My USB ports on my ASUS c90s laptop suddenly stopped working one by one. After reading around the internet it seems this is a windows 7 problem. When I go to device management I have other devices not working. Two Base system devices under a PCI bus category and an "Unknown Device". The unknown device is under the Intel(R) 82801GB/GR (ICH7 Family) LPC Interface Controller - 27B8 section. It has no driver, even though I downloaded the driver manually it still doesn't work. I've tried removing my battery and then replacing it. I disabled all the USB ports then restarted. I've even uninstalled them aswell as the unknown device.I went to theregistry:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{36FC9E60-C465-11CF-8056-444553540000}and found one solution to delete the upper and lower values. I had no lower values just a "lowerlogoversion" but I did delete the upper value. I then restarted and attempted to plug my mouse into my USB again and it was recognized for about a second and the red light under my mouse lit up but then went away.
last night after applying a windows update none of my usb ports work. I have four onboard total. After installing the hotfix last night, two of them worked. After a reboot this morning im back to square one. Now last night before i got it briefly working, whatever i plugged in would charge but not be recognized by windows. Now i get nothing. no charge, no recognition.
Both USB ports at my laptop (Toshiba Satellite C650, Windows 7 home premium, SP1, x64) stopped working after plugging in and unplugging several Garmin Forerunner 305 watches in a row. Everything looks all right in the device manage (no exclamations marks). I have reinstalled everything that has something to do with USB in the device manager, several times. Updated BIOS and used Windows update to get all the latest drivers and fixes.I have taken out the battery and let the computer "rest" for several hours without any power supply.I have tried to do some changes in registry key according to these instructions: USB ports suddenly stopped working in Windows 7 RC1 - Microsoft Answers (I managed to delete Lowerfilters). And of course I have tried with different USB-sticks, mouses, external hard drive etc. There is no power in the ports. When I plug in my Garmin Watch it does not charge.I installed and tried two registry cleaners (TweakNow RegCleaner 2011 and Glary utilities). After using them I got some hope back when I got a bit of reaction from one of the ports. A few times after plugging in something it started to install the driver but stopped immediately - telling me that the driver cannot be installed because the device is not plugged in (while it is).
I consider to do system restore to factory settings but before that I have to copy and save everything which is a bit complicated since non of the ports is working. If the restore to factory settings does not work, then I believe there is a problem with the hardware and I have to get the motherboard replaced.
I am in a spot of bother since I have to give an important presentation and all of a sudden my USB ports (3) in HP pavillion dv6(running windows 7 64 bit) stopped working. I plugged my friend's ipod touch to charge from the computer and it did not work and after that none of the ports will work. I tried reinstalling the drivers, restarted the computer multiple times and even ran a virus scan but its of no use.Out of the 3 ports only one says "windows detected a problem with the device", the other 2 wont even say anything. I even checked at the registry keys to see if the USB ports are enabled and they were fine. My warranty expired this December so now I have to pay HP for any trouble shooting
My computer crashed after doing a backup and the keyboard stopped working so I decided to remove all USBs and reinsert them then all my other USBs stopped working how do I fix this ?
I have a Compaq Presario CQ62-215DX, running Norton Internet Security and firewall through Windows 7. I sucessfully installed new Wireless LAN and Lightscribe system software several days ago, along with the Live Essentials, Realtek and Windows 7 Updates. Everything was operating correctly yesterday, but when I booted up my computer today my wireless mouse refused to work. After trying a fix involving a USB stick, I realized that none of my USB ports work. The ports light up when I restart, until Windows 7 finishes logging in, and once it begins the drivers refuse to work. Is it because of the recent updates? Because I cleaned up my back-up copies?
I have an older Dell Inspiron 5100 that's been rock solid since day one. I recently transferred all my music from my PC to my Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex so I could organize my files while I was out of town on business. When I got to my hotel and plugged the Seagate into the USB port the laptop would not recognize it. There's two USB ports, one of the USB ports does nothing at all when I plug the drive in (not even a 'Ding-Dong' sound). The other port at least responds but still not recognized. By "responds" I mean Windows responds with a "Dunn..." sound; not the happy two tone sound of a device actually being recognized and available, just a "Dunn..."I've used this drive before on this laptop on several occasions so I know it's compatible. I also came home and plugged to drive back into the PC to see if the drive itself responds. It does, and all files are there and happy. Also, when plugged into the non-responsive USB slot the light on the drive blinks a couple times, the platters spool up for 15 or so seconds then goes out. When plugged into the other USB slot (the one that goes "Dunn...") the light comes on and stays on and the platters spin untill I unplug the device. But it's still not recognized.
