View 2 RepliesI'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
seeing as it had infected my services.exe, part of the fix was to get a new copy of it, or something around those lines; this will come in to play later, I think. Anyway, its been a LONG time, my last update whenever I try running windows update, it runs for a bit and tries to receive the updates, but then stops and displays a message saying it failed to update, and gives me the error code of 80246008. I've looked this up, and I see that it possibly has something to do with the background intelligent transfer service.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUntil a few weeks ago I was running the following computer and I use it just for gaming, I changed the Motherboard to an Asus P8Z68 and used a different i5 2500k-everything else remained the same. I erased the SSD and did a clean install of Win 7. Loaded the mother board drivers, video drivers and intel rapid storage. The system boots up and appears to be working great. If I try and use windows update I get the error code 0xc80003fa. I have googled the error code and done everything that has been suggested to fix the issue and still nothing. I have done another clean install and get exactly the same result.

My windows update says it has 55 important updates but when I attempt to update it says that the updates were not installed and gives the error code 80246008. The windows help and support tells me I need to change or restart the background intelligent transfer service (BITS) but it isn't in the list of services that it directs me to. The microsoft fixit and automated troubleshooter fixes have both failed to help and I'm a bit worried this is a symptom of a real underlying problem.

View 4 Replies View RelatedRecently my son had W7 Virus which appears to have been removed. He is running Comodo A/V and Malwarebytes, both of which find no errors. Had problems starting a few services butthis forum, was able to get them going. Problem now is that when Update Request is run a 7023 error appears in the logs about every 30 seconds. Detail shows: Windows Modules Installer Service Terminated with reason "access is denied". When I try to start the Service it gives Code-5 and same Access Denied. Other associated symptoms are, "View installed updates" incorrectly shows no updates and "Windows Features" shows a blank list and never completes. Note that updates HAVE been installed in the last 5 days and are listed correctly.Several Logs are posted below:Farbar Service Scanner Version: 31-01-2012 01Ran by matt (administrator) on 31-01-2012 at 21:14:45Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (X86)Boot Mode:[CODE]

View 1 Replies View RelatedThis has been going on for a couple of weeks. Every time I shut down my laptop, it TRIES to Update. I finally realized that something is wrong. I went into the Update folder in Control Panel and looked at the "update history" to find that every time I shut down, the update attempts have "failed".The error code is 66A. I tried the "Windows Fix-It" and it didn't work. I don't know what to try next. The three update items are for NET.Framework 4.

View 13 Replies View RelatedI am using Windows 7 Home Premium on a 64 bit operating system. I haven't used this computer in over a year, but my brother has been using it since, but hasn't kept it updated at all or with any anti-virus. I was able to install everything on Windows Update except Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2621440). I've tried everything from simply restarting, rebooting in safe mode and safe mode with networking (I could not open windows update either of those ways), and doing a safe mode with networking full scan with Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Super Anti Spyware, and Microsoft Security Essentials. I did find 2 trojans and removed them and rebooted, but was unable to install this security pack still. When I tried installing the individual version of the security pack online, it told me the update did not apply to this system. I also tried running the windows update repair tool. I made a separate administrator account and downgraded my own account to a standard user, but I'm unable to demote my brother's administrator account. His is not password protected, but there is no option to change the account type, even when I'm logged on as him or under the other administrator account I just made.
