When I turn on my E-Machines computer for startup I sometimes get a massage "Checking NVRAM and it hags there. If I pull the power cord and reinsert it the machine will come up properly.

"Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. Volume label is OS. One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. To skip disk checking, press any key within 10 seconds."
When i didn't press any key to escape the message it remained static like that for over an hour. Can anyone explain what is happening and how can i maintain a healthy disk in the first place to avoid this message?
I was trying to backup my flash drive and all of a sudden, it did not work. I kept plugging my flash drive in and out but that did not work. PS: I used Vista Boot Pro, and for the boot loader option, I clicked Install Longhorn Bootloader. Could this be the problem?
I installed clean via USB flash this morning, Win 7 Ultimate.
Expanding files was stuck at 0% for a few minutes. So, I unplugged a single USB device and install proceeded. All readers take note of this SF learned 'fix'.
That is when I noticed that my DVD drive was spinning. I had neglected to remove the DVD after copying it to the thumb. I ejected the drive and the install interrupted.
Even though I specifically selected to boot from the thumb (via F8), I was indeed installing from the DVD. I did not recv the standard 'Press Any Key To Boot From CD/DVD'.
I am not willing to perform any tests on this at this time. A new clean install is likely in my near future as I continue to test VMs and other apps. But, I am curious. I will assume that I did not deviate from the process described above. I was neither tired nor stoned. I specifically selected to boot from the thumb.
Did Windows install see the DVD and make a jump from the thumb to the ODD?
when i put the cd of window 7 in cd rom there is no message to press any key to boot cd
View 3 Replies View RelatedI try to install Windows 7 on my system, but when i insert the dvd with the .ISO of windows 7 64-bit into my drive, i select boot from my DVD drive on start up, and the screen goes black, but nothing happens, and it starts my Windows XP.
Oh, and ive also re-burned the .ISO at the lowest speed, multiple times. No luck.
When I try to turn on my comp. I get a message saying boot disc failureinsert system disc and press enter.If I switch off and try again it usually works o.k.occassionally I have to try several times. What is wrong, and how do I fix it. Also, is it on the brink of complete failure?

If I let it run, it eventually goes to all black on the screen, the disk runs and runs - I let it run for two days once - and nothing happens.
If I "hit any key" as instructed it goes to the Windows boot and all appears to be well. I guess I shouldn't complain, but I really hate the whole "disk check" screen thing, and would like to get rid of it. How can I do that?

I bought another HDD and decide to add a second drive with windows XP.I ended up with a system which had windows 7 shown twice on boot up and only one would bring up windows 7. Windows XP was missing. I removed the second drive and it worked fine but I still had 2 Win 7 prompts on boot up.I have a virus or root kit which I can't find or remove so I decided to format the C partition and reload windows 7. The problem is although I have the bios set to boot from the cd with the Win 7 disk, it comes up with the boot manager missing message and I can't get around this.I tried another HDD and get the same message. View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer Aspire one. It came with XP and I have it dual booting into Windows 7 which is working well which I installed from a USB Drive as this model doesnt have a CD Drive.
In the main boot screen it says "Earlier version of Windows" For XP and "Windows 7" for windows 7. All was working well until yesterday...
Now I can't boot into "Earlier version of Windows" i.e. XP. It gives me the C:\windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt message. I can boot into Windows 7 fine but all of my work stuff is on the XP platform (I know I can access the files from "7" but I need to get it operational again).
Any ideas? Can I do a repair from the USB Drive?..I've tried a couple of things to boot from the USB Drive but to no avail. And I can't find the BOOT.INI file from XP (I think it gets moved to Windows 7's hidden boot partition when I installed it. I cant seem to access that partition either).
After i press the on button of my HP pavillion, a pause of a few seconds occurs before it will start up. I get a message critiaclo error for boot performance in the event file.
