive error checking task, and as far as I know, I haven't scheduled any 'checking for errors' type-tasks for my hard drive.
What's going on?

View 2 Replies View RelatedJust purchased HP Pavillion dv-7-2273cl Entertainment Notebook. I haven't installed any programs yet. It did an online Windows update.
At boot it stops and gives me this msg: Checking file system on c: file type is NTFS (blah blah) one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.
Words close to that anyway. It counts down to check or skip but stops at 1 second to press any key. I ran diagnostics on all hardware, everything checks out OK. I haven't done any reconfiguring or added any hardware. This is out of the box preinstalled.
I was trying to backup my flash drive and all of a sudden, it did not work. I kept plugging my flash drive in and out but that did not work.
