I have a users laptop that is failing to install SP1 with the above error code (80070002). WU is installing other updates so it appears to be a problem with SP1 rather than WU. Installing while logged in gives me the error code but if you hit shutdown then it just sits on the Configuring screen and the user has had to hard power off the laptop after a few hours.
View 9 Repliesi cant install the service pack 1 for my windows 7 and im using 64bit OS. every time i try this, it "downloads" up to the 29% and then gives me that error. i have tried everything the the info page tells me to do (which isnt much), i even downloaded some repair tool from microsoft downloads page to see if it helps but for some reason it doesnt even there reads in the description that it should fix the update error 80070002.

Yesterday my laptop had an update for me, so I attempted to install it. However, when it was done I was told that the installation failed. I restarted the computer and attempted to install it again, but it still failed. I looked into more detail on what I was installing, which was Microsoft .NET Framework 4 KB2468871, and went to the site it was based on and attempted to install it from there. When the setup came up however, I received this message:
"KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."
I'm not entirely sure what this means, and since this is apparently an important update for my laptop, I ask if there is a way I can solve the problem (also it's getting irritating to have my laptop keep on reminding me to update something that fails to update). My laptop has Norton 360.
I have tried updating them one-by-one but they still end up failing on me.

I have been using it successfully for the past 16 months now, via USB connection, installed on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows XP PC (I just unplug it and plug it in to whichever computer I need to print from).For some reason, it has decided not to recognize the drivers on my laptop.I have tried to uninstall and reinstall (no go).I also deleted every instance of MX870 from the registry that it would allow me to (some it wouldn't for some reason no access yes I am Administrator).Reinstall again still no go.The Windows 7 Updates were failing to update the Fax component which I thought was the problem, then all of a sudden it was successful still no printer. Now, it is unsuccessful again.I don't use the Fax component.The reinstall from the CD is successful, but when I plug in the printer, it fails."Device driver software was not successfully installed. I have no problem printing from the XP machine when it's plugged in there all is good there.I have been to the Canon website and downloaded the latest drivers, which installed perfectly, but again when I plug in the printer, it fails to install the fax driver and the printer won't work..I have also tried all of the various USB ports and ruled that out.I've also run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter also without success.Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I can't even print to PDF. My CutePDF program is also not working. Now I am quite a power user, and understand computer's quite well, but my laptop is just a year old (out of my warranty period), now how can this happen? I don't rough use my laptop at all, I didn't notice any hardware failure problems related to the HDD no clicking noises,I think its more to do with the software ? I ran a chkdsk and everything came out normal for my drive C: which is the WD drive.What do I do next?

I assume either my ISP/router is the issue or something else strange is going on. I tried changing my DNS server to the google ones as well as adding a server to my hosts file but it still returns the same error. Just curious what exactly the message means if it really is DNS related as hard-coding the IP into the internet time requester returns the same error.
I have a toshiba hard drive in my laptop that Windows 7 says "Windows detected a hard disk problem." I've backed up my personal files, and now I'm trying to figure out if it can be repaired or if I'm going to have to buy a new hard drive. I tried to run the Toshiba hard drive diagnostic, but the tool isn't allowing me to select my drive and can't run without being able to do that, even though it is my only hard drive. I've checked for viruses and malware, and it says there are none. I've defraged as well

however, every time I tell it to update then shut down it fails. I tried to troubleshoot it using the MS help box which was very little actual help, and then tried to initiate the update manually, however, when it comes to installing some windows 7 security and system updates and some IE updates, installation fails, resulting in error code 800736B3, whatever that means. All I've been able to turn up from googling is a command that un-registers windows, which then for some reason allows the updates to occur, following which I can use my original activation code (given to me by digital river with the student upgrade deal) to re-activate windows, although I am reluctant to try this!
I'm unable to do any windows updates due to error code 800B0100. I think a recent virus I had may have tampered with update files. I tried running the System Update Readiness Tool as suggested in Help and Support however the update installation on that failed too. Due to other problems I've been having recently I'm considering re-installing my OS at this point.

