Yesterday my laptop had an update for me, so I attempted to install it. However, when it was done I was told that the installation failed. I restarted the computer and attempted to install it again, but it still failed. I looked into more detail on what I was installing, which was Microsoft .NET Framework 4 KB2468871, and went to the site it was based on and attempted to install it from there. When the setup came up however, I received this message:
"KB2468871v2 does not apply, or is blocked by another condition on your computer."
I'm not entirely sure what this means, and since this is apparently an important update for my laptop, I ask if there is a way I can solve the problem (also it's getting irritating to have my laptop keep on reminding me to update something that fails to update). My laptop has Norton 360.
for a few days (maybe a week) now I have had trouble with my Canon MX870 Printer/Fax. I have been using it successfully for the past 16 months now, via USB connection, installed on both my Windows 7 laptop and my Windows XP PC (I just unplug it and plug it in to whichever computer I need to print from).For some reason, it has decided not to recognize the drivers on my laptop.I have tried to uninstall and reinstall (no go).I also deleted every instance of MX870 from the registry that it would allow me to (some it wouldn't for some reason no access yes I am Administrator).Reinstall again still no go.The Windows 7 Updates were failing to update the Fax component which I thought was the problem, then all of a sudden it was successful still no printer. Now, it is unsuccessful again.I don't use the Fax component.The reinstall from the CD is successful, but when I plug in the printer, it fails."Device driver software was not successfully installed. Please consult with your device manufacturer for assistance getting this device installed. [code] Also, each time I unplug then plugin the USB cable, it attempts to reinstall the device drivers, the printer successful, the fax failing.It never did this before when I was happily printing away from both computers.
I have no problem printing from the XP machine when it's plugged in there all is good there.I have been to the Canon website and downloaded the latest drivers, which installed perfectly, but again when I plug in the printer, it fails to install the fax driver and the printer won't work..I have also tried all of the various USB ports and ruled that out.I've also run the Hardware and Devices Troubleshooter also without success.Also, I don't know if this is relevant or not, but I can't even print to PDF. My CutePDF program is also not working. I thought this may have been a workaround until I got the printer working again, but no luck.CutePDF will go thought its processes (it's now ticked as default as my Canon is now longer even listed), up till the point where you need to name the file you're creating (that box doesn't appear) all you get to do is print, choose CutePDF, then it disappears no file or if there is, I have no idea where it's gone or what it's called can't find a trace of it.I have not downloaded or installed any other programs (except Windows Updates) in some time that could have caused this. I am at a loss. This is a business computer and printer and is causing much angst.I am running Windows7 (64bit) on an Acer Aspire Laptop (only 16 months old) Firefox 13.0.1.Also running Microsoft Fixit for Printers doesn't even detect the printer and tells me to install one it already is As does the Troubleshooter Does not detect the printer.
I got this windows IE9 update 36.7 mb, but no matter what I do the update fails after restore point is created. It seems I got the same problem as here: Update fails with error code 9C48. - Microsoft Answers but it keeps failing. I tried disabling my Avast AV but no luck.

WU is installing other updates so it appears to be a problem with SP1 rather than WU. Installing while logged in gives me the error code but if you hit shutdown then it just sits on the Configuring screen and the user has had to hard power off the laptop after a few hours.

View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried reinstalling windows and formatting the hard drive. That works for about 3 days till windows installs its huge update. Then it starts freezing again. So then I do a system restore to a day before those updates happened, when the computer was fine and I turn off updates. It now becomes very slow for five minutes and then freezes. Now it won't even take me to the login screen. I am almost a 100% sure it isn't a virus since I always have malwarebytes Microsoft security essentials and avast on, and I really haven't gone to any shady sites in the last 3 days. I am running windows 7 64 bit

I also recently downloaded skype to talk to family overseas. Almost every time I am having a conversation, I suddenly lose the connection. However, I lose a connection at other times also. Skype doesn't have to be running for it to lose the connection. There seems to be no ryhme or reason for this. I ran a scan on my virus protection, but it reveals no threats. I am not so computer savvy either, only the basics.

