I just purchased a dv7-1261wm and installed Windows 7. But in Device Manager, it shows 5 drivers that didn't install. There are 4 listed as "Base System Device" and 1 as "Unknown Device". I've installed all the drivers from HP's site, but that didn't help.
The main issue though is the CD/DVD/Blu-Ray Rom drive doesn't detect in any burning programs. It shows as installed fine, but burning programs can't access it.

I have a WDC USB floppy drive. One day day ago when i connected my floppy to PC it worked. When i connected it to other computer it not worked and then when i connected it to my PC again it's not working. When i connect floppy it says nothing. I tried to update disk drivers with Computer Management and it says that my drivers are up to date. I tried to uninstall drivers and than install it again and that's not working. BIOS and Computer Management can see the floppy drive, but Win Explorer can't see floppy. What should i do to access my floppy and my files?

It worked perfectly yesterday, but when I tried to author a blank DVD with DVDFlick today, it just stopped working. I have authored many, many DVDs with DVDFlick before, so I doubt that caused the problem.
I have tried to get it to read DVDs, CDs and miniCDs, but it refuses to recognize any of them. It won't even recognize the disc at boot-time. I've gone through every support website I could find. I've downloaded several Microsoft troubleshooting utilities, and they all say something to the effect of "The disc in drive D: is not detected, or is not supported".
My computer is almost new; only about six months old, so I sure hope the drive hasn't failed on me already.

I have tried to use this IOMAX USB 2.0 to SATA/IDE Adapter Kit with Power: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics to connect an old 250 gb Samsung sata hard drive to my PC.Windows won't recognise it as a hard drive/partition - the USB adapter device is recognised, and via Devices & Printers, it shows the drive, but not as a USB External Drive, (see image) so I cannot access it.

On my old secondary computer my setup was
Motherboard: Chaintech VNF2-350
Master 0: HDS722516VLAT80 with Windows installation
Slave 0: WD800BB-53CCB0
But then I started getting Machine Check Exceptions and my motherboard ultimately perished. So I replaced that with a Foxconn K8S755A-6ELRS. But this new motherboard won't detect the hard drive.
It will hang at the part that says "Detecting IDE drives", sometimes it will give up and display "0" where the drive is supposed to be, other times it will hang until you unplug the cable.
If it's on the same channel as the Hitachi drive with XP on it, the BIOS recognizes the other drive, but fails to boot from it. If they are on different channels, it boots the XP drive but will see no hint of the drive on the other channel., even in Disk Management or Device Manager.
I also tried connecting it to my other computer's Intel DP35DP mobo, and it was able to detect/read/write and all that, though it does have a few bad sectors.

It won't detect a specific USB which has some important documents on it. I've tried other USB pen drives and they work fine. With this particular USB however, whenever I insert it, the light flashes and the computer makes the usual noise when a USB is inserted in, but it does not show up on my computer at all. I've tried on someone else's windows 7 computer and it doesn't work either so I'm assuming there is something wrong with the pendrive. However when I go to disk management there IS a USB shown present

I purchased am HP Mini 110 netbook three weeks ago to use in school while I leave my heavier and bigger laptop at home. It came with Windows 7 Starter, but I took the (bad) decision of installing an illegitimate copy of Windows 7 Home Premium because I found starter somewhat clunky.
I downloaded the ISO from a torrent and created a bootable USB. I just run the installer from Windows itself and the installation took about 45 minutes. After that I installed the drivers and everything went fine for a week. I also used the ''activator' that came with the torrent.
This Friday, as I resumed from sleep, the system froze as I put my password for a few seconds and soon after I got a BSOD and the computer shut off. As it rebooted I got a message saying that no OS is installed and that no HD is detected. I attempted to run some diagnostic tests through the BIOS but it tells me that not HD is detected. I even attempted to install Ubuntu and it doesn't detect a drive either.
I already talked to HP costumer service and they'll soon come to pick up the netbook to get it serviced, but meanwhile, I sent it to a technician to find out what is wrong with it. The news I got from him were that the HD was completely dead.
Previously, I had unplugged the HD to make sure the ribbon was not lose and plugged it again. Now, I am in this dilemma: Would my HP warranty void if they find out I installed a pirated OS which arguably caused the hardware to fail?

