Win 7 professional 64 SP1 all patches applied till today. Some days ago I got a Definitions Update, like many others before. But this time it failed to apply with an numeric code. Since I don't have MS Security Essentials (never installed it for what I can recall) and just have free Avira, Spyware Blaster and Malware Bytes, it should not be disabled or something. After reading a number of posts on the MS forums I tried manually starting the defender service, which failed with error 126 (could not find its mpsvc.dll DLL).
I noticed the required DLL, along with a couple others, was in Program Files, while the registry entry for it was set to %ProgramFiles (86)%\Windows Defender\mpsvc.dll. Not willing to fiddle with the registry, I just applied a .reg fix others on the MS support forums found useful to fix this issue with. But it did not help. The definitions update indeed worked but now the defender service won't start at all and shows as disabled (trying to start it does nothing, no error, no Windows logs in events viewer.
The problem likely started when I cloned my drive to a new Seagate drive using a Seatools *Seagate** utility, which I believe is actually made by Acronis. The final fix was installing new drivers for the Hard drive from Intel "Intel Rapid Storage Technology"

I have a Sony VAIO with Win 7 64-bit, purchased around 2 months ago. Everything was working fine until yesterday when Sony VAIO update popped up from the task tray and prompted me to update a bunch of things, which I did. The entire process was automated as it was one of those system updates. After the update, I restarted computer, and then all the function keys stopped working. E.g.pressing FN + F1-12 won't do anything. Before the update I was able to use FN + F3/4 to adjust volume, but now nothing happens. Does anyone know what's going on? None of the updates failed to install and I restarted computer just like it said, and I'm assuming all updates that need to be installed will pop up in either Windows Update or VAIO Update? My Win update says my computer is up to date as well.
Recently my computer has been force closing applications like Photoshop and Windows Explorer. It usually happens when I right click in Explorer or try to open anything in Photoshop. When it happens, a dialogue box comes up that says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" or "Adobe Photoshop has stopped working" Under the details it displays this information:

I was able to load XP back on alright, but when I went to use the upgrade discs to 7 is when I ran into problems. As i read on forums my problem is quite common. Cod 2 and Cod 4 when i start multiplayer it crashes and gives me cod 2 stopped working error. My sound card is "High Definition Sound Device" i can't find stereo mix on my pc and i tried plugging a mic in pc and still the games crash. Single player works fine.
I can use a usb pendrive, or a memory card reader in my usb.But both of my protable usb hard drives are not showing when plugged in.I have tried a usb 'Y' cable.but no good.Both drives work on my netbook..But not on my windows 7 pc.

Having a problem the past 2 days, when going into one particular file on my c drive I am getting windows explorer has stopped working and am prompted to restart or the infamous check for an online solution.I am able to open every other folder on this drive and have no issues, have tried a sfc /scannow but found no errors.
I recently renewed my internet security subscription. Immediately after doing so, the Calendar and Weather gadgets stopped working. The Calendar shows up as a blank orange/white square and opening up the Weather gadget will just reveal the "i" information symbol and a X close button, neither of which actually work.
Clock gadget also stopped working but then after an hour later it started working again and has been working since. I have tried deleting/uninstalling the gadgets but that hasn't worked. I have tried several tricks with the Windows command prompt which doesn't work either.
I'm considering using an automatic system restore (I don't have any manual saved points to restore) on just the gadgets themselves. Is that the way to go, or is there something else I could try? I've decided to name it: McAfee. I didn't at first, because it's been my experience whenever I mention a problem and mention an antiviral program.
I mention McAfee because it's an odd thing: I've searched forums and have found that others have had the almost the same problem; except with them it happens when you UNINSTALL McAfee, not renew it. I've also found another possible solution that involves deleting a registry key, but I'm way too nervous to try that.

