I am having this problem through Windows Update, also I downloaded the stand alone DVD and it still won't work, I've tried the SURT and it says it can't run on this computer. It's a new laptop, Sony Vaio VPCEE33EL with only 2 weeks of use and nothing out of the ordinary installed.

I installed a lot of updates yesterday, except DotNet 3.5 SP1 and Windows 7 SP1, because WU gives me the following errors when I try to install such updates:
800B0100
80073712
I already tried the Update Readiness Tool and nothing.

I'm unable to do any windows updates due to error code 800B0100. I think a recent virus I had may have tampered with update files. I tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as suggested in Help and Support however the update installation on that failed too. Due to other problems I've been having recently I'm considering re-installing my OS at this point.

I'm out of ideas. I've been running Win 7 on this machine for more than a year without issues in updating etc. Now it will not search or update/install critical items. I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.

A while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.

Just purchased a new MOBO and some other new hardware a couple of weeks ago. I am using the same Windows 7 Pro copy I had on my previous mobo and HD. After I installed Windows 7 Pro onto my SDD (with a HD as my secondary storage), I was getting BSOD and SP1 would not install (but other updates would prefectly fine). I re-installed (cleanly) Pro a couple of days ago. Now, barely any of the updates work. There are various failure codes, such as the ones in the title--and no distinct problem.
I was able to download some updates by only selecting 1-3 at a time. However, with 118 updates...I eventually lost my patience (plus, sometimes a few would still fail even at only 1-3 at a time).
The failure process at first was at the download stage - the progress would freeze randomly at 7% or whichever. After several more attempts it got through to the installation phase. Now installations randomly stop at a random file. Upon restart, Windows fails to configure updates and nothing is accomplished.
Now a weird thing is, that with some of my larger files (2+mb), I will sometimes see like 5.1mb - 10mb for the listed file size. Also, on my main Windows Update screen (the one which lists how many important and optional updates you can download), it says "79 important updates selected, 236.2 MB - 1,059.8 MB."
I have tried:
-FixIt
-Deleting all temp files
-Deleting DataStore
Random Specs:
Windows 7 Pro
ASUS P8Z77-V Pro
Samsung 830 64GB SSD

seeing as it had infected my services.exe, part of the fix was to get a new copy of it, or something around those lines; this will come in to play later, I think. Anyway, its been a LONG time, my last update whenever I try running windows update, it runs for a bit and tries to receive the updates, but then stops and displays a message saying it failed to update, and gives me the error code of 80246008. I've looked this up, and I see that it possibly has something to do with the background intelligent transfer service.

I originally was failing 14 updates with 800b0100 and one other error code (forgot which). I went with manually installing them, and it took it down to 5 updates fail to install with only error code 800b0100.

I had some unstable RAM settings when first setting up the computer, where I think an update or so was occuring and the system crashing. Pretty sure only during the download process though.Anyways, I've done everything on this that I can find. SFC Scannow, System Update Readiness Tool, Reset content of catroot2, Remove any incorrect registry (none of the stuff they say to delete was even in there), The only step that did not go 100% smoothly was "Register the Windows Update Files":
REGSVR32 WUPS2.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUPS.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUAUENG.DLL /S REGSVR32 WUAPI.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUCLTUX.DLL /S
REGSVR32 WUWEBV.DLL /S
REGSVR32 JSCRIPT.DLL /S
REGSVR32 MSXML3.DLL /S
On the bolded ones, I get: Quote: This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is laready installed, create an assocation in the Default Programs control panel. and the Rename Pending.xml (there is no pending.xml file, cmd says cant find it, etc).Turned off firewall and AV (WSE), renamed software distribution folder, Clear BITS queue, ran update 958056 (the tool that takes forever), ran chkdsk, ran disk cleaner. Also, every once in a while, when trying to "Try Again" on the updates, it'll say "Windows update success! Updates unnecessary' or something like that. Then I hit check for updates, and those updates become necessary once again, and, all those language packs and remote desktop optional updates that I hid, become unhidden again.

Until a few weeks ago I was running the following computer and I use it just for gaming, I changed the Motherboard to an Asus P8Z68 and used a different i5 2500k-everything else remained the same. I erased the SSD and did a clean install of Win 7. Loaded the mother board drivers, video drivers and intel rapid storage. The system boots up and appears to be working great. If I try and use windows update I get the error code 0xc80003fa. I have googled the error code and done everything that has been suggested to fix the issue and still nothing. I have done another clean install and get exactly the same result.

My windows update says it has 55 important updates but when I attempt to update it says that the updates were not installed and gives the error code 80246008. The windows help and support tells me I need to change or restart the background intelligent transfer service (BITS) but it isn't in the list of services that it directs me to. The microsoft fixit and automated troubleshooter fixes have both failed to help and I'm a bit worried this is a symptom of a real underlying problem.

Recently my son had W7 Virus which appears to have been removed. He is running Comodo A/V and Malwarebytes, both of which find no errors. Had problems starting a few services butthis forum, was able to get them going. Problem now is that when Update Request is run a 7023 error appears in the logs about every 30 seconds. Detail shows: Windows Modules Installer Service Terminated with reason "access is denied". When I try to start the Service it gives Code-5 and same Access Denied. Other associated symptoms are, "View installed updates" incorrectly shows no updates and "Windows Features" shows a blank list and never completes. Note that updates HAVE been installed in the last 5 days and are listed correctly.Several Logs are posted below:Farbar Service Scanner Version: 31-01-2012 01Ran by matt (administrator) on 31-01-2012 at 21:14:45Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate Service Pack 1 (X86)Boot Mode:[CODE]

I have a 6 day old TOshiba Notebook with Windows 7 64-Bit. I can't do windows update because of an error code 8024402F.
I tried the troubleshooter - doesn't work. I tried disabling antivirus and firewall - still doesn't work. I tried the Microsoft Fix It thing - again still doesn't work. Even a reinstall of the system didn't work.