Here's my hard drive: Seagate Constellation ES ST3500514NS
I haven't been able to get Windows 7 installation to detect this drive for about two months now. I'm running on a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H mobo, revision 2.1.
I recently found a list of drivers for my motherboard on Gigabyte. I also found some downloads for my hard drive.
Oh, and I can use this drive if I'm running Windows 7 on a different hard drive, but I just can't install Windows 7 on it.

I recently embarked on the journey of building my first custom PC. Everything was going well, until I hit a speed bump of installing Windows 7 64 bit. So like usual I boot from the CD drive, and stick Windows 7 in. When it gets to the point where I'm going to install, it is unable to find my SATA drive to install Windows 7 on.
It then asks me to "locate drivers." So it gives me an option to browse, and when it does so I put in the disk that came with my mobo, but it's unable to find any drivers. I tried downloading drivers from my motherboard's web site, sticking them on an external HD, and locating them from there, but that still didn't work.
I checked in my BIOS, and my SATA type is under Native IDE. I tried switching it to AHCI, and my HD was no longer detected in the BIOS, switched back to Native IDE and it found it again. Also, Onchip IDE Channel is set to Disabled, and Onchip SATA Control is set to Enabled, does this matter any?
I was wondering, though, is it possible that if I set the SATA type to AHCI, move the SATA cables into ports so that the drive is recognized by my BIOS, use the AHCI drivers I downloaded, Windows 7 will detect it?

I have a 8 GB Transcend flash drive. I works properly on other systems (at least one system), but when I plug it in my Laptop, it is not even detected. Other USB devices work perfectly with my laptop, the only problem is with my Flash drive AND my laptop. I have tried to re install USB Hubs etc. of the laptop, but it did not help.

i've been having some really weird freezes, sometimes its just the windows but multimedia keyboard keys / mouse still work, other times it completely freezes (cant even move the mouse.).Usually if i wait a little bit the computer goes back to normal by itself, other times i get BSOD.Im pretty sure its hardware related because i've tried formatting and got a bsod right after installing windows, i suspect the hard drive because when the computer freezes all HDD activity stops, when the computer manages to recover the hard drive activity comes back exactly at the same time the system unfreezes, sometimes if i run chkdsk there are lots and lots of errors, windows fixes them but they come back sooner or later, also, sometimes the computer doesn't detect the hard drive after a BSOD, turning the computer off and then on always "fixes" that tho.
The only reason im not 100% sure its the HDD its because all HDD utilities i've tried (incluiding western digital diagnostics software) say the disk is fine, can SMART be wrong I've also ran memtest and no errors (just one pass tho)Things seem to have gotten worse when i changed the graphic card, however i remember getting these freezes with the old one, just not as serious, prolly just a coincidence.I remember getting 3 kinds of BSOD errors: driver_power_state_failure, pagefault_in_nonpaged_area and kernel_data_inpage_error.A week ago i turned my pc on and windows was broken, startup repair thing would show up and try to repair but failed no matter how many times i tried, this never happened to me before so it must be related.

I have a strange problem with my Acer Aspire 4738 notebook running Windows 7 Basic Premium 64-bit. In short, when I click Devices and Printers, my brand new Lexar flash drive (windows 7 compatible) seems to be properly connected to its USB port, its driver installed, and everything looks OK. But when I click Computer, the flash drive does not show up.
I have already tried these two options, but neither works.
First option, Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management. When I try to change the letter drive of the flash drive, an error message pops up: The operation failed to complete because the Disk Management console view is not up-to-date. Refresh the view by using the refresh task. If the problem persists close the Disk Management console, then restart Disk Management or restart the computer." (I have done that but it doesn't help) And when I try to format the flash drive (i thought it might help), another error message pops up: An unexpected error has occurred. Check the System Event Log for more information on the error."
Second option, Computer -> Manage -> Disk Drives. I uninstalled the flash drive, removed the flash drive physically from the laptop, and plugged it in again in an USB port. My computer detects the flash drive, installs its driver, but then again when I go to Computer, the flash drive doesnt show up.