It initially started when I downloaded a torrent that was a folder containing a video. Once the download had completed I attempted to open the folder but I got the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution to the problem", then a different windows pops up with "Windows explorer is restarting". After a few seconds the start bar vanishes then comes back almost immediately. I thought that possible the folder I had downloaded was corrupt so tried deleting it, but when I right clicked on the folder I got the same. I used a program called Glary utilities to permanently delete the folder and that did the trick.A few days passed and I used utorrent to download another, different video, which was also contained in a folder, and I am having the same message come up on this one - "Windows Explorer has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution to the problem" This is the only folder, as far as I'm aware, that this happens with. One time when I tried to open it the following came up instead of the usual "windows explorer has stopped" - The instruction at 0x0a04b890 referenced memory at 0x033f3d0e. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate this program. run scndisk, chkdisk, spybot S&D, malwarebytes, Avast and Microsoft security essentials and some registry cleaners/fixers but nothing has helped. I also downloaded a program called "WER_Explorer" which apparently creates a dump file whenever the error occurs, but I can't open make any sense of it all. I downlaoded the above program from [URL]. I can access the folder when I run in safe mode, and the folder is shared on a home network and I can access it from my laptop.
Ok first of all im sirgail or giga from philippines and im new to the forum. I came here to seek help about my problem its been 3 days already been looking for a solution with my problem but no luck on finding a topic with same problem with me[CODE]whenever i click close the program or check online for a solution and close the program still it will popup again ( the error). Its annoying but somehow i manage to skip it by pressing ctrl+alt+delete task manager and click processes and end process the explorer.exe in order for me to use the internet and browse but the only problem is i cant go to "My computer" drives cause the error will popup again and i cant right click on the desktop and the task bar is not there cant even see the windows or press the windows startup
Everytime I wanted to open my folder and files, this thing appear on my screen. Then, it refreshed everything and the folder that I opened is gone. So, i have to open that folder again and still this windows appear again. It's hard for me to open a folder because of this. I have tried the ways in the internet and it's not working at all.
I installed Photoshop 7.0 about 6 months ago with Windows 7, 64-bit operating system. It successfully installed and I have been using it with no issues. Over this weekend, it just stopped working and I get the following error:

I have uninstalled Photoshop and tried to reinstall it but still have the same issue.

This started a week ago. I have Windows 7. Whenever I try to play a video or music or try to download with realplayer, I get the message "Realplayer stopped working" within a few seconds of starting the play or download, then it shuts down. I uninstalled then re-installed, downloaded the updates and still have the same problem.
My USB ports on my ASUS c90s laptop suddenly stopped working one by one. After reading around the internet it seems this is a windows 7 problem. When I go to device management I have other devices not working. Two Base system devices under a PCI bus category and an "Unknown Device". The unknown device is under the Intel(R) 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Controller - 27B8 section. It has no driver, even though I downloaded the driver manually it still doesn't work. I've tried removing my battery and then replacing it. I disabled all the USB ports then restarted. I've even uninstalled them aswell as the unknown device.I went to theregistry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}and found one solution to delete the upper and lower values. I had no lower values just a "lowerlogoversion" but I did delete the upper value. I then restarted and attempted to plug my mouse into my USB again and it was recognized for about a second and the red light under my mouse lit up but then went away.
Recently, I started getting alerted multiple times a day about the windows no working any more, and followed by a quick reset (the equivalent of "Windows.exe -> End Process -> New task -> Windows.exe" ). It usually happens when I do several things simultaneously and quickly, as simple as opening a folder and switching tabs in the browser. Most likely has nothing to with it, but just to be sure, a full scan was made by MalwareBytes and returned clean.
I recently built myself a computer over the christmas break. Sound has been working fine until I changed my network adapter card, which plugged into the pci express whereas the other one was just pci slot. I have done a system restore, restarted my audio, checked speakers on other devices to make sure they are not the problem. Even when I plug headphones in to the front jack I get no sound. Sound is coming from Asus MOBO.
