Only max of 4GB of RAM was being used as shown in Task Manager and other 4GB was free, so was wondering why doesn't extra 4GB be used and it try to extract the file much more faster ??

It took a couple of hours and then the program exited with the message 'Insufficient diskspace to fix volume bitmap'. I don't see how diskspace was insufficient as there are 79GB free out of the total 149GB, why did chkdsk say that?

What can I do?
I have a Intel i5 2500k 3.3Ghz, with 4GB memory running on windows 7 ultimate 64 bits. My problem is, since I changed the OS to this "more advanced", I cannot play Flight Simulator 2004 without this error message that closes the game. "Insufficient memory, please check your hard drive..." My system only has Flight Simulator installed, plus microsoft office and Avg antivirus (not counting with all the system updates, drivers etc). I don't understand this problem, because before this OS, I had Win XP 32 bits, with a lot more programs and addons installed and running, and I never had this problem...even with all the graphics pumped up to the max in the game. My graphic card is Asus En9800GT nvidia with 1gb ddr3 and HD with 400GB still to use (same board and HD used with XP).

View 9 Replies View Relatedi specifically selected to join here for resolving an issue regarding offline slipstreaming of SP!. Though MS doesnot officially provide slipstreaming of SP1, i know we can use RT7lite or DISM to do offline slipstreaming.My daughter recently bought an ACER laptop which came loaded with minimal LINUX; and the dealer sold a windows 7 original DVD. Unfortunately it is pre-sp1. windows 7.
i thought i will use RT7lite to slipstream SP1 and also add latest post-sp1 updates before loading the Windows. ( i have my desktop running on windows 7 64bit with sp1 updated). RT7lite stops showing that Service pack not integrated properly. So i thought i will check to see manually if i can slipstream; i understand the procedure from net and this forum; i ran the sp1.exe to obtain the cab files. i extracted all files in the bigger cab (using expand command) in a flat folder. i also expanded the nestedmpp cab; i can see the update.ses and .mum files which require modification for offline (not installed).But the problem comes with Lang0.cab to lang6.cab files. Lang6.cab file is smaller and extracts quickly and without error. When i try to extract lang0.cab file (using winrar, 7-zip or uniextract) get the error message that blah~blah~blah (each time i get different file name!) file cannot be created. I then thought the sp1 file i downloaded is corrupt so i redownloaded another time (fc gives that both files are bit perfect matching!) and with this again the error comes.so i decided to look into this exactly which file is failing. Wonder of wonder, testing archive gives no error; When i open another folder and extract the files, it extracts smoothly. To be precise,winrar shows that KB976933-LangsCab0.cab has 11862 files expanding to 232 mb; after extracting about 8900 files it starts giving errors. NOW if i open another folder and extract the rest of files, it extracts them without error.
if i try to copy the files from the new folderr to the original folder i get a windows error " cannot copy "blah blah file"; The directory or file cannot be created. So i understand it is something to do with the unusally long names (winemb-errorreporting~31bf3856ad364e35~x86~fr-fr~6.1.7601.17514.cat) with ~ characters. if i rename the file as Test.cat it copies smoothly!
1) i think probably the issue is do with the unique shortname business as renaming is working;
2) i tried to change the temporary file location but it doesnot help as windows file ultitlity comes into play to copy the file from Rar$temp folder to the lang0folder.
3) i dont know if others ever had this problem and i am surprised ; i used my laptop on xp and my daughters with minixp to extract and failed;
4) as i am using en-us lang pack i am sure i neednot copy other language files as i am slipstreaming for my personal use and i dont require french, finnish or swedish or chinese strings! how i can filter them from the cab while extracting without manually scanning these file names.
5) there is no automatic renaming option to the extractor; even if it does, then the cabfilelist (which windows shall be using to use the cat file) will be all wrong.
6) i believe online updating will work as only en-us files will be extracted and updated;
7) is there a limit on number of files (based on unique short file names?) i thought the number is well beyond 30000 and not the 8892 files!
8) ASIDE: i also find two archives:: integrationcomponents.iso and precompact.iso in the extracted folder; what are they for and what should i do with them?
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
I need a little help figuring this out. I made a backup image a while back on my network. Now that I want to re-image, I reboot as requested, wait for it to load, and Windows says it can't find my backup, "if it is on a network, close this window , type the network location."Putting in the network location does nothing, I'm just returned to the screen where it would list the backup image if it had found it, but there's nothing there.Thinking perhaps my NAS was the problem I copied the image onto a portable hard drive, but after rebooting into the restore program, Windows 7 doesn't find the USB drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded my laptop with an SSD, and I have 2 HD bays so I put the 500GB drive in the second one for storage. I went to move all My Documents, My Music, etc folders to my storage drive by right clicking, properties, location tab, changing the letter to D:, telling it to create the folder and move the contents. The only problem is it littered my user folder with folders Music, Pictures, Videos, etc in addition to the normal "My (insert media type here)" folders. The folders it made when I did that I don't even have permissions to see who has permission for those folders. They're clogging up my user folder (visually at least), and I can't open, delete, mark as hidden, or anything. I can't even restore the default locations for My Music, etc cause it says I don't have permission.
How do I get rid of all the extra stuff it made for no reason?
Create a shared folder with full access on your network.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI get pretty tired of Vista and all this permissions stuff. I was testing out a file in different OS versions. I was working with it in Windows 7 Pro. For easy of use I moved the file over to the Windows 7's C Drive.Booted into Vista. I needed to make a quick change to the file. I go to Save the changes and I get another one of Vista's messages (that I probably never read) about you don't have permissions to save. I was like sure I do I'm Admin on my Computer (who cares what OS I'm in). The computer didn't answer me, which is probably good, because it would be laughing now. So I'm in Vista and I right click on the Windows 7 drive and I give myself permissions to acess the Drive. I'm not sure if that moved to all the sub folders or not.I get into Windows 7 and now Windows 7 Doesn't have access to the its own C Drive. I try to give it permissions like 3 or 4 times and it shows it should have permission but nothing happens. (I get an error message when trying to created a file in the C drive in Windows 7)I better go back into Vista and take off any permissions for that drive. Guess what? I do that. In vista I take any owner or permission off for the Windows 7 Drive. Now I'm back into Windows 7 and I can't even access the C Drive? I can't even access the permissions for the drive?How do I go about restoring Windows 7 permissions?