I was playing my laptop one day right? And my ports stopped working out of nowhere. Like no joke i was playing my laptop nice and calmly and then Bam they stopped like they busted... I have one way I read about fixing it: Hit F8 or del when comp is powering up and hit "Load Optimized Defaults".
Basically, my HP DV6-3065EA running Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) laptop died. I went into a computer shop and asked how much a simple diagnostic test would be to find out how much a repair would be. He quoted me 90. Phew, jog on! That wasn't going to happen!Anyway, I decided to replace the power jack. No hard job, just a simple unplug and plug back in job. (looks abit like this Hp power jack image by chikyeung on Photobucket). I replaced it; everything is running fine. I tried to put a USB pen drive into a usb socket. Didn't work. Tried another, didn't work. I have tried several devices and they all work on other computers but don't seem to be working on mine. I have been trawling the internet for answers, and as of yet, nothing -.-! I wouldn't call myself a novice, trust me, I've tried everything, uninstalling and reinstalling all of the USB drivers, checking bits of the registry.etc. Nothing. So today, i thought, right, WIPE THE COMPUTER! I backed up everything, went back to scratch.
I have three USB ports on my Gateway laptop and none of them are working. I've tried un-installing them through the Device Manager, but the action gets hung up and I have to stop it (I've let it run for 10+ minutes) through the task manager. When I re-open the Device Manager the USB all the controllers are still there.
I bought an expansion drive because I wanted to back up my photos and other files. After I did that I was going to reinstall a clean version of Windows 7 as my laptop hasn't been working well lately.
I have windows 7 and linux mint on my desktop, I built my computer myself, and it works great. My girlfriend asked me to help her put songs onto her iPhone 3G this weekend so I plugged it into my computer while in windows and a little bubble popped up saying a usb port was using too much power, or something along those lines. I didn't think anything of it because nothing else happened. The iPhone had been acting really strange lately so in the end no music got put onto it. I restarted my computer and none of my USB ports work anymore. My mouse and keyboard are USB and now I can't log onto windows because I can't type in my password.
Recently my computer has been force closing applications like Photoshop and Windows Explorer. It usually happens when I right click in Explorer or try to open anything in Photoshop. When it happens, a dialogue box comes up that says "Windows Explorer has stopped working" or "Adobe Photoshop has stopped working" Under the details it displays this information:
Problem signature: Problem Event Name:APPCRASH Application Name:Explorer.EXE Application Version:6.1.7600.16768 Application Timestamp:4d688122
I'm convinced that that is the problem. I have tried EVERYTHING else to get the USB ports to work, but still no luck. They will not recognize any devices that I plug into the computer. Here are the specs (copied from hp.com):
Hardware Product Nameze2108wm US Product NumberEA390UA#ABA Microprocessor1.6GHz AMD Mobile Sempron™ Processor 2800+ with PowerNow!™ Technology Microprocessor Cache256KB L2 Cache

I found a Windows.old file under the C drive, so that's what I figure happened.
Is there any way to make the USB drives work without having to revert to Windows XP? Also, are the ports not working simply because the drivers are not compatible with Win 7, or is there another problem (probably something simple and then I'll feel like an idiot =/ )?
i have dell xps15z i suffered from problem usb device was not recognized and couldn't solve it by any solutions i found on the internet then decided to format and reinstall the windows i installed all the updates and drivers for my usb ports and all the computer but now usb device was not recognized disappeared but nothing now appear, whenever i enter any usb no driver or anything installed for it no windows driver appear or anything like the driver isn't sensing the usb or the driver isn't installed or sth but the strane thing that when i put usb it lights two times then the light disappear i tried that in 2 usb ports not one and same with any usb?
