View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Win 7 64 and I have created a vbscript file to launch Windows Media Centre - the script tweaks the registry settings for WMC window size and position (so it always opens in the same position and size on my second montor) before shelling to WMC (which also includes command line swtches to open in the TV Guide). The trouble is that I have created a shortcut to the vbscript file and put it into the start menu - but when I right click on it, it doesn't give me the option to pin it to the task bar. If, however, I edit target for the original WMC shortcut to point to the vbscript then I can pin it. Interestingly, when I do it this way, the Jump List on the pinned shortcut on the taskbar still retains the WMC Jump List which is great(although the Jump List doesn't appear to work on the Start Menu shortcut). So the question is - is there any detailed information that someone can point me at to help me understand how the shortcuts, pinning and jump lists work? Specific questions are:- How does Win 7 tell the difference between the short cut I created for the vbscript file and the "standard" shortcut for WMC?- Why does the pin-to option not appear on the vbscript shortcut?- Can I programmatically, or manually, add shortcuts to the "pinned" area on the task bar?- What controls the Jump List and can it be customised?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you remove a folder feom the Windows Explorer taskbar jump list, the folder never appears in the list again. That indicates there must be a file that remembers the names of the folders removed. I want to permit folders I previously removed to appear in the jump list again.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI want to create a custom shortcut and by custom I don't mean the way you usually create shortcuts at, but how you create it from scratch. Like open notepad and write down a script to make it work like an ordinary shortcut. The reason I want to do this is because I have a large collection of music and for the moment I have to open, first my music directory then choose the artist directory then the album directory and finally the playlist file. The way I want it is instead of getting into the album directory I would just have a shortcut in the artist directory that will open the playlist and start the music. And I would even want to have a custom icon on the shortcut. Now you will probably say just create a shortcut like you would normally do and then change the icon. DONE!No the thing is that when I re-install my computer or if I get a new disc with new drive letters or just move my whole music directory the shortcuts will be corrupted cause windows own created shortcuts has the complete file path like "D:DokumentEgna SkivorDeadmau5For Lack Of A Better Name0 For Lack Of A Better Name (Playlist).m3u". The way I want it is just "For Lack Of A Better Name0 For Lack Of A Better Name (Playlist).m3u"

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of the applications I use shows Chinese and Japanese text in jumplist as squares. This is happening only on one computer. I tested it on some several other (32 and 64 bit) computers and it is showing everything correctly. The computer that it is not working correctly is running 32bit version of Windows 7 Ultimate. All computers are running English version of windows 7.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI visit these forums alot, and ran a search just incase, yet was not able to find this anywhere. It's something I thought could be useful for some people You know how you can shift+right click on items in windows explorer to get added options? Well, the same command works on jump lists, except with some useful added functionality.I remember at least one forum member having mentioned that the reason they misses quicklaunch is that they could drag and drop files onto an app to open said files with said app. Well, although this doesn't completely cover that problem, as you have to use the keyboard, it sure does help.Lets say you have 10 images you want to edit in a program, but you dont feel like opening up the program and then searching for the files, because you already have the folder with the files open in explorer. Normally, if you right click on the item in a jumplist that represents the application itself, you only get a tiny context menu with 3 or four options. I was messing around and saw that if you hold shift while you right click, you will get a full host of options like one might when browsing in windows explorer. So if I want to edit those ten images in GIMP for example, I can select the images, right click and press copy, open the jumplist for GIMP, and hold down on shift while I right click on the GIMP program in the jumplist. Now the right click menu gives me the option to Paste, so I select paste, and voila, my 10 images open in GIMP.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new PC and am running Windows 7 64 bit. I'm trying to install some older games (Might and Magic 6 7 and 8 to be exact) and every time I try to run the setup it acts like it's loading then nothing pops up. If I wait 5-10 mins a setup bar will pop up but immediately stops responding. The exact error is "32 bit setup launcher has stopped responding"...so I'm assuming this has something to do with my 64 bit Windows.

View 11 Replies View RelatedI just put in a new second hard drive, but my machine won't start into windows anymore (win7 64-bit sp1). I just have a black screen after boot with a blinking cursor top left corner and the HD led on the pc is on permanently. So I decided to pop in the installation dvd and was able to get into recovery environment. Launched the command window and diskpart, but DP lists no drives or volumes.
When I take the new disk out, the system boots up normally. I can see where this is going, so is there anyway to use the recovery environment to scan the drive for errors? Chkdsk doesn't work cos no drives are present, supposedly. Can I manually mount a drive? Unfortunately I don't have an external hdd dock to stick the drive in.
