Computer recognizes the drive, but no CD or DVD is recognized. When anything is inserted, the drive is completely silent. I try to open the drive, then it ejects the CD or DVD automatically.
I have uninstalled and rebooted....it automatically reinstalled upon rebooting, but no changes. I tried the Microsoft website automatic fix, but it didn't work either. Says the driver has the latest version.
A couple months ago I installed a new graphics card in my computer. In the last few days I have realized that my dvd drive will open and windows says its working fine but no matter what I do it will not recognize that a disc is in the drive. I have used it very little, and possibly never since I installed the new graphics card so I went into my computer to see if there were any loose cables but I saw none. I also uninstalled then reinstalled the drivers for the thing but still no success.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm not particularly computer literate, however my desktop computer won't read discs. Whether it be a DVD, a set-up disc or even music CD's, there's a 1 in 10 chance that it will see it is there. On the odd occasion it opens, it works fine.
Currently an issue as I am trying to install wireless stick software but the disc will not load.
I have now installed win 7 three times, 64 bit and now 32 bit and have the same problem. I have read many similar problems on various forums and microsoft have been remotely on my PC for the last 2 days, and cannot resolve the I have 2 DVD RW drives, and both of them can read all types of media with no problems. When blank discs are inserted, all programs trying to access the drives just lock up. The "not responding" message will clear as soon as the disc is ejected and everything is then back to normal. If I leave the disc in the drive it will eventually recognise it after about 1.5 hours, but I can then do nothing with it.Microsoft have stated to me today that it is not an issue with Windows 7 and I should contact the manufacturers of the drives for help or updated drivers. All my drivers are showing as being up to date, and I cannot find any other drivers on the OEM websites.
Prior to purchasing, the upgrade advisor stated that I would have no issues moving from XP to WIN 7. Microsoft have informed me today that the upgrade advisor will not guarantee any piece of hardware will work correctly after win 7 install, it only indicates if any hardware will cause instability problems !!!I have an internal LITE-ON SHM-165P6S, and a USB Lightscribe drive built into my HP C8180 printer. These are 2 completely different drives that are exhibiting the same problem (only win 7 is the common theme)
The problem is I have two DVD Combo drives. Both of them are not working unfortunately. The drives will take the CD/DVD in but doesn't read anything. When I called a professional he informed me the computer is outdated and I need to update . So I took his advice and updated the MOBO and processor. I kept the other components as it is. After upgrading the drives were working fine. Then all of a sudden I have the same issues again. This time atleast I want to check with the great minds here to see if I can get a help. Lemme tell you I am no noob when it comes to computers but not an geek too. I know how to execute the solution you guys are gonna give me. Here is my config.

To give you heads up I have Googled the issue and found some so called solutions but nothing worked for me.
1. Changing the Link State Power Management settings.
2. There are no upper and lower filters so I couldn't do anything more.
3. Uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.
I have a Sony Vaio E-Series VPCEC1S1E with a Combi drive optiarc bc-5500-h it will play CD/DVD's but I put in a Blu Ray and it's say "Please insert disc into drive"
the driver is up to date and I have played Blu Rays for the last year but doesn't even recognize there is a disc in the drive now the computer was preinstalled with Windows 7

my dvd rw drive can detect only some dvd's. i checked whether ther is a problem in dvd. but it is working in other pc's.
View 4 Replies View RelatedIt worked perfectly yesterday, but when I tried to author a blank DVD with DVDFlick today, it just stopped working. I have authored many, many DVDs with DVDFlick before, so I doubt that caused the problem.
I have tried to get it to read DVDs, CDs and miniCDs, but it refuses to recognize any of them. It won't even recognize the disc at boot-time. I've gone through every support website I could find. I've downloaded several Microsoft troubleshooting utilities, and they all say something to the effect of "The disc in drive D: is not detected, or is not supported".
My computer is almost new; only about six months old, so I sure hope the drive hasn't failed on me already.

For some reason my dvd drive is not reading discs. It has been working before, and now it doesnt seem to read any discs i put in the drive. It also doesnt make any noise or any sign that it is in. My problem is is that the dvd drive isnt recognizing the dvd's i put. Even if if put a disc in the drive the D drive says that there is no discs inserted when there is. I am not sure if this is a hardware or software malfunction. I have tried:
1. deleting MousePoint2 in the registry and restarting.
2. uninstalling my cd/dvd drives then rebooting
3. deleting the upper and lower files in the registry or whatever that was
when the drive was working i remember leaving a disc in the drive then shutting down the computer.

Whenever I open up itunes, or I open up winamp, or I open up any AUDIO/DISC related program, my CD drive makes a clunking noise, and checks to see if a disc is in there. The little CD symbol next to my mouse shows up, and then it stops. This happens EVERY time i open winamp, and every time i open itunes.Whats worse about itunes, is it checks the CD drive every 3-4 minutes while itunes is open. Its VERY annoying because when it does this, it freezes iTunes for a second or two.
It also does the disc-check, every time I wake up from sleep mode.Ive had to stop using itunes complletely because of this.oh yea, and my DISC DRIVE IS EMPTY. There is NO disc in the drive ANY time this happens.
I am having problems with my DVD Reader and Writer drive on my Win 7 laptop. It works mostly when it wants to not when i tell it to. But it rarely wants to start working again.I have tried a few methods trying to get the DVD driver working again by:
- Using Microsoft Fix it (No problems found)
- Deleting the Upper and Lower filters (Still wont show the DVD icon - Unread disc)
- Troubleshooting (No help at all)
my dvd drive just stopped recognizing discs...the icon even dissappeared

