View 6 RepliesThis is a new pc. Win7, 120Gb SSD (primary C drive) 1 Tb Hdd (D), 16Gb ram. I've had it for about a month, and just wondering if i need to install a defragger for the SSD drive. I used to use Smart Defrag on my old pc and found it invaluable for keeping it up to any sort of speed. This one currently 'flies' and i wanna keep it that way.

When I called a professional he informed me the computer is outdated and I need to update . So I took his advice and updated the MOBO and processor. I kept the other components as it is. After upgrading the drives were working fine. Then all of a sudden I have the same issues again. This time atleast I want to check with the great minds here to see if I can get a help. Lemme tell you I am no noob when it comes to computers but not an geek too. I know how to execute the solution you guys are gonna give me. Here is my config.

To give you heads up I have Googled the issue and found some so called solutions but nothing worked for me.
1. Changing the Link State Power Management settings.
2. There are no upper and lower filters so I couldn't do anything more.
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
OS: Windows 7 Pro
CD Drive: HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC4244 ATA
Computer recognizes the drive, but no CD or DVD is recognized. When anything is inserted, the drive is completely silent. I try to open the drive, then it ejects the CD or DVD automatically.
I have uninstalled and rebooted....it automatically reinstalled upon rebooting, but no changes. I tried the Microsoft website automatic fix, but it didn't work either. Says the driver has the latest version.
I have a Sony Vaio E-Series VPCEC1S1E with a Combi drive optiarc bc-5500-h it will play CD/DVD's but I put in a Blu Ray and it's say "Please insert disc into drive"
the driver is up to date and I have played Blu Rays for the last year but doesn't even recognize there is a disc in the drive now the computer was preinstalled with Windows 7

View 4 Replies View RelatedA couple months ago I installed a new graphics card in my computer. In the last few days I have realized that my dvd drive will open and windows says its working fine but no matter what I do it will not recognize that a disc is in the drive. I have used it very little, and possibly never since I installed the new graphics card so I went into my computer to see if there were any loose cables but I saw none. I also uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers for the thing but still no success.
View 2 Replies View RelatedIt worked perfectly yesterday, but when I tried to author a blank DVD with DVDFlick today, it just stopped working. I have authored many, many DVDs with DVDFlick before, so I doubt that caused the problem.
I have tried to get it to read DVDs, CDs and miniCDs, but it refuses to recognize any of them. It won't even recognize the disc at boot-time. I've gone through every support website I could find. I've downloaded several Microsoft troubleshooting utilities, and they all say something to the effect of "The disc in drive D: is not detected, or is not supported".
My computer is almost new; only about six months old, so I sure hope the drive hasn't failed on me already.

For some reason my dvd drive is not reading discs. It has been working before, and now it doesnt seem to read any discs i put in the drive. It also doesnt make any noise or any sign that it is in. My problem is is that the dvd drive isnt recognizing the dvd's i put. Even if if put a disc in the drive the D drive says that there is no discs inserted when there is. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software malfunction. I have tried:
1. deleting MousePoint2 in the registry and restarting.
2. uninstalling my cd/dvd drives then rebooting
3. deleting the upper and lower files in the registry or whatever that was
when the drive was working i remember leaving a disc in the drive then shutting down the computer.
My specs are
Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit service pack 1
Dell inspiron 620
intel core i3 3.3 ghz
intel hd graphics family

I had my computer for 3 months and the dvd drive isnt working is this normal that i have to replace the dvd drive?
I'm not particularly computer literate, however my desktop computer won't read discs. Whether it be a DVD, a set-up disc or even music CD's, there's a 1 in 10 chance that it will see it is there. On the odd occasion it opens, it works fine.
Currently an issue as I am trying to install wireless stick software but the disc will not load.

Whenever I open up itunes, or I open up winamp, or I open up any AUDIO/DISC related program, my CD drive makes a clunking noise, and checks to see if a disc is in there. The little CD symbol next to my mouse shows up, and then it stops. This happens EVERY time i open winamp, and every time i open itunes.Whats worse about itunes, is it checks the CD drive every 3-4 minutes while itunes is open. Its VERY annoying because when it does this, it freezes iTunes for a second or two.
It also does the disc-check, every time I wake up from sleep mode.Ive had to stop using itunes complletely because of this.oh yea, and my DISC DRIVE IS EMPTY. There is NO disc in the drive ANY time this happens.
I am having problems with my DVD Reader and Writer drive on my Win 7 laptop. It works mostly when it wants to not when i tell it to. But it rarely wants to start working again.I have tried a few methods trying to get the DVD driver working again by:
- Using Microsoft Fix it (No problems found)
- Deleting the Upper and Lower filters (Still wont show the DVD icon - Unread disc)
- Troubleshooting (No help at all)
my dvd drive just stopped recognizing discs...the icon even dissappeared

I have a question if there is a way to install windows with a usb. I have a laptop at home which i can use to create the usb.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have ran the BSOD Dump & System File Collection app with the results attached. I attempted to run PERFMON report but was unsuccessful (Error: cannot find specified path).
I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit) and this is the original OS that was preinstalled with my laptop (ASUS G60VX). The system is approximately 2.5 years old and I have never re-installed the OS.
I continuously run system mechanic to monitor and clean out the drive and also use Norton 360 to supplement system mechanic. The system was gradually slowing down and occassionally freezing up. I upgraded the CPU with a T9600 chip and the system seemed to run fine but the temps definitely increased (fan constantly running but rpms varying with temps); I use SpeedFan to monitor temps. The lagging once again started so I had a deep scan and repair of the hard drive performed; took all night to run. This was done approximately one week ago. The system afterward now continually shuts down (BSODs) with no rhyme or reason. I do not know if it is hardware (GPU or hard drive) or software. I have re-installed the original CPU to see if this was the problem but the BSODs continue.
I am capable of operating in Windows Safe Mode with Networking.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI probably spilled some coffee on the keyboard and now I can not inactivate the mouse pad in favor of the external mouse. The only way I can eliminate the conflict is to uninstall the mouse pad. That works fine but every time I reboot for something I have to uninstall it again. As you know rebooting is common and therefore I have to reboot twice for every time I have to reboot. Anyone with a solution to this problem? This is a HP laptop. The mouse automatically installs everytime I have to reboot. I do not shut down normaly.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just set up a new computer and built in the old harddrive from a Windows XP machine. The new computer is running Windows 7 Professional 64bit SP1 (German). I can access my XP Harddrive (NTFS) but when I try to open some files (Word Documents, PDFs), i am running into problems that Windows 7 is telling me that I don't have enough rights to open that file."The document can not be opened: The user has no rights"I have read about this problem and I know that it is a problem of the user rights. The XP user that created those files is now with the new Windows 7 computer not available anymore which is causing some problems. I have to take over the rights of these files again and I am severely struggeling. I have about 1000 files in several subfolders.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a USB external hard drive that I keep all my documents etc on (had it for years)I upgraded from Vista Home to & Home Premium then had to upgrade recently to Professional to run my Sage. Through all these upgrades my ext. drive ran fine. Occasionally the drvie letter would change if I had something else plugged into the USB, this was always easily corected in disk management by changing the drive path. The connection on the case packed up so I had to get the drive put into a new case, now when I plug it in the drive is assigned G instead of F, I tried to change the drive letter allocation in Disk Management but it won't let me as the program still thinks I have a second ext. hard drive which is labelled F. I suspect this has happened because when the usb connection broke the drive was disconnected suddenly instead of a proper eject. How do I get Disk Management to remove the inactive drive - i can't find any obvious way - eject, delete etc are all missing when I click on tools or tasks.
