I got this windows IE9 update 36.7 mb, but no matter what I do the update fails after restore point is created. It seems I got the same problem as here: Update fails with error code 9C48. - Microsoft Answers but it keeps failing. I tried disabling my Avast AV but no luck.
View 9 RepliesI have a users laptop that is failing to install SP1 with the above error code (80070002). WU is installing other updates so it appears to be a problem with SP1 rather than WU. Installing while logged in gives me the error code but if you hit shutdown then it just sits on the Configuring screen and the user has had to hard power off the laptop after a few hours.

Yesterday my laptop had an update for me, so I attempted to install it. However, when it was done I was told that the installation failed. I restarted the computer and attempted to install it again, but it still failed. I looked into more detail on what I was installing, which was Microsoft .NET Framework 4 KB2468871, and went to the site it was based on and attempted to install it from there. When the setup came up however, I received this message:
"KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."
I'm not entirely sure what this means, and since this is apparently an important update for my laptop, I ask if there is a way I can solve the problem (also it's getting irritating to have my laptop keep on reminding me to update something that fails to update). My laptop has Norton 360.

I have been using it successfully for the past 16 months now, via USB connection, installed on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows XP PC (I just unplug it and plug it in to whichever computer I need to print from).For some reason, it has decided not to recognize the drivers on my laptop.I have tried to uninstall and reinstall (no go).I also deleted every instance of MX870 from the registry that it would allow me to (some it wouldn't for some reason no access yes I am Administrator).Reinstall again still no go.The Windows 7 Updates were failing to update the Fax component which I thought was the problem, then all of a sudden it was successful still no printer. Now, it is unsuccessful again.I don't use the Fax component.The reinstall from the CD is successful, but when I plug in the printer, it fails."Device driver software was not successfully installed. I have no problem printing from the XP machine when it's plugged in there all is good there.I have been to the Canon website and downloaded the latest drivers, which installed perfectly, but again when I plug in the printer, it fails to install the fax driver and the printer won't work..I have also tried all of the various USB ports and ruled that out.I've also run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter also without success.Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I can't even print to PDF. My CutePDF program is also not working. I tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as suggested in Help and Support however the update installation on that failed too. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
I have a WDC WD5000BEVT-75A0RT0 Laptop hardisk ,and just in recent times it gave me an error from Windows 7 and when I boot my laptop saying that S.M.A.R.T found an error, and backup your data immediately the HDD is going to fail. Now I am quite a power user, and understand computer's quite well, but my laptop is just a year old (out of my warranty period), now how can this happen? I don't rough use my laptop at all, I didn't notice any hardware failure problems related to the HDD no clicking noises,I think its more to do with the software ? I assume either my ISP/router is the issue or something else strange is going on. I tried changing my DNS server to the google ones as well as adding a server to my hosts file but it still returns the same error. Just curious what exactly the message means if it really is DNS related as hard-coding the IP into the internet time requester returns the same error.
I have a toshiba hard drive in my laptop that Windows 7 says "Windows detected a hard disk problem." I've backed up my personal files, and now I'm trying to figure out if it can be repaired or if I'm going to have to buy a new hard drive. I tried to run the Toshiba hard drive diagnostic, but the tool isn't allowing me to select my drive and can't run without being able to do that, even though it is my only hard drive. I've checked for viruses and malware, and it says there are none. I've defraged as well

however, every time I tell it to update then shut down it fails. I tried to troubleshoot it using the MS help box which was very little actual help, and then tried to initiate the update manually, however, when it comes to installing some windows 7 security and system updates and some IE updates, installation fails, resulting in error code 800736B3, whatever that means. All I've been able to turn up from googling is a command that un-registers windows, which then for some reason allows the updates to occur, following which I can use my original activation code (given to me by digital river with the student upgrade deal) to re-activate windows, although I am reluctant to try this!
seeing as it had infected my services.exe, part of the fix was to get a new copy of it, or something around those lines; this will come in to play later, I think. Anyway, its been a LONG time, my last update whenever I try running windows update, it runs for a bit and tries to receive the updates, but then stops and displays a message saying it failed to update, and gives me the error code of 80246008. I've looked this up, and I see that it possibly has something to do with the background intelligent transfer service.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUntil a few weeks ago I was running the following computer and I use it just for gaming, I changed the Motherboard to an Asus P8Z68 and used a different i5 2500k-everything else remained the same. I erased the SSD and did a clean install of Win 7. Loaded the mother board drivers, video drivers and intel rapid storage. The system boots up and appears to be working great. If I try and use windows update I get the error code 0xc80003fa. I have googled the error code and done everything that has been suggested to fix the issue and still nothing. I have done another clean install and get exactly the same result.

My windows update says it has 55 important updates but when I attempt to update it says that the updates were not installed and gives the error code 80246008. The windows help and support tells me I need to change or restart the background intelligent transfer service (BITS) but it isn't in the list of services that it directs me to. The microsoft fixit and automated troubleshooter fixes have both failed to help and I'm a bit worried this is a symptom of a real underlying problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently my son had W7 Virus which appears to have been removed. He is running Comodo A/V and Malwarebytes, both of which find no errors. Had problems starting a few services butthis forum, was able to get them going. Problem now is that when Update Request is run a 7023 error appears in the logs about every 30 seconds. Detail shows: Windows Modules Installer Service Terminated with reason "access is denied". When I try to start the Service it gives Code-5 and same Access Denied. Other associated symptoms are, "View installed updates" incorrectly shows no updates and "Windows Features" shows a blank list and never completes.