My system is Dell OptiPlex 740, 2.50 GB RAM, Win 7 Ultimate 64bit.All of a sudden - the USB ports (all 7 of them) stopped to function roperly. Each device I plugged into the port - got recognized as 'uknown device' and doesn't function at all.One of the biggest problems that this cause me - I can't plug in the keyboard and the mice - I don't have PS/2 ports in this computer.Thing is, even out of Windows, the USB doesn't work. I'm suspecting this because the PC giving me 'Keyboard fault' everytime I restart. So I can't got to BIOS either.Right now I'm using special combination of USB hub attached to one of the ports, and the peripherals connected to the hub
I have recently installed windows 7 on to my pc. Everything seemed okay to start with, but then the printer wouldn't work. The printer is working, but not with the computer. The message that usb ports arent working keeps coming up.
I have tried to uninstall the usb drivers, to no avail. Keeps saying usb device not detected.
my usb ports (mouse and keyboard) stopped working after it gets to windows welcome screen. It worked prior to that (I could get in to the bios and use the keyboard there) and I can even get to the windows repair mode and have my usb mouse and keyboard working. But booting it normally (or even safe mode) will disable keyboard and mouse (and all usb ports i believe) at the login screen. I don't have a PS/2 port so I don't have any alternative way to type in my pwd at the login screen. I would like to try the solution posted above, since I can get to the repair mode, open command prompt and run regedit, but just unsure since I didn't see any response from the user on that post whether it worked or not.
Left my computer running Win 7 home premium on overnight, had just installed a fresh copy of windows. I saw a message saying the system was restarted because of windows updates. Now, none of my USB 2.0 ports work, neither the rear ports nor usb mobo headers work. The two usb 3.0 ports do work however. Those 2.0 ports were working fine previously. Never seen update do this before.
I have recently downloaded Windows 7 - 32 bit onto a new discrete (i.e. Physically separate) HDD. In the installation process it had severe problems with USB and PCIe drivers. That is they don't work and there were! marks in Device Manager. I was lucky in having access to an old PS2 kybd which allowed me some access to the new os. Luckily, since I was booting off of a Windows XP Home Edition on a separate HDD I managed to use its drivers which worked on the Windows 7 and allowed me to get my USB kyybd and mouse working again. It also automatically down loaded the other drivers for my devices like the USB dongle for wireless internet access.
This is a long preamble to my actual problem and the reason for this message. I have not had as much success when I tried the same exercise; this time with Windows 7 - 64 bit installation. The 64 bit was installed on a separate partition on the same physical drive as the 32 bit version. The 32 bit drivers from Win 7 - 32 bit and XP don't work. I thought the 32 bit drivers for such basic things as USB pointing devices would work in the 64 bit version; but clearly not. Also, clearly my installation disk is negligent in not loading the drivers in either installation. Where can I go to get these basic drivers.
I have tried Logitech with no luck as my kybd/mouse combo doesn't even show up on their site. I have tried going to Microsoft site to get generic 64 bit drivers but they are not being very kind in that regard. There is nothing to download. Clearly they don't want to give anything away free! My Logitech USB kybd/mouse combo is model Y-RK56A for the kybd and M-RR95 for the mouse. My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H and I have its CD but w/o mouse I can't get it to install on the Win 7-64 partition. I thought when it installed on my XP partition it would have installed both sets of drivers. Can I extract just the 64 bit USB drivers from there?
I restarted my computer to return to the login screen and found i have no control of my mouse or keyboard.I have control before Windows loads (in Bios Settings).I have enabled and disabled in every combination possible for the settings of the USB in Bios Settings.I can not system restore. I have no control in safe mode.Basically if it deals with windows, i have no control. Only before windows loads.
I am not going to tell my problem or trouble but rather to tell what I had done based on what I found out from other responses to "related issues" subjected above.I just thought that I must do this for the sake of others, brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ wanted to go back to the threads that his but I am not that fond of using the search fields and somehow my google search results on this lappy is quite differ from the one i got on the usb-troubled lappy that i used to log into sevenforums. i have read through just about 10 of the related result on sevenforums but not one of them is the one i found out earlier.anyways, what i did was: uninstalled all usb listings in device manager and then just shut down the lappy, unplug all cables including power cable and went out for a smoke. a few minutes later, came back and plugged the power cord and turned on the lappy. and somehow, windows auto-install everything and since the lappy is wirelessly connected to the internet like always, it also download and install everything.then i plug the main cause of the problem (microsoft 5-button intelligent mouse) and wait for the driver update wizard to complete; and now everything not only seems working fine, BUT actually working fine now.