I'm running Symantec (even tried turning the firewall off without any success). I get an error code 80072F7C. When I run hijackthis, I get an error message that my system denied write access to the Hosts file. I proceed with the scan but am unable to produce a log file. I've included a screenshot from the windows update error as well as the error I get when trying to run hijack this.
View 1 Replies View RelatedA while back, after successfully downloading and installing some updates in the Windows Update, it prompted me to restart the computer to finish the update installation process. However, I continued to use the computer for quite some time before restarting it, and then when it tried to configure the updates on the start-up screen, it showed that it was not successful in doing so. In the past, I noticed that this would typically happen when I did not restart the computer immediately (or within a short time) after the updates finished and I got the prompt to restart. I would have to go to Windows Update and do it over again, and then upon immediate restart, it would always work properly. But this time, it did not, and I keep getting the 8000FFFF error message instead.
Also, now, every time I start the computer, it shows that it's "Preparing to configure Windows... Do not shut off computer" (presumably the updates that never got completely and correctly configured) in the start-up screen... gets to 35%..fails... shuts down (screen goes black)... restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, shuts down and restarts again... tries to configure again, fails again, and finally it apparently gives up and says "reverting changes" and finally goes to the desktop.I've looked at the answers in several threads at the answers.microsoft.com forum that were started by people with similar problems, and also tried several of the Microsoft "FixIt" files on the Microsoft site, but none of them worked. I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium.
seeing as it had infected my services.exe, part of the fix was to get a new copy of it, or something around those lines; this will come in to play later, I think. Anyway, its been a LONG time, my last update whenever I try running windows update, it runs for a bit and tries to receive the updates, but then stops and displays a message saying it failed to update, and gives me the error code of 80246008. I've looked this up, and I see that it possibly has something to do with the background intelligent transfer service.

1) I disabled the AVG antivirus program.
2) I turned off the microsoft firewall.

View 3 Replies View RelatedUntil a few weeks ago I was running the following computer and I use it just for gaming, I changed the Motherboard to an Asus P8Z68 and used a different i5 2500k-everything else remained the same. I erased the SSD and did a clean install of Win 7. Loaded the mother board drivers, video drivers and intel rapid storage. The system boots up and appears to be working great. If I try and use windows update I get the error code 0xc80003fa. I have googled the error code and done everything that has been suggested to fix the issue and still nothing. I have done another clean install and get exactly the same result.

Whenever I try to update my computer via Windows Update, it gives me the error code in the title of this thread. This happened *before* I even installed anti-virus, and after as well.
My internet connection is working flawlessly via cable, not wireless. I've tried about 5 or 6 times over a period of 6 or 7 hours.
Trying to install update. get error "WindowsUpdate_80070006".
I can't find anything on this. Any suggestions.
I noticed one of today's updates seems to be messing up my volume icon. After installing all updates, if I right click the volume icon nothing happens. I did some testing and it is an update, but I'm not sure which one it is.

Windows Update is failing for some reason (I was successfully able to install 2 updates, but all of the others fail)
I am getting an "unknown error" 80070308, and while there seems to be one other reference to this on a MSFT forum, the solutions there were basically restart the update service, which doesn't work, or rename some of the Windows files... which I did as well to no avail.
Does anyone know what this error is? Or had it before?
So I was trying to do some updates for Win. 7 and I got Framework 4. FW 4 is fine The updates, OK there were 119 i think of 'em or close. First, the other day I got error 8000FFFF when trying to update. then I got a program for Win. 7 (made by MS) to fix registries. This let me install FW 4 and some updates.Then I came back, didn't get a glance at the screen but my comp. turned off and reset. It was updating registries and then trying to config. win 7, that failed and it reverted to prebious settings, where I am now.
I can press CTRL+ALT+DEL to open Tskmngr and open programs (as I obviously did so.) but the Desktop is black, no icons, no taskbar (explorer.exe)and I might be missing something else. Also the, at the top left window says its personalizing my desktop as if first use. its not, and I've been w8ing for it for over 15 mins now...