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently installed windows 7 home premium 64 bit, previous OS was Vista home premium 32 bit. My desktop is an HP pavilion d4650y. I have the OS loaded on my main HD which is a SATA.
HD & DVD drive worked perfectly before on vista. I tested both devices on another pc with XP and they work fine. I've triple checked the connections but still the devices are not recognized by Windows 7. I've also tried renaming the HD & changing the drive letter, but still no luck.
Both drives are connected to a PCI E card, and are set to cable select, on separate cables. In the BIOS both drives show up. In disk management they do not show up at all.
My HD is a western digital 250 gb EIDE, and the DVD drive is a IDE Pioneer DVD burner (secondary disc drive).
I have two drives by seagate 1tb and 500gb. The 1tb drive is highspeed but when i plug it into the 3.0usb ss it does not show up. Im stuck using the 2.0 drive.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI've tried installing a couple times now and I keep on getting an error saying that I'm missing a driver for the DVD drive.
Thing is, I'm installing Win 7 using the DVD drive.
So I've looked for a driver for my drive (Lite-On LH-20A1S) and all I get from the Lite-On site is Firmware. I've also tried the USB/DVD Download Tool to make a bootable USB stick but that program says my .iso isn't valid.
I reinstalled Windows 7 initializing all the hard drives to fix the constant crashes, and it seems to have worked. The bad news is that the computer does not seem to recognize one of my CD drive. By that I mean, if you click on computer it will show one of my CD drives under devices and removable storage, but not the other CD drive.
If I put a CD in, the drive will spin up but nothing happens. I tried to reinstall the drivers for the one CD drive but that was no help. How do I get the computer to see this other CD drive?
I'm running Window 7. Should I re-install Windows 7 again?
I have a Thinkpad W500 laptop with a CD/DVD-R/RW multi drive in the UltraSlim-Bay. Windows 7 Pro 64-bit does not recognize it as a removable drive and does not provide a means to "safely remove" it.
Previously, Vista Business SP1 64-bit ran on the same hardware and handled the same optical drive correctly.
There was driver for "ez-eject" that was available from IBM/Lenovo for previous Microsoft OS. Is that what made the optical drive removable? If so, is there anything like that available for Windows 7 to correctly handle this drive as removable?
I have an ASUS laptop fairly new and I tryed playing a dvd and it won't work, says it doesnt recognise the format (normal region 2 dvd) it plays cds just fine but not dvds, ive tried updating the drivers and checking its set to the right region but they say they are up to date?
View 7 Replies View RelatedToday I did a clean install of Windows 7 on a 64 GB SSD. While it was installing my 1 TB secondary drive was not connected.

My dvd burner will not recognize a blank dvd-r. I am using imgburn and i get the error "Device not ready: ID CRC or ECC error". The disc is a Taiyo Yuden dvd-r. I was able to burn a Verbatim dvd+r but not the TY dvd-r. My burner is a MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ875AS and my laptop is a Lenovo Y450 running windows 7. I have also tried the same TY disc in another laptop and it was recognized perfectly
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy computer will not recognize my CD ROM drive (the D drive). For example: when I put a disc into the CD drive, the mouse pointer briefly changes to a CD icon (as it normally does) to tell me -- presumably -- that the drive is scanning the disc for its Table Of Contents. However, the CD icon only appears for a split second (when normally it would take a few seconds to read the contents). When I double-click on the D drive to run the CD, it prompts me to 'Please insert disc into Drive D', when in fact there is already a disc in the drive. Can you tell me why this might be happening?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am building a computer fort the first time and I am having trouble getting Windows 7 to recognize my hard drive. My har drive and mother board are as follows: Hard drive-Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 ST3500418AS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive, Mother Board-GIGABYTE GA-870A-UD3 AM3 AMD 870 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard when I go to install windows 7 I eventually get to a screen where it ask for an install location, unfortunately it doesnt seem to recognize my hard drive. It gives me an option of installing driver so I went to the gigabyte website and downloaded the drivers that it said I required. I believe there was an ACHI driver and a Raid driver. After I stalled both of these drivers the hard drive still was not detected. One strange thing I noticed was that when I browse for a driver my hard drive is listed as a place I can search. I then proceeded to the Bios to try and match the drivers. The hard drive is detected in the Bio. When the HD is set to IDE my BluRay play is able to read the windows install disc. But windows wont recognize my HD. If I set it to ACHI or Raid I cant seem to get the windows CD to load. Do I need an IDE driver? Out of frustration I tried installing a windows XP to see if it would be able to recognize my hard drive. It seemed to load on the hard drive fine but entered this weird loop where windows would install itself but wouldnt actually load as the operating system. In other words when I try to restart my computer and run the OS off of my hard drive it gave me an error message. Something like (windows OS could not be located) When I went to go install windows 7 again my hard drive still was not detected as a place to intall windows but when I search the hard drive (as if I was searching for a driver) I can see the Windows files that were loaded from when I tried to install XP.

In windows XP recycle bin moved any deleted files from A: to the bin, but in windows 7 it doesn't. I can drag the files from the a: to the destop or another drive, then delete them from there to be stored in RB (just in case i need to restore them) but anything deleted from the A: is just deleted.
any ideas how to make the RB recognise a mapped (virtual) drive?
My 1.5TB USB( using the EZ-dock adapter) drive is about full, and I'm looking at a 3GB drive to replace it. My system is a Netbook with USB 2.0 as the only external drive interface so that limits my options considerably if I want to keep it to something I can throw into my suitcase easily when travelling.
