DVD/CD Drive From Constantly Checking For Discs?
Jun 27, 2012
The Offender DVD/CD Drive: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ8A2ASW
Computer:
Asus u56e laptop, windows 7 64bit.
Whenever I open up itunes, or I open up winamp, or I open up any AUDIO/DISC related program, my CD drive makes a clunking noise, and checks to see if a disc is in there. The little CD symbol next to my mouse shows up, and then it stops. This happens EVERY time i open winamp, and every time i open itunes.Whats worse about itunes, is it checks the CD drive every 3-4 minutes while itunes is open. Its VERY annoying because when it does this, it freezes iTunes for a second or two.
It also does the disc-check, every time I wake up from sleep mode.Ive had to stop using itunes complletely because of this.oh yea, and my DISC DRIVE IS EMPTY. There is NO disc in the drive ANY time this happens.

The last couple of times I've booted up Windows 7, prior to launching the OS, It has felt the need to perform some sort of drive error checking task, and as far as I know, I haven't scheduled any 'checking for errors' type-tasks for my hard drive.
What's going on?

Just purchased HP Pavillion dv-7-2273cl Entertainment Notebook. I haven't installed any programs yet. It did an online Windows update.
At boot it stops and gives me this msg: Checking file system on c: file type is NTFS (blah blah) one of your disks needs to be checked for consistency.
Words close to that anyway. It counts down to check or skip but stops at 1 second to press any key. I ran diagnostics on all hardware, everything checks out OK. I haven't done any reconfiguring or added any hardware. This is out of the box preinstalled.

The problem is I have two DVD Combo drives. Both of them are not working unfortunately. The drives will take the CD/DVD in but doesn't read anything. When I called a professional he informed me the computer is outdated and I need to update . So I took his advice and updated the MOBO and processor. I kept the other components as it is. After upgrading the drives were working fine. Then all of a sudden I have the same issues again. This time atleast I want to check with the great minds here to see if I can get a help. Lemme tell you I am no noob when it comes to computers but not an geek too. I know how to execute the solution you guys are gonna give me. Here is my config.
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit
Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5700 @ 3.00GHz, x64 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 2047 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8400 GS (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1), 512 Mb
Hard Drives: 1x500GB SATA @7200rpm , 1x250GB SATA @7200rpm
Motherboard: ASUSTeK Computer INC., P5G41T-M LX
Antivirus: Norton Internet Security, Updated and Enabled
Optical Drives:
1 x HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS70 ATA Device - SATA
1 x HL-DT-ST DVD-RAM GSA-H55N ATA Device - IDE
To give you heads up I have Googled the issue and found some so called solutions but nothing worked for me.
1. Changing the Link State Power Management settings.
2. There are no upper and lower filters so I couldn't do anything more.
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.

OS: Windows 7 Pro
CD Drive: HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244 ATA
Computer recognizes the drive, but no CD or DVD is recognized. When anything is inserted, the drive is completely silent. I try to open the drive, then it ejects the CD or DVD automatically.
I have uninstalled and rebooted....it automatically reinstalled upon rebooting, but no changes. I tried the Microsoft website automatic fix, but it didn't work either. Says the driver has the latest version.

A couple months ago I installed a new graphics card in my computer. In the last few days I have realized that my dvd drive will open and windows says its working fine but no matter what I do it will not recognize that a disc is in the drive. I have used it very little, and possibly never since I installed the new graphics card so I went into my computer to see if there were any loose cables but I saw none. I also uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers for the thing but still no success.

It worked perfectly yesterday, but when I tried to author a blank DVD with DVDFlick today, it just stopped working. I have authored many, many DVDs with DVDFlick before, so I doubt that caused the problem.
I have tried to get it to read DVDs, CDs and miniCDs, but it refuses to recognize any of them. It won't even recognize the disc at boot-time. I've gone through every support website I could find. I've downloaded several Microsoft troubleshooting utilities, and they all say something to the effect of "The disc in drive D: is not detected, or is not supported".
My computer is almost new; only about six months old, so I sure hope the drive hasn't failed on me already.

