Mar 20, 2012I have 6 updates that will not install (KB2633873) (KB2641653) (KB2645640) (KB2654428) (KB2640148) (KB2660075). I have tried each of them separately and all have failed with the same error, I have downloaded and ran the System Update Readiness Tool with no success. Here is my CheckSUR.log.

Jun 28, 2012I am trying to install the "Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems KB2718704)," however, whenever I try to install it, I get the 800B0100 Error Code. Sep 30, 2011I'm working on a Brand New Dell Inspiron 1525 with W7 OS. I was in the middle of catching it up on all the updates and they went in fine except it when it got to Service Pack 1, It will not install SP1. I receive the error code: 800B0100 I also went thru the steps of "Get help with this error" and it went thru "Windows Update troubleshooter" said the problem was "fixed", however still failed the next 4 tries, any suggestions? THX!!!

May 16, 2011I'm unable to do any windows updates due to error code 800B0100. I think a recent virus I had may have tampered with update files. I tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as suggested in Help and Support however the update installation on that failed too. Due to other problems I've been having recently I'm considering re-installing my OS at this point.

Everything was working fine until yesterday when Sony VAIO update popped up from the task tray and prompted me to update a bunch of things, which I did. The entire process was automated as it was one of those system updates. After the update, I restarted computer, and then all the function keys stopped working. E.g.pressing FN + F1-12 won't do anything. Before the update I was able to use FN + F3/4 to adjust volume, but now nothing happens. Does anyone know what's going on? None of the updates failed to install and I restarted computer just like it said, and I'm assuming all updates that need to be installed will pop up in either Windows Update or VAIO Update? My Win update says my computer is up to date as well.

Mar 19, 2012Win 7 professional 64 SP1 all patches applied till today. Some days ago I got a Definitions Update, like many others before. But this time it failed to apply with an numeric code. Since I don't have MS Security Essentials (never installed it for what I can recall) and just have free Avira, Spyware Blaster and Malware Bytes, it should not be disabled or something. After reading a number of posts on the MS forums I tried manually starting the defender service, which failed with error 126 (could not find its mpsvc.dll DLL).
I noticed the required DLL, along with a couple others, was in Program Files, while the registry entry for it was set to %ProgramFiles (86)%\Windows Defender\mpsvc.dll. Not willing to fiddle with the registry, I just applied a .reg fix others on the MS support forums found useful to fix this issue with. But it did not help. The definitions update indeed worked but now the defender service won't start at all and shows as disabled (trying to start it does nothing, no error, no Windows logs in events viewer.

Nov 23, 2011I am occuring a strange error when I use Windows Update on a fresh installation of Windows 7 Pro. What happens is that when I install the first batch major updates. which is around 100 security and straight updates before Service Pack 1. I restart Windows to install them and during Stage 3 my computer restarts and then goes back and finishes the installation. Then when I get back into Windows I have a Error in Event Viewer with the ID of 7023 stating that Windows Modules Install had exited with error code %%16405. Windows Updater says that everything installed correctly and has no failed updates and doesn't show a error. Searching the internet has only given me a few hits and the one suggested installing SP1 before updating which I did and did not stop this problem.

Dec 1, 2011Recently whenever I've used an .exe installer I'll get an error as soon as I click start after choosing the directory, in the picture example I include below, it's of SA-MP, but it happens with any installer I try and use. Installers have worked previously, it's only recently it's stopped working.The error is;Error opening files for writing?
What I've tried;
-Full system scan with Comodo AV.
-Revealed hidden files and folders.
-Run the installer in both compatability (Even though it does work on Windows 7, and as an Administrator).
-Also done the scan on CMD (can't remember exact command).

Feb 14, 2011I've had my Lenovo U350 for a about a year and a half. Towards the very beginning I've had this issue on and off, but never really noticed it. Today I tried to install steam.exe, but I keep getting an error 1719.
I went to services.msc and realized that I don't actually have a 'Windows Installer'. I know Windows Redistribute 4.5 does not work for Windows 7, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to solve this problem?
It is strange because I can install some things but not others. For example, I can install Digsby.

Edit: I noticed some sites said that the lack of Windows Installer meant that my Windows 7 is not legal/counterfeit. However, I purchased the laptop from Lenovo with a complimentary copy of Windows 7, and I have already verified authenticity, so that isn't the problem.

I do not have ANY operating system installed on my computer... can I still install this and be okay? Or do I have to have a Windows version already installed on my computer?If this helps, I have a hard drive (that may actually be damaged, I need to check that) that already has Windows 7 Ultimate installed on it (educational version, 32 bit... I need 64 bit). I'm wary of using that hard drive and disk (I just moved the hard drive to a desktop with all-new components) because the disk had problems when I was installing... I had to take it to my University's IT for them to install it (the code wasn't working).