If I go to device manager, and disable, then reable them one by one, they'll work fine until reboot and I'm back to errors on them. I also can uninstall them and have windows find them again, works fine, until I reboot again. I'm about to give up.They all say "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" until I reinstall. View 4 Replies View RelatedI have recently been having difficulties with connecting with my wireless connection. We have a in-home router that is connected to two computer's downstairs by cable. I however own a Acer, Windows 7 laptop that I mainly use upstairs and I get a Excellent signal strength.I have connected to my Home wireless connection before with no problem but recently the connection keeps coming up as ~Identifying... No Internet Access.Also when I have had connection to this network prior to this problem the connection is under Home. But when I try to connect to the same network it comes up as Public or just keeps Identifying. I have the connection set to Connect Automatically.Also the yellow triangle with the exclamation point almost always pops up immediately when I reboot my system or after I Disconnect and Connect the network again. I have tried Disabling and Enabling the network in the adapter settings and this does not work either. In the manage wireless networks tab, I have repeatedly deleted the connection and reentered the security password and again put it as automatically connect but it still comes up as Identifying. I have seen many people with this same problem and have tried many of the suggestions to no avail.It is rather bizarre because my connection will be in this Identifying state for a while and randomly connect properly and I have no idea what makes it go off and on so erratically. I just had it working again for a few days and it is again acting up.

I have all the passwords and the signal shows up, but it is continually "aquiring a network address". Does he have to change something in his settings to allow access once again?

Even though I have connection to the Internet and my wireless Network is active, the exclamation mark and the accompanying message remain. This morning I have been on the computer for three hours, for example, and I just made the screen shot. This condition has existed on a Toshiba laptop since "day one,' a number of months now.
The icon is of no value, if it doesn't change to "connected" when appropriate.
I had a Vista home premium. I updated it to windows 7 premium. It is 32 bit. A lot of my updates have failed. I get code 800 b0100. I have looked it up on the net. I was wondering if I should put my discs in for the windows upgrade and run it thru again over the top of what I have... Sometimes it goes to the POST and stops there, sometimes to the windows 7 screen and stops there. I managed to start in safe mode but the only thing odd in there was 'C: was ok, A: (floppy) ok, D: was renamed 'F' and E: was ok (I have a TSSTcorp DVD drive and a Lite-On lightscribe drive).

View 1 Replies View RelatedI've tried numerous times to try and update Windows Updates (trying to update on a new computer: Lenovo Thinkpad T530) but every time I shut it off, it says it's updating and it looks like it's doing fine but when I turn it says it's configuring Windows updates and it always gets stuck at the 15% mark and then says Windows updates failed, reverting changes. The error is: Error code 80071A9 I've tried Microsofts Fixits and the readiness update and all that stuff but it doesn't help at all.It's really bugging me now because this is the second or third time that my computer went to a black screen saying that it needs to check the disk (I can't remember the exact wording right now). It says the disk is fine every time but it still worries me to have this for the second/third time.
View 3 Replies View RelatedIt is a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150. When powering it up I get the Toshiba start up screen and I can hear the fan working. It seems to proceed normally then a screen comes up that says windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause. I am not aware of any changes to either one. I get two choices. Launch start up repair(recommended) and start windows normally. With either choice it attempts to start up but then the screen stays black. I can move the cursor around normally but that is as far as it goes. I can get to the bios using f2. The version is 2.30 which appears to be the latest. I can also get to the advanced options. I have tried the repair your computer, safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode with command prompt but it always ends up with the black screen. I am also able to get the the boot menu. They don't have a boot disk or recovery disk for me to use. I have tried using another monitor with the same results. I have also tried unplugging the computer, removing the battery and pressing the start button for both 30 and 60 seconds with no success. I have done a little research and it sound like he may have the zero access root kit.

Startup repair does not fix it, I have tried several system restore points none of which work (error 0X8000ffff), and the last known configuration is not working either. I can get into the safe mode menu but when I try to go into safe mode I get the Windows failed to start.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought a copy of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version the other day. I have tried to install it twice now, with failed attempts both times. The first time I tried to install it, the installation failed about halfway thru giving me a message saying that the installation stopped due to corrupt or missing data. I then proceeded to boot from the windows disk again and deleted/formatted that failed partition. I tried the installation over again and let it run thru the night. Now what is happening is my computer won't boot up. All that happens is it gets stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. It stays on that screen for about 5 mins then the computer automatically restarts itself. This cycle then repeats.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI work at staples, and 3 days ago a costumer arrived with a toshiba laptop, it was falinf to boot in to normal mode, so I started it in safe mode to do a backup, but then an other technician reboot the machine, now it does not boot even in safe mode, it gets stuck loading a .sys file.I Tried to get access to command prompt with a windows 7 DVD but for some reason the hard drive is not listed, so i have no access to it, I can't even re install windows b/c of that, but still the fact that even it start loading tells me that the machine do have access to it.I extract the hard drive and tried to connect it to an other computer running XP, through a IDE-USB 2.0 adaptapter, the leds turn on indicating that the hard drive is working but the computer doesn't recognize it.