For some reason my dvd drive is not reading discs. It has been working before, and now it doesnt seem to read any discs i put in the drive. It also doesnt make any noise or any sign that it is in. My problem is is that the dvd drive isnt recognizing the dvd's i put. Even if if put a disc in the drive the D drive says that there is no discs inserted when there is. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software malfunction. I have tried:
1. deleting MousePoint2 in the registry and restarting.
2. uninstalling my cd/dvd drives then rebooting
3. deleting the upper and lower files in the registry or whatever that was
when the drive was working i remember leaving a disc in the drive then shutting down the computer.
My specs are
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit service pack 1
Dell inspiron 620
intel core i3 3.3 ghz
intel hd graphics family
6 gb ram
I had my computer for 3 months and the dvd drive isnt working is this normal that i have to replace the dvd drive?

I'm not particularly computer literate, however my desktop computer won't read discs. Whether it be a DVD, a set-up disc or even music CD's, there's a 1 in 10 chance that it will see it is there. On the odd occasion it opens, it works fine.
Currently an issue as I am trying to install wireless stick software but the disc will not load.

I have a Dell Inspiron laptop. I was running Vista and about 2 weeks ago I decided to upgrade to Windows 7. After the upgrade, things worked beautifully, but a few days ago my hard drive began running constantly and still is. Whether I leave it alone or am working on it does not seem to matter, yet system performance seems unaffected by it.
I am a novice computer user so straight forward instructions or explanations are more than welcome.

I recently purchased a OCZ Diesel 8GB USB drive and i plugged it into my computer and at first everything was fine then I tried to transfer some files onto it and kept hearing the "dadum...Dadum" as the drive kept connecting and disconnecting and now when I plug it in it wont stop doing that. Any suggestions on how I can stop this from happening or do I need to return the drive?I tried different usb ports on the front and back of my case and I put in my old USB and it worked fine. I also tried it on another computer and when installing the drivers it got hung up on "searching pre configured driver folders" and the same thing happened.

I upgraded my HP Pavilion a1540n Desktop to Windows 7 a week ago. Ever since, my hard drive light constantly blinks. After looking at the disk activity in the Windows Resource Monitor and doing some research I am leaning towards the page file as the problem. I am not sure if that is in fact the problem as there seems to be quite a few processes creating high disk activity, including Firefox profile cache, $Logfile, and MpWppTracing.bin. I only have 1GB of RAM. Would I be better served to add RAM before doing anything else like using Cacheman?

Ok so here's a little backstory before I jump into my problem. I've got 2 harddrives installed; a SSD and a regular HDD. The SSD is labeled C: since it has Windows and other core programs while the HDD is labeled B:. The solid state is almost full while the regular one still has over a terabyte of space left to fill up. Normally, I have no problem installing new programs or games to the HDD till now. When I went to install my new game on B: it kept giving me invalid directory errors. So I went to the game's forums and discovered that the reason that issue was happening was because the game recognized drive letters A and B as floppy drives as opposed to hard drive letters. Further investigation revealed that apparently this little bit of design is hardcoded into the game and there really isn't any work around except changing the drive letter. So I looked up how to do so and made the change.....then the problems started. After changing the drive letter from B: to Z: I kept getting 'path does not exist' error message with features and hardware connected to Windows on C:.
For example, my DVD-ROM drive is labeled D: and everytime I tried to install the game after the drive letter change I got 'D:\, path does not exist. make sure the path is correct and try again' error. Another example, when trying to go to Device Manager to start a fix I couldn't because of 'explorer.exe, path does not exist' error. Basically, every step I tried where anything was connected to C: or D: I got the 'path does not exist' error. At this point I've done a system restore to before the drive letter changed and I'm running as I was before trying to install the game.My question is, how do I change the driver letter of my HDD without getting all the 'path does not exist' errors? If that's not possible, how do I fix the 'path does not exist errors' when the path starts with C: or D:? Is it done the same way I would with a program through the properties tab in the target path section and start in section? Or is there something more invasive I need to do when the path issue starts with C: and D:

(1) I installed a new 1TB Seagate Baraccuda 7200.12 Installation seems fine.SeaTools (ver 1.2.0.2 and ver 1.2.04) won't detect the internal drive but detects external usb drives ok.
(2) My two Seagate 500GB, 1TB externals record disk temps over 45C & climbing after a couple of hours running idle with an ambient temp of 22C. This seems way too high - what do you think? I have a couple of days left to return the 1TB.

Every time I start my computer I get this message;Checking file system on C: The type of the file system is NTFS. One of your disk needs to be checked for consistency. You can cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue. To skip disk checking, press any key within(10)seconds.I have allowed it to continue numerous times, but it makes no difference, this same error comes up every time I start my computer, now I just press a key within 10 seconds and that gets rid of it.
